I am a 87 year old BRIT. Havelistened to this great musician since I was a small dance band trumpet player back in the late 1940s /50s. Was taught by a good cornet player in the Salvation Army in which I w as in those days a Young Soldier. I have a great collection of C DS of this greatest trumpet player in the world that ever was. Please Chuck, keep bringing these great golden oldies on your channel GREAT STUFF

My grandpa never missed Lawrence Welk and never stopped praising Harry James. I never really heard much of his material, just a few 40s recordings. So all I can say is.........this is some first rate stuff. Harry is well-nigh flawless as a trumpet artist. Big band is an acquired taste but I'm enjoying this.

This is fantastic. I wish Apple Music had more Harry James albums like this.

When I was in high school in the late 1960s, I used to go see the Harry James Band in Columbia, SC at the Shriners Hall. It was fantastic!

I lived in Columbia S.C for a few years. I played trumpet in the Jimmy Farr Orchestra.

Harry's naval recordings with Hefti from the late 40s are brill, so nice to hear this later collaboration. Thanks Chuck!

Such good playing and good arrangements. The solos are fantastic. Hard to believe it's from 1961 - is that really true? It sounds like a convocation of some of the best studio players around. And all the pieces/songs/numbers are just superb.

Unlike many bands who used top session musicians for recordings, Harry had faith in his own men and that was the road band, normally playing at the Hollywood Paladium, Vegas or around the world. Real loyalty and faith in your own team!

I'm wondering: Is the Harry James Band here playing authentic Neal Hefti arrangements? Or are they someone else's arrangements of Neal Hefti songs? I wish I knew.
