Pine hit it right on the head. DnD is an actor's dream game. And maybe acting school should had DnD classes or put in improv classes. Because thats exactly what dnd is, improving and discovering aspects of your role/character on the fly.
yes and no: that highly depends on your group and DM: there is a tendency in commercial pen and paper RPGs to solve almost every situation by combat - and DnD and its community are particularly bad in this respect.
There is no reason every game needs to end in murderhobo - yet it so often does.
Part of that has to do with the tooling: In dnd, there is a strong emphasis on combat skills in all classes, and virtually every character will be decked out for combat. So, because most characters only have hammers, every problem becomes a nail...
(and of course, this is less of a problem if professional actors and screenwriters play dnd - but through their experience, they also automatically bring tools other than hammers)
@@doyouwanttogivemelekiss3097 I agree. D&D is pretty great for combat, but (at least in the games I've played/run) the overwhelming majority of time is spent fighting, just because it takes so long. Players also need to be prepared to get into their characters, get over the cheese, and be ready to improv or the RP falls to the wayside. It's still great for it tho, if you can manage that, and I reckon professional actors can manage that. That said, for RP I'd recommend stuff like Fiasco (basically a movie making game), Masks, and Fate. They're more geared to storytelling and characters than combat.
@@henrywinchester9162 I have a group I play with who are amazing RP'ers. We RP 60% of the time, combat the rest. The group all lean into accents and deep backstories. 3 are artists and I am singer so it is indeed a creatives dream game. But absolutely it depends on the group.
@@henrywinchester9162 At the end of the day it depends only in the style that the DM and the players want to play.
Shy people can feel uncomfortable with long exclusive RP sessions, like towns, meetings, dealing with politics or solving the conflicts in a diplomatic way so combat is the easy escape, and obviously killing monsters, saving the world and stealing magical artifacts is fun for the most of us. Solving puzzles and challenges also help to avoid combat-combat-combat style of DMing.
On the other hand there can be long RP sessions if the players feel confident in that aspect (critical role style) or if the campaign is directed more towards political conflicts, intrigue and so on, where solving the conflicts by force is the worst possible solution.
I agree it’s great for actors, but it’s not because that’s “what RPGs are.” It’s simply that it’s one good way to play them. But there are a lot of other fun ways to play them that shouldn’t discourage people who aren’t into performing.
They have fantastic chemistry. Pine cannot go wrong. He oozes charisma.
Charisma: 21
knowing that sophia played this at school and right now she is making a movie about the game makes me proud 💝
"Some of these guys rolled a 4" Well played, sir
Seeing how much fun they all have together like this convinces me this movie will be a ton of fun too. Any time I see a cast/crew that has this much fun together i.e. The Boys, Lord Of The Rings etc. that always seems to translate into them making something special. 😊
The fun the cast and directors exhibit during the interview will no doubt influence the movie we finally get to see. I think it's going to be a big, brash, silly and funny extravaganza that actually feels like someone's home D&D game.
A great cast. Dungeons and Dragons looks like it will be a fun adventure.
Lol... Hugh Grant sitting quietly at the corner, but when he speaks, it's a zinger. DM of S&M... Hahahaha...
So, basically Captain Kirk leads a ragtag team of Su*cide-Squad fashioned folks into Dungeons & Dragons? And he's a bard?
Count me in.
The trailer was on point, some of the best and most seamless CG shots I've ever seen.
Are you high?
This gives me hope for the movie.
What a great D&D in-joke insult: "That guy looks like he rolled a 4 in ."
Great panel! you can tell everyone is having fun together, which most of the time shows on the film too :)
I would love to see these guys do a Critical Role campaign
HOLY CRAP! Ok, it killed me when Bones killed off Sweets but if it lead him to creating a good D&D movie it was worth it❤
I teach kindergarten and elementary classes, and we play "Adventure Time" sometimes, which is my version of dnd for kids. It's all based around d6 rolls, and the kids use bows, swords, and spells. They loved coloring/designing their spell cards! When a spell is used, I take the card and put it on the board, and they get spells back after they sleep. I make sure they have puzzles, traps, and treasure to find/deal with throughout each adventure.
Thanks for indoctrinating them when they're young (& creative!) LOL.
Definitely looking forward to this film. Should be a fun and glorious adventure!!!
Oh this is clearly going to be a fun film! Can't go wrong with a heist in a fantasy world based on a game that is essentially an actor's improvisational party game.
Let's watch them play a game! Muligan or Mercer to DM! C'mon! Let's see it!
Also can anyone confirm that the directors mentioned the crit role cast have cameos.
@Ks World Agree, but I think he might be busy.
It would be beyond illarious if any of them appear as some random NPC in a city/town that the group has to deal with (tavern/shop/guard/erudite).
In a comic con panel interview they do mention there is a cameo from a dnd streaming game. But they wouldn't safe which campaign group
The intervieweress did a great job. I know how nerve racking this is.
Um... I'm starting to think this is going to be good. Definitely good vibes from this interview. Gods know I love superheroes, but we really need a lower powered genre with actual stakes.
Omg, Rege is workin' with almost all the Chrises in Hollywood now? Hahaha.
Next up: Chris Pratt
@@szn1580 hopefully not 😂
@@grace9560 why he’s a good human
I love that the cast are fans & play the game!
i hope if this movie succeeds itll open up the possibility to do the Drizzt books in either movies or series.
Love Chris's Kelly Slater look
I have a 3rd period D&D class. So, yes! It helps all kids socialize.
I can't wait!!!!! I'll watch this, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on!
Hugh Grant just low key hanging out back there.
took me over 8 minutes, about, to figured out that writer played 'Sweets' from 'Bones' tv show.
please give us a sequel with this cast!
Hey, that guy is from Freaks and Geeks & Bones!
Yeah, he has been doing screenwriting and directing for a bit. Game Night is hella funny if you haven't seen it.
So far everything he and Jonathan have worked on has been pretty damned good so I have high hopes for this. The cast has nice energy.
John Daley and Chris Pine have worked together in Horrible Bosses 2
The cast has an impressive collection of actors, I hope the story line is good and not to over done with so much fantasy that the story is lost and it is better than the movies before it.
The writers have worked on Spiderman Homecoming along other big titles so they surely are able to write a cohesive story. Since they're both D&D players too I think it can work out well. Hope it doesn't loose the general audience in all the chaos that will be unfolding (because the chaos seems a given)
@@captaintoet1983 yeah , but W W D has really messed up the whole world of marvel. Kill8ng to many supers , poor stories like IM 3 , avengers infinity war , end game , Thor 3 ragstory. To many Spiderman reboots . Now spiderwoman ? Really. Next that will probably resurrect she hulk and make a big mess just like what they have done to starwars.
@@drewsteffen8166 That's the thing though, these sidecharacters existed waaaay before the MCU and with the whole think about inclusion it's perfect to introduce all these super strong woman versions of superheroes. Let's just hope for the best. I'm cautiosly optimistic about the D&D movie.
I'm telling you Pine looks like 80s heman with that hairstyle.
More like Kelly Slater
They should do some PR with Matt Mercer and the critical role group. Maybe a One shot or something.
CR cast is going to cameo in the movie.
So a one shot arround release is also not out of the question too.
Chis pine for president, D&D Elective in school lols
Always been a fan of HUGH GRANT 😂❤
I firstly wasn't sure about the cast.
Seeing them talking about it I feel better.
This movie has potential....👍
I love Chris Pine.
More like Kelly Slater
@@andrimufid2195 he still looks great
Where's that Star Trek 4 film anyway?? Can't wait for that one 😜🤣
Chris Pine looking like Sanguinius
More like a buff version of Jeff Spicoli.
He is primarch worthy.
Nah he looks like the 80s heman with that hairstyle!
Chris Pine is still one of my favorite actors…he KILLED Captain Kirk, and his character in Smokin Aces…man…when he makes Ben affleck talk after he killed him…one of the funniest things I have ever seen/
Did you watch Stretch?
excited to see the movie
You're not alone there 👍
I’m so excited for this movie!!
Did that guy say "family"? Oh shit.
_Someone_ is gonna be knocking on that door with a sledge hammer.
All of the creators sound/look like super nerds. I think this film is going to be good. XD
Love this trailer
It really is a conundrum, you want to parade out the people involved in the movie, but not give away the secrets, so what should you do instead? This did better than some have done, but really, think more about what you do want to communicate, and then you don't need to keep running into the repetitive taboo topics, because you've filled up the time spot with the great background info about the experience of making the film and the enjoyment of being involved. After all this time, we should be better at this.
Love this😍😍😍
Man, I would have ended the interview with a "any last words b4 we go" role the dice!!! *pull out a d20 and give it to the bard to sing the "hope everyone enjoys this movie, bla bla bla"
I love this movie, it was so much fun. These were several clever moves that surprise me. I want to go see it again! 😂👍
Great movie
Love Doric
The trailer was great. They look like cosplayers.
Use the mics, please!
Why hasn't dc/warner media hired Sophia Lillis in a dceu movie yet?😑Are they waiting for marvel to snatch her too?
They struggling to keep the ones they already have
wtf is Hugh Grant doing there
Jonathan Goldstein looks like Tim Roth and Paul Reiser had a baby.
OWLBEAR!!!!!
Interviewer could have prepped her questions beforehand. Ali of BBC is still the best interviewer right now.
Is Chris Pine playing Spicoli in a Fast Times remake?
Is that Mitch from Waiting??
Lance Sweets
I hate the black cube of saturn room they are making them do this interview in
The DnD correlation is double d’s
Is that Sweet's from Bones?
Dr. Lance
I'm guessing Hugh Grant's character is a dragon
3:38
5:58
7:46
Rege jean page ❤ ❤
Nerrdddddsss - assemble 🔥 arrrrrrrrrrr arrrrrrr arrrrrrrrr
jeeeeezzz !!! are those sm 57's or 58's??? At least as an" ACTOR" ... a person can project.... LUST SAYIN'...
Now let’s hear what these actors have to say about your dungeon and dragons hobby game thing…
I mean, they only played the game twice between the five of them, three of them pick on nerds…
Now what do you guys think about AD&D!?
“Well, go see our movie, I need money and attention so I can make a rom-com”
Just kidding, their job is just to play the character, they don’t need to know a damn thing.
Sophia played at high school, Michelle played it growing up. So you're not exactly on point there.
glad pine manage to find work, after star trek.
Bayverse D&D , like what they did with Transformers
LOL no. Bay was basically doing his standard military gunwank skinned with Transformers. This looks like an actual D&D table. A fun one, at least.
@@romxxii Yeah, John Daly and Jon Goldstein are the writers/directors and they have a good sensibility to their writing. That movie they did, Game Night was surprisingly good and they wrote the Spider-Man: Homecoming script which was pretty fun and set the tone for that Tom Holland Spider-man.
Chris Pine has worn that same shirt for almost every interview
I propose the Chris Pine Shirt Fund!!
Let’s get this guy some new shirts !!
Oh and the movie is garbage
@whoever was the second guy, telling about the movie... "when you roll your character, you not always roll a 20" Your brother probably did a good thing killing you of in the first 30 min. *lol*
3d6 or 4d6 and drop the lowest, not a d20... (yup, i know, i know, but we D&D nerds are a very nitpicky bunch of lunatics)
How...is Pine...looking THIS damn gorgeous and young... I mean he has to be dabbling in some sort of everlasting youth spell!!!
Probably picked up a couple tricks from Talisen Jaffe
Now he looks older with his new and recent look silver fox with grey beard
YES!! Players actually making the movie.
10:06 when she said universal I was like they missed such golden opportunity at saying no its paramount. Would have made the video even funnier. This cast & creators give me such jurassic world cast vibes.
I literally thought Chris Pine or Hugh Grant were gonna blurt it out!
D&D heist movie FTW!
My man Hugh Grant, oh man, I hope this movie is a goodie
I would have been surprised if Chris Pine played D&D as a kid.
I’m honestly happy for his nephew, to not only convince the whole family to play a game, but to also run one with such skilled actors. I can barely convince my family to let me run them through a one-shot (but I think I got my dad curious. Hopefully)
I've watched a couple interviews of these guys, they really don't know how to use the Mic lol. They completely forget about it
They should tell people before the enterview that Shure sm58 are directional/proximity mic 😂 Chris Pine got it
Nice interview,I'd like to know more details about the film making
I'm excited for the cast esp. we have Michell R. and Mr. Blue eyes Ken fine 😍😍
After this Vin Diesel's all over the sequel.
Him and Joe Maginello
@@Lavolpeengreece Would also love to see some other faces like Deborah Ann Woll, Anjali Bhimani etc in a sequel if they male one
it looks fun from the trailer
well it certainly looks like this will be a good reboot from the 2000/2001 film
So basically they made the movie version of Dragon Heist?
Is awesone 🐉💥🗡😊
Pine looks goofy with long hair. Josh Holloway wants his hair back 😆
Nah
Wait. Is that SWEETS?
Lance and Kirk have worked together in Horrible Bosses 2
On the fence, we shall see
RJP 😘❤️😍🥰
Why is the interviewer wearing a pop culture t-shirt that has nothing to do with her channel or who she is interviewing?
sometimes people just be wearing what they like, what’s the big deal?
Yeah, how dare she wear the shirt she wants to work that has nothing to do with her work. None of us do that, what a villain
Why does it matter? It turned into running joke, which let the cast loosen up a bit, so no harm as far as I can see.
Hey guys, look at the user name of the person who said this. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Because Wonder Years. Didn’t you watch the interview?
