Still a beautiful car. Ian Callum, from Dumfries in Scotland, was asked to design it when he was working at TWR. Later became head of design at Aston. His Vanquish is still one of the most stunning designs. The straight six engine is a Jaguar block that Jaguar ended up not using themselves. Other than that you couldn't go to a Jaguar dealer to have it serviced. Apparently the sub-frame for the rear is from the replacement XJS but nothing else. Nothing really was handed over from Jaguar. Since I love old Jags, I can certainly approve of this purchase. I have that 3.2 litre AJ16 engine in my 96 XJ6. These engines never go wrong with regular maintenance. The XJR6 (the best Jag XJ ever) actually had the 4.0 version of this engine with a Eton supercharger. What I never understood was why Aston Martin decided to take the 3.2 litre as the basis for their modifications when the characteristics of the 4.0 are superior, not to mention that it it would have been even more powerful with Aston Martin's fettling over it. Both the 3.2 and 4.0 were introduced at the same time so there was literally no reason not to use it in the DB7. Also the interior of the DB7 is a disaster. The XK8 has one of the most beautiful interiors I have ever seen in a car. XK8s are relatively cheap, look better, are easier to maintain and buy bits for so they kind of put the DB7 to shame apart from the heritage of the AM brand and the fact that only the DB7 came with a manual transmission.

@@GurpreetHira Yeah, the handling on the R1 XJR is really good, you can really lean on it in corners (at least in XJ terms). The brakes are really fierce as well. More than enough to stop the car. I just find the AJ16 engine more appealing in many ways. The 4.0 straight six is a masterpiece for Jag in my opinion, and with the supercharger added to, it is just lovely old school muscle. The XJR6 also has the really robust GM transmission and there is far less need to worry about timing chain issues with the straight six also. That and also there are relatively few electrical issues when compared to the X308. Finally I just love the big red letters on the engine saying XJR6 SUPERCHARGED! I have real soft spot for the XJR6 as you might tell.

Thank God, my favorite Hoovie stuff is back. Cars theoretically I can afford. Granted I like all of Hoovies videos (except for the painful click-bait "buried" series), these just happen to be my favorite. I was born in 81, so my car fascination hit a peak in 1997. So cars from that era hit a soft spot for me.
Watching this video reminded me of my father... last fall because my tires on my 2006 state police special (documented ) got stuck in the yard... I had parked it because the tires was so bad in the fall I parked it for safety... when the snow melted and my father got a itch to drive that factory hot rod.. he got it stuck in only 1 inch deep of tire rut... cross from the weather checked balding tires and the gobs of tork and HP from the on de-tuned 5.7 Hemi.. we could not get it out.. even with jacks, gravel and plywood.. we had to wait till late spring.. and the charger was free to play ( we could not tow it out as there was no way to hook up the car with out hurting it!!!).. needless to say it now has a permanent spot on the drive way and new tires... I still chuckle about it LOL!!!
That'll be another one of those things that won't work... in mud going uphill. :) If you've managed to polish yourself into a frozen divot when it's actually freezy, it might. If you have finesse and an lsd.
I don't know if anyone mentioned, but if you put in second gear, or even third to load the engine and wheel, and prevent them from spinning, that is actually works better, then "digging" in by spinning the tires.
Tavarish already had one and sold it (think it was Doug's). You'll have to find another sucker to buy this one when you give up on it, or it blows up. Or will you just bury it?
@@onometre, but you can still drive it wearing a HANS device, just like F1 drivers do. BTW, if those are its original seats (which they are) that means they already provide enough protection, otherwise, the car wouldn't have passed any crash test back in the 1990s.

@@Biggles wowzers! R1 package, i have yet to see one in person! How did you find that? Loll ive seen about 3 XJRs since ive had mine (4 or so years) but a ton of xj8 loll. You prefer a xj6 due to simplicity or ?
The moral of the story is that if you're going to own a 1998 Aston Martin, you'll also need to own a Toyota Land Cruiser.
With a winch.
Next video im bankrupt
I found the cheapest loan shark in the USA.
Kudos to this guy for stopping and helping out!
I love living in the Midwest. It lets me know when Hoovie films his videos based on the weather. For instance: this one is from last Friday.
In Clarksons voice "Jaaaaaag"
Lol
Who?
Bit of an issue with the wallet....would you mind awfully settling this while I go warm up the jaaaag?
Heard that too.
Mommaaaa just killed my car... took it out into the fielllld ... now its stuck and im a heeelllll... mommaaaa
Bravo!
I just died reading this... carry on carry on!
You never fail to out do your self do you mr Hoover
Midway through every review that you do like this... I find myself on Autotrader contemplating how I can justify this purchase to my wife.... keep up the good work! One day I'll pull the trigger
As soon as you said the doorhandles were from a miata I screamed “KNEW IT”
You’re educating me hoovie, I can tell different doorhandles apart now.
Next video “I finally learned how to NOT spin the wheels when stuck”
*Getting crazy Gran Turismo nostalgia from this video..*
That interior is so clean. Nice
Was, before getting it stuck lol.
Great video. What might have helped is to as to guy to sit in the trunk (or load something heavy in it). Also empty air out of the tires (to have more surface), then do the floormat thing. By the way what a hero for helping in his shorts : ) !
You are BY FAR my favorite RUclipsr, Hoovie!
9:07 I love this moment... It would be great at the end of a trailer for the channel. Very nice.
Funny how I purchased mine some weeks ago... But that's a Vantage. At 12000$, I suppose it was the cheapest DB7 vantage in Europe...
that really sounds like a steal, wishing you all the best :)
Same👌
Hello ! It's funny to find you there because I immediately thought of you when I saw the vid :)
Kind of looks like a Ford Probe.
Which is just an MX6
Ford probe rear lights perhaps?
What because of the 4 wheels and 2 doors?
Rick Hutton SHUT UP JUST SHUT UP!
I didn't realize the Ford Probe looked that good.
3:57 in and he is already having to jump start the car. Only the FINEST British engineering! 🤣
Nice! You just bought my friends certain white car from NJ. Can’t wait to see it on the channel!
When driving the DB7 always have the Lexus stand-by as a support vehicle.. lol
And his Lexus/toyota has got a headlight out and he gets stuck, classic Hoovie!
A great example of why you need winter tires if it snows where you live. No substitutes whatsoever.
I can't believe anyone would do donuts in a muddy field in the winter with street tires in an Aston Martin. Defies imagination.
I'd consider it.
@@johnulrich5572 I'm guessing he was thinking visuals and forgetting snow can accumulate on mud just as well as frozen ground.
Yes! I was watching this thinking he should use his lx470 and he did!!!!!!!
Your lexus is better than Doug's defender
lol ol Not ass cool tho
That cloaking device is going to be hard to fix when it uh.. eventually breaks
Next video “I Bought the Cheapest Spy Gadgets in the USA”
No his next video will be him burying it because it developed a fault..
Like those Mazda 323 taillights
Would it be a Hoovie episode to not have problems!? LOL Funny as always.
When you want to be James Bond so bad but your on a budget.
Add a new floor mat to the list of things you need to get sorted on this car...
That'll be another one of those things that won't work... in mud going uphill. :) If you've managed to polish yourself into a frozen divot when it's actually freezy, it might. If you have finesse and an lsd.
You have a bad transmission mount!
I don't know if anyone mentioned, but if you put in second gear, or even third to load the engine and wheel, and prevent them from spinning, that is actually works better, then "digging" in by spinning the tires.
The best part of this video for me was the fact that you played a clip of James Bond choking on food after saying "Bond, Tyler Bond."
Tavarish already had one and sold it (think it was Doug's). You'll have to find another sucker to buy this one when you give up on it, or it blows up. Or will you just bury it?
Different car (this one's db7, doug's v8 vantage)
Why not buy the second cheapest might have less issues
Then it wouldn't be the Cheapest that's the whole point, I agree tho
You're new, aren't you
Blasphemy!
Lol... I see a new channel idea forming.
It’s like ordering the second cheapest wine at a restaurant, always a good move
1998 car does not have a head support... whiplash waiting to happen :(
Don't have a crash then?
I hope you realise how ignorant this reply is, even if it is a joke.
Thought the exact same mate. Your head would just fold over in a rear end crash. Obviously can’t buy safety
@@OPHYCLIDE you can be the best driver in the world but you still can't control what other people do
@@onometre, but you can still drive it wearing a HANS device, just like F1 drivers do. BTW, if those are its original seats (which they are) that means they already provide enough protection, otherwise, the car wouldn't have passed any crash test back in the 1990s.
A very nice car congrats
One recommendation though for your own safety, when using a winch put a jacket or something you can throw over the rope
Because if the rope breaks or dislodges under tension it will fly or whip and if you happen to be in it ways um well it could really hurt or worse
There is nothing more fun than plowing the fields in an Aston Martin in the snow.!! LOL
oh sir, How come you didn't hook the tow chain around the windshield frame again sir?
Tyler you should flip the script and by the most expensive ... in the country
The most expensive Buick le Sabre
The most expensive 1987 Nissan Sentra in the USA lol
You need new tires. Those ones are so worn they are about to be on the metal.
I love how the first angle of the car shown also shows oil puked all over the ground.😂
He’s totally done with you haha. And he left the floormat! Sounds like another day in car paradise. Keep up the good work Hoovie!
