Thank you Kris!! Such a good word. I wanted to offer that the reason people stay in grief and sorrow and victimhood is because no one ever let them know they had a right to be sad. Something bad happened when they were little and they had to "get over it" and move on without processing their grief. They were taught from a young age that their feelings don't matter and that if they are feeling bad, there is something wrong with them that they can't just get up and move on quickly. It causes them to hang on to pain because it matters to them, even if no one else cares.
We in the church need to allow people to grieve and let them know what they are suffering is painful and we are sorry they had to go through that. They had no one there to comfort them. We need to validate their pain so they can release it to God and receive comfort and healing.
