Awesome job Stacy and Roxy! See you at the Pfizer Fantasia at Equine Affaire on Thursday night, April 10!
The following is from Stacy herself regarding her Ellen appearance. To see this and more, go to Stacy's website at: www.westfallhorsemanship.com/
In case you haven't heard I WAS ON THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW!
I am still trying to accept that it really happened. For me it seemed like it all happened so fast. I was in our office on the Tuesday when Terri answered the phone and took the message that Kara from The Ellen Degeneres show had called and wanted to play the video that Ellen had seen through the e-mail. It was the bareback bridleless run (click here to watch it) and they asked us to overnight a high quality copy of it to them. We did and it was amazing to see Ellen play the clip and talk about reining on national television just a day later.
The trip out was just about as quick. One week after the airing of the first show we loaded up and headed to California and before I knew it we were on TV. Roxy settled in easily at the LA Equestrian Center and our boys enjoyed the swimming pool at the hotel. We were schedule to shoot footage at the Equestrian Center the day before appearing in the studio and I had no idea what to expect. It was amazing to see all of the people that showed up for the shoot. Many cameras were on hand as well as directors and other VIP's. I wasn't allowed to meet Ellen until the cameras were rolling...no pressure! It was so fun. It felt like it happened fast but when it was done we had been shooting for about an hour and a half. I was impressed with Ellen when she agreed to get on Roxy and even more so when she took her for 'a spin'!
The next day was another quick/long one. It seemed unreal to be inside of the TV studio. As we were pulling in there were people lined up and waiting to attend the taping of the show. I just kept telling myself that there were only going to be a few hundred people there (I decided not to think about the millions that were in the cameras!). In the dressing room the kids were happy to find that the show had provided them with everything a kid could want...a fridge stocked with chocolate milks, chocolate soy milk, juices, soda (or pop depending on where you are from) and bowls of candy everywhere. There were also sandwiches etc. but I think they noticed the other stuff more!
Hair and makeup was a totally new experience for me. I think the hair lady got away easy because of the cowboy hat. The makeup I have been told looked great although it did feel a little unusual for me and was interesting to remove later. I was glad that everything kept me busy because before I knew it I was headed on stage. I guess my nerves were acting up a little more than I thought because I was shaking (if you watched you could probably see it)! In the end I was happy with how it turned out.
And the big question...What is Ellen like? Genuine, real, and amazing are all words that pop into mind. She had a genuine interest in me & Roxy, was very personable and really talked with me during the taping as well as the commercial breaks, and it was amazing to see the show from the inside and all she has done.
P.S.- They really do run out and touch up your makeup during the commercial breaks!

I saw Stacey in person and she is amazing.
I must have watched this video 100 times, but it still makes me cry every single time!
I watched it over and over; great video. Made me cry watching it. She's great.
R.I.P Roxy you will be missed. And your baby. You were such a beautiful horse. R.I.P Roxy and your baby
Stacy did that colt starting thing like Amy (amber marshall) did off of heartland! Stacy Westfall is AMAZING!
I watched one of her clinics on "responsiveness through subtle aids" at the Mane Event in Red Deer (April 2008). She is amazing, any horse woman or man shoudl aspire to have that much trust with their horse. And to think people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get fancy imported horses that couldn't respond like that.
Kudos to Stacy.
Horses Rock and Stacy and Roxy are a great pair. It's sad Roxy recently passed away :(
We'll miss her.
Her about being the first woman breaking a horse in 3 hours, there was a dedication to this on horseland (canadian TV show) YOU GO GIRL!!!!
What a genuinelly nice person Stacy Westfall is.
This brought me to tears. I love that song. Means a lot to me also. So, I can completely relate with her. I can relate also with dogs like she can with horses. Very inspirational story. :)
Am I the only one who thought of Heartland?
IF ANYONE HAS EVER WATCHED HEARTLAND SHES JUST LIKE THAT STANDING ON THE HORSE!!!!!!
siera ellis yesss
@herecomeseveningstar shoot typed it super fast and didnt notice, its actually Heartland!
what she does for competition, is way of life for us...
I admire Stacy and her accomplishments. However in junior high school in the 1950s, I took lessons at the Onondarka public park riding stable in Los Angeles's Griffith Park. The stable sponsored a team of young girls who rode as a drill team in complicated formations over jumps - all with no saddle or bridle.
R.I.P Roxy, you and Stacy inspired thousands of people
oh my gosh so she was the inspiration for a heartland episode where they did colt starting and stood on its back :D thats so cool
Stacy is amazing - I wish I had the same connection with my mare that she has with hers :)
Stacy Westfall is Amy Flemings mom in heart land
love her. I'm not a reiner, but a hunter rider, and she's inspired me soo much.
Deep respect!!!
i take lessons and i dont think i can even ride with one rain and im realy good1 so good i work at the stables! so i think she is blessed for this!
Stacy is such a brave person!
Love Ellen. Love Stacy. Best episode ever. They both are amazing women!!
Sorry for your Loss
R.I.P Roxy
my bad... Roxy. I must have been watching Merlin vids and mixed names up lol
i read on facebook she was mute and deaf..thats weird. i still teared up ; 3 ;
RIP Roxy
someone should tweet to ellen or somthing letting her know Roxy passed, im sure she'd make a memorial
@equinechick569, I agree, I have watched the 2006 video probably over 100x & still cry, what a beautiful performance! I love Stacy & love 2 watch her ride, she's such a beautiful woman inside & out! & I'm sure it has alot 2 do w/ how well she bonds w/ the horse's she trains & rides in competitions & shows, they can sense her calmness & love, a lot of people dont give horse's enough credit, they are very smart & intuitive! Stacy's a breath of fresh air! My dream, 2 see her in person one day!
You aren't ment to train a horse at 2 years cuz they're still developing but I love that she can communicate so well with her horses without pain:) that is something the horse world lacks. Love the vidio
the new and improved pat perelli!!! stacy is truly gifted
my idol and the funniest girl in america on one stage
Oh Roxy :(
"See the shiny belt buckle?"
"Yes, it's like a platter, you could serve drinks on it."
If you read her wikipedia page is tells you that was untrue, She is not deaf, mute, or in her 20's.
RIP Roxy : (
i got her autograph at the ohio equine affaire and i picture WITH her:D
RIP Roxy :`(
R.I.P. Wizards Baby Doll :(
@phelone3560 i think she was saying she was the first woman to enter the compatision and show sable and bridless
totally agree i trust my horse compleatly and i dont think i could pull off a spin bareback and not be on the ground..deff takes work
This is true horsemanship.
cool
@ILOVESTORM100
oh get over it- so can a lot of people- but thats not the point. it was the emotion and feeling and utter bond between horse and rider that so many people were fasinated by.
Should have invited Wizard's Babydoll onto the show
because people don't check the validity of things before posting them!
Reining is called the dressage of the western world, YES Merlin is an absolutely amazing horse, well trained, communication between horse and rider at its best... but every reining maneuver takes precise communication and understanding between horse and rider just as dressage does. It is sad that horses here are started and shown so young only to be retired by 7 or 8 years of age, but that is the way it is here, probably due to the tremedous thoroughbred racing influence America has endured.
Yeah - not sure how that rumor went viral. Also that she only needed 3 weeks to train Roxy.
i lov her!!!! if i could pull off even half of that with my reinner i would be more than happy. just haveing that kinda relationship with the horse is amazing
STACY WESTFALL?!?!? *fangirl scream*
anyone know what the competition was that they had 3 hours to get the horse used to touch etc??
Road to the Horse
Why the cruel spurs?
@phelone3560 Yes I don't think that she meant that she was the first woman to EVER do this...
Of course the Indians rode bareback all the time. lol.
She's just the first woman to do it in a competition.
The Facebook Viral Vid says she is deaf and mute. Shameful that someone posted the vid on FB, based on lies!
i thought she was supposed to be deaf and mute
its roxy not merlin
vicious rumor....truth is good enough
Absolutely not, no truth to that rumor at all. somehow that got attached to her video as it went viral...
That was wonderful. She is a true rider, and if there was a goddess of horses, Stacy westfall would be her. Ok, that was a little cheesy...
so what if you have a different sex?
nobody is perfect.
its not that big of a deal. i can do that too.
What does her sexual preference have to do with anything? I didnt see Leno/Oprah/ or any straight person asking her to come on her show? Grow up a little
wow. Bitter much?
You think Stacey is Good?(she is but only in a American way sorry), we are not that good on horseback as a rule, Bring up the Video for "Merlin the bullfighting horse", that is communication and riding. I could not do what Stacey does in a hundred years. but reining is so 6th grade compared to Dressage and bullfighting horses. start them at 7 years and train them till they are 14-15 years. Not babies after a year of training.
