Nice to see Mario Land 2. It's easily top 3 of 2D Marios. Really underrated.
The collision detection may not be great, but it terms of creativity it can't be topped. All the worlds are so interesting and their themes haven't been repeated endlessly like the ones from Mario 3.
I just was playing it on my gameboy pocket before seeing this show up in my youtube feed. Missed the live run due to work/sleep. Easily one of my favorite gameboy games from my childhood. One of the few carts I managed to keep a hold of through the years
I'd take janky platforming with half the creativity of SML2 over another bland NSMB outing any day of the week. It's totally playable. A bit off, but it's a gameboy game. A remake would be pretty sweet.

Dude beatboxing and singing had me fucking dying and grooving. I only wish he came up with more lyrics for the song, but still, that was hilarious. Especially with the runner just deadpanning the whole thing, but also throwing in a furtive groove here and there.
I still revisit this video every year or so just to hear the star song again.

Holy shit, my childhood. Only console I owned in the 90's was Gameboy, this is one of the few games I ever played through. Haven't seen it in some 15+ years. Wow. Cool thing to dig up and speedrun!!! Loved the space levels, floaty fun.

Funny story about my history with this game. My grandfather worked as a bus driver after Vietnam and he found the Gameboy version of SML2 lying in a New Mexico intersection. Still works to this day, that cartridge has outlived my actual Gameboy.

Did anybody else oddly feel a little betrayed when Slash didn't finish Macro Land before Turtle Land and gain all of the golden coins in clockwise order like they expected halfway through?
Sorry! Our route for the speedrun completes Turtle Zone before Mario Zone because we want the carrot to make Turtle Zone 1 trivial.

Ive never seen a SML2 speedrun before. That 100 kills for a star at the end really flashed me. I didnt expect that, though now I gotta say it makes a lot of sense. I love SML2, and those balls at the end always get me. Its so cool to see them get powned like that :D

Got a 35-minute clear time when I tried this the casual way, just by going as fast as I could with my knowledge of the game, having played it since my childhood. I died a lot and went super safe with power ups though.
At this point, I think I should probably try actually speedrunning. XD

This was so fun and nostalgic for me! I had no idea there were so many levels. I completely forgot i played this game until i heard the music for the early levels. Think my game boy's battery didn't last long enough for a full play through. Or maybe i was just bad at the game, lol😂

I once tried to speedrun this game, the only level in which I was faster was the starting level in which I got 345, but I only managed to do it once, the rest was 344 and 343. It took me so fucking long to "master" that first level, but I went through it as smooth as butter.
This game was my childhood.
