This is the anthem of southern rock. Welcome to the club! Now you have to check out the live version from 1977 in Oakland to see these guys in action. It's well worth your time.
Right there with ya in the club but folks always suggesting the Oakland performance when the cameras spend so much time on the audience. The Knebworth video from 76 focuses on the band themselves so much more, and they dont cut that final crescendo of the solo quite as quickly.
Lynyrd Skynyrd (and the Allman Brothers Band) are the definition of Southern Rock. Rock and Southern Blues mixed up in some magical way. Keep going down that rabbit hole!
Definitely do the live version ot will blow your mind. But its good you checked the studio version first. Great reaction as usual my friend and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️
@@kevinlese633 Yeah unfortunately unless they were filming it professionally like The song remains the same or Queen live in Montreal or something like that quality was pretty poor
Hey bro I'm an old codger at 64 I dig the way that you love our music this song was put out in the early '70s and we call it Southern Rock. Great reaction Rock on.
Naw this is what is called Southern Rock which is a blend of Blues,Rock-N-Roll and Country and every Freebird reaction when that part hits everyone gets turnt up. Lynyrd Skynyrd Is from my city of Jacksonville Florida so Duuuval till I Die
@@JusticeServ the Jacksonville Jaguars has been a team since 1995 and Duuuval just came around about 6 yrs ago and it refers to the county which is Duval County
@@JusticeServ If ya want there is a documentary called Freebird and it tells about all the original members and how they got the name and then the plane crash all these dudes were just a bunch of poor but happy steet dudes. The part of Jacksonville the Westside when they were growing up they called it Shanty Town but when I was growing it was known as the bottom

You’ve just wet your toe on Lynyrd Skynyrd. You may as well just dive right into it now. They were an amazing band with many great songs. They were in a plane crash in south Mississippi and lost some of their band members including the lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant along with Steve and Cassie Gaines on October 20, 1977.
Southern Rock is a killer genre. Freebird is a Southern Rock Anthem. Killer guitar. Another Southern Rock Anthem with killer guitar is Green Grass and High Tides by The Outlaws.
@@diverdown631 That's my favorite version. At Oakland the camera person was focused on the women in the audience while Knebworth focused on the band! I can watch Allen Collins play all day long so I'd rather see the guitar army!
@@diverdown631 If you check out DramaSydeTV, he did all 3 versions... and Knebworth was the best in his book too. He did studio, Oakland and then Knebworth in that order. Here's the links to all 3. You should watch the live Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird playing at the UK Knebworth in 1976 supporting the Rolling Stones.. They killed it and upset Mick Jagger so much they refused to come out and was over 3hrs late... ...its by far the best they ever done... R. I. P to the band that have left us... 💔💔💔💔💔💔
Freebird and The Outlaw's Green Grass and High Tides have the best guitar solos ever. Southern rock at its best. Darn I can't get the volume any higher on my headphones.
Definitely check out the live version. I'd recommend either the concerts they did at Knebworth 1976, or Oakland in 1977. Both were absolutely amazing, but personally I prefer Knebworth. They went so hard that even the Rolling Stones had trouble following them that night. And the concert had massive attendance because there was a rumor it was going to be the Stones last concert ever. I graduated in 1979 so as you can imagine, this song was one of my top anthems. I also loved when they played this song at a church dance. It starts off slow, then you usually would switch to fast dancing when the tempo picked up, but if things are really good with the girl you just hang onto each other and sway through the whole thing. BTW, read up about their plane crash in Oct 1977 when they were at their peak.
When you sat back down, I said get back up now! And you kicked that chair outta the way...coz you had to move! Check out the movie "Kingsmen" to see the best use of this song in a movie.
Since I didn't see it, this was released in 1973. There are some songs I'd say it is worth listening to live first, but as a general rule of thumb album is the way to go, even music video can be skewed. Also watch for radio versions of some of the classic rock songs that come up such as "Heard it through the grapevine" by Creedence Clearwater Revival its an 11 minute song, or "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly is 17 minutes both are absolutely killer songs!!
Before: I know yall want me to see this live. After: Oh I gotta see this live. Announcer: The great Lynyrd Skynyrd. Man that bands so good you’d think they were from San Francisco.
We had more mixed groups than any generation. We were all cool together. The confederate flag simply symbolized that the were a band from the south. Nothing more.
I'd vote for the studio version. It's the version that got played once an hour back in the '70s. We just called it hard rock. But I guess the southerners called it Southern Rock.
Nice nice nice reaction. Gotta see it live now in 1977, knowing soon after that performance, three would be dead and the rest severely injured in a plane crash. Warning, there's a confederate flag but skynrd was not racist. Today all ages and races listen to their music, almost 50 years later. Go watch, you will never be the same inside. We'll, you will walk away feeling kind of free. Lol.
Ahh Southern Rock! Welcome to another rabbit hole you MUST dive into. Skynyrd, Allman bros, the outlaws, Charlie Daniel’s, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot etc. most live versions are better as they live to jam.
Ya fu8ked up, dude. Missed out on thIS little number LIVE in Oakland Stadium. Check it out. Blows this studio version live. Plus you miss out on the humongeous Rebel Flag.
I'll be back for the live performance. . . . . Oakland 1977 . . . (Skynyrd purists will say Knebworth for the performance but, Oakland is better for the overall experience)

Nice reaction, great to see young people enjoy the music we have listened to for so many years. It was a great time for real music .
Seeing it live is a thing of beauty!

I loved this reaction and I had a smile on my face the whole time watching you enjoy it!! Jump into their catalog. So man gems! Watch it live!!

Free Bird from the live album, One More From the Road. Best version in my opinion. I was 27 years old when it was released. Old classic rocker.
I love it when somebody comes out their chair and you see the "white people music ain't lame????" look on their face.
I loved when they blew the "The Stones" away at Knebworth!
Southern Rock
These guys were incredible and they could play like this for hours and have everyone in a frenzy and it was absolutely fantastic.
Live version at Oakland coliseum will melt your face !!
Saw them june 10th 1977 jfk stadium in philly 100thousand in attendance me and my crew went close to stage for skynyrd so glad we did my 1st concert
The greatest rock and roll song of all time
That was just a warm up for Oakland concert!
Legends!
You will love the live! ❤
After watching that reaction I had to send that to my older brother who plays guitar and learned that note for note.
This is when Rock and Roll got back to the states. British ruled it for so long.
