I had a bad drinking problem when I was younger. I really do believe that George and his music inspired me to believe I could rise above it and beat it too. Sometimes, when things are desperate, it's good to have someone like George around to sing to you and tell you, through his music, that everything is going to be OK. And you know what? He was right.
+Ima SuperPerson - Im a southerner 100% and when you had your heart broke, you going through lifes hard struggles, or just want to drink your pain away, only George Jones music will do. If someone says their listening to George Jones you know its got to be serious. I feel bad for a lot of our older country musicians because a lot had to take stimulants to make the show, downers to sleep, drinking to feel good, and some of our greatest legends all suffered form this, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr & Jr, Merle Haggard. Their schedules were demanding so they did what they had to do. I don't fault any of them for it.
Nancy , our deepest condolences on the passing of George he was the greatest and always will be hes number one in our books, his fans in Ontario Canada
The possum may be gone but never will be replaced or forgotten. Long live George "Possum" Jones music. He was a great guy to know. I helped hang Christmas Lights at his place few years back and he was the nicest Legend I have ever been around. Keep him going Nancy.
God bless George Jones. He had more substance and staying power in his little pinky then all the airbrushed temporary rock boys coming out of Nashville today. He didn't always need a hit to tour. He never gave up. Same with Haggard, Nelson, Jennings, Stonewall Jackson and all the other REAL country singers. He was and always will be the King Voice Of Country. Thank you Geaorge Jones. You are truly a legend. We love you Nancy. He will NEVER be forgotten.
We all loved George, and not just because of his great voice. I think it is because of his honesty over the years when he was at his lowest and never avoiding talking about his problems and because of his strength in getting himself back again. Nancy certainly played a massive roll but so many who get addicted never make it back , the individual has to want to get back themselves, that takes strength of character and a colossal determination . That earns respect as well as loving his music.
George should have been named the KING of country music. Who else started singing for money on the streets of Belmont Texas at age 10 or 11 and sang till the final curtain called at age 81. 70 plus years
Nancy you are such a blessing to George ! I saw George finally for the first time "live" here in Toronto on April 8th 2008, and he was INCREDIBLE. At that time he was 76 years young, and it truly was a magical evening. I then saw you selling G.J. memorabilia, and I bought a concert CD, but I will always regret not speaking with you Nancy. YOU, without any doubt surely DID save George's life. Just concentrate on all the great memories. All my best.
There's one thing for sure Nancy Jones did stand by her man through thick and thin for better and For Worse just like she promised today she married him may God bless her and give her peace
George Jones is my most favorite country artist of all time about 90% of my playlists are of George. His music is some of the absolute best of all country. I still miss George.
He was the Greatest.I got to see him I Greensboro N.C. at concert.Week before he pass I bought another cd of his.Hurts so bad I was a little boy frist time I ever heard him sing.Such a lucky man to have such a lovely wife and family.
aww man,,i can only imagine the deep sadness in the heart of Nancy Jones....as much as we all loved George,,nobody loved him like she did...God Bless you Nancy
We loved him as a brother in the house.....his music will forever be played in our home. Coming from a family of 15 children mostly all players and singers. 3 of my siblings and our parents are in heaven with George now, singing to all the angels.
What a brave man and what a precious couple. God surely put them together to bless each other. It sounds like he learned a lot about life in his later years. I'm so happy to know that. They were so blessed to have those many years together. I thank God!
i first saw George in lynchburg, va. 1968. George and Loretta Lynn at E.C. Glass High School. George was in fabulous voice. He was also very tipsy and could not complete the show. Made no difference I still thought he was the greatest then and I still do now ! Sing on George !!!
I luv the ol possum ....i my self am from Saratoga TX.... He started in old Baptis church with his mom ....singing gospel ..left this world doing the same ...great man, singer, song righter, ....long live no show jones

Nancy, you are obviously a very strong lady, and although you say many kind, loving, and inspiring things about one of my all time heroes and inspirations in music . .and life .. 'king' George , I know that we are only the products of the people we associate with .. and I see from hearing you speak .. why George would love you . .and also where a lot of his inspiration came from as well. Bless ya darlin for sharing him . .with all of us all these years :-)
My mother worked at a Quality Inn in Corbin, Ky as a waitress in the restaurant. George and Nancy Jones walks in and the other waitresses were star struck. lol My mom.. the shyest person you would have ever known said...well I'll wait on them. I think they were fairly newly weds. He signed two placemats for my grandmother and great-grandmother... personalized :) They treasured them. Dad's favorite of all time... still is :)
So glad he said you don't have to hang around with the people you may not be comfortable with even if you dont hold a grudge, you dont have to hang out with them. Such a powerful statement.
Seriously people grow up! This is not the time to be bashing poor Nancy or any one else in the family. They have been through enough. Not one of you knows the facts about what's going on within George's family so stop talking about it like you do. You should all be thanking Nancy without her George would've been gone a long time ago. Nancy you were his angel and he said that many times. We will always love the possum and you. Thanks for letting the fans be part of the celebration of his life
Thanks Nancy for that interview i Beleive anybody who listened to him sing developsd a love for George jones he was a special person touched a lot of lives God take care of him
George has touched the life's of many, but, Nancy is the most caring Loving person i have met, and i know it is lonely, i have been there, just know you are as Loved as George was. i know i Love you both, and the little pep talks you gave my son time and time again meant the world to me and as it did to Micheal. So Sorry, and to see you look so sad, just more then i can stand. Love you Nancy, Thanks Micheal and Edwin Kean your friends in Kentucky.
NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE THE POSSUM, [ NOBODY].... R.I.P. MR. JONES... THE HEAVENS ARE FULL OF STARS, AND THE POSSUM IS THE BIGGEST ONE OF THEM ALL......
Not enough thanks can be given to you Nancy for the love you gave George, without your love for him,we wouldn't have had him this long,My prays are with you and the familyThere was no greater singer than George Jones,Jerald W. Eastwood
I know, right! I got Georgette's book for Easter, & just started reading it. It broke my heart reading how excited & proud he was when she was born knowing how Nancy tore them (and probably his boys) apart in the end. I never liked Garth either, to me he symbolizes the beginning of what Nashville is today. HE knew better, but wanted on camera. I heard Nancy say he called & wanted to sit with her, but was too broke up to sing.FYI nobody wanted you to sing, but NO singer loved him more than AJ imo
Who knows but it's my belief that God joined Nancy and George Jones together and the woman must have loved him dearly but that's their business and may God bless Nancy my heart goes out for her and his kids George Jones was the king of country music your missed by the world George
Dearest Nancy, always know that George loves you and is looking out for you from his Heavenly home. Rest in Peace, Possum! We love and miss you so much.

What Nancy did for George by sticking by him and helping him beat his substance abuse problems cannot be overestimated. She gave him years he wouldn't have had thanks to an unyielding yet forgiving kind of love on her part. Does anyone remember a great song that the late Wynn Stewart recorded called "Above and Beyond (The Call Of Love)"? That song's title pretty much describes Nancy.
You are probably right, or she could have cried so much that there were just no more tears left, we are all human and we all express ourselves differently in different situations, God bless her.
Nancy was not George jones wife he was still married to Linda Montgomery. Linda is George Jones widow. And did he tell Nancy to sell his name. She could have gave the rights to his name and museum to his daughter Georgette and his two sons
Hes with Tammy and he probably knew and was ready to see tammy and Heaven.. Nothing wrong with Nancy but truth be told he tried till Tammy's death to be with her again .. And that's his love .. and I'm sure he loved Nancy but Tammy was his true love ..

True love never dies it just get's stronger even in death the tides that bind are attached to a heart and soul that lives on in the people you leave behind to carry on with the show.

Meemamadison Smith ya I'm commenting a year later (ha ha). But that's exactly what I thought. I was surprised what she says here from what she said before in different interview.
i'm just wondering how come I didn't see georgette and his other children on the funeral .I have read here that they sitting on the 6th row how could nancy do that, come on they were his family too....RIP GEORGE
What on earth makes you think that the falling out with his children & seat placement had anything whatsoever to do with Nancy? Maybe they chose to sit away from the front, so as not to be seen on camera. George & his sons had had a bad relationship at least as far back as 1992. They tried to sue him in 1995, claiming he owed them money. And for the record, George's daughter Susan was at the funeral, in the front row and was also present at the graveside service, as were Georgette's sons.
I agree, he had never had a very close relationship with his children except for Susan and that came later in his life, I really think it was his character to blame, not Nancy manipulating him to feud with his children. The only thing I would do differently if I were Nancy is try to have a better relationship with George's children now, but who knows what really happened...
I was brought up in an abusive home, with music. George Jones gave me a big hug with his music. Love him to this day. I feel big grand parent hugs.
AWESOME MAN GEORGE JONES. THE POSSUM.

Even Merle Haggard said it: best country singer of all time.

Love this story
In another interview she said he didn't talk in those last days and hours.... Now she says he talked all the last six hours before he died. I wonder which it true.
Listen to both interviews again, she actually said he talked UP TO the last six hours, then he aroused and spoke his last words.
Thank you Mrs Jones just for being you. God bless you as you learn to live without your best friend!

Another possibility just occurred to me: All the crying may have been edited out.
this is so sad! my grandaunt was texting some1 one day and she died that nite!
R.I.P GEORGE.
Get your story strait woman In another interview she said he didn't talk up until he died
Tyler Lewis yes she did contradict herself from one interview to another.
Why is it that when a woman cries they are called weak, and when they don't they are called heartless? We can't win.
