    I always thought that to paint a smooth portrait I’m gonna need oils and I really don’t like how toxic the materials are. And after seeing what you achieved with simply acrylic paint, you’ve really inspired me.

      Using Gamsol and Galkyd are wayyyy safer! Of course u should still be in a ventilated area and try not to touch them. But it’s made to be safer and a classroom standard!

      you can get additive mediums to increase the working time of acrylics, if you're looking for more of an "oil" wet on wet style

      Actually the real painting does not need some detailed drawing. Its just an amateurish method. For kids. Drawing is drawing and painting is painting. Drawing with colors is still drawing, not painting.

    Good right to the point, I loved drawing when I was young and some scenic painting but kinda lost interest when I came to California in 1984 but now I look for anyone with a new method or just a tip to help enhance the paintings that I have been doing for the last couple of years so I'll look at work in the future. Thanks and keep up the good work

    • @Therealmrmeow
      @Therealmrmeow 4 года назад +4

      Color is probably the least important factor, imho, what you want to concentrate on is value, value, VALUE. Try doing a portrait with a random palette, make the colors fun and random but concentrate on actual values. You'll be surprised. Once you practice this and you can identify values more easily color choice also becomes easier. A color checker may also be helpful. It is a cheap easy tool (you can make) used to isolate colors of the things you are seeing. Colors in tandem are illusions that make painting so difficult. Hope this helps. p.s. I found mobile apps like "I Love Hue" were great for training the eye to distinguish colors..also super fun and challenging.

    • @the_mighty_bearcat
      @the_mighty_bearcat 3 года назад

      I agree with Mr. Meow. One painting technique, called grisaille, paints the figure in monochrome: black and white, blue and white, green and white, or brown and white, in three to five tonal values. Once that is dry, you can apply more transparent layers of color over the underpainting to complete the figure.

    Lovely subject choice. Lots of folks are self-taught, nothin wrong with that. You can, however, look into formal methods on your own and they are super valuable as they were used by Old Masters for centuries--I have taught 5 methods in many classes and on my channel. The grid, or Albertian Veil, invented by Leon Bautista Alberti, is one of them. Like a calculator or ruler, a perspective grid is only accurate if you use it right--if your squares are even on both ref and drawing, it's a very useful tool, especially for beginning students, mural artists to scale up, and for perspective alterations. My preferences are for Freehand myself, as to me the grid is just tedious, so I get that not everyone will draw the same way but useful to understand properly.
