- Open GDGD tuning here, I really like the tone in this one! Been trying to figure out how to play this thing and it's a fun challenge, folks! So simple and yet so versatile, a cool instrument indeed!!!! The slide is the EVOLUTION from Diamond Bottlenecks, UK. CBG built by Daren Larsen, Florida, USA.
Too sweet for words. You nailed it John. Thank you for sharing your music. I listen to this over and over again.

Great stuff as usual, any chance of any more outdoor jam sessions 1931 Chevrolet style or maybe some more " mechanicals" keep going back to the boat engine room one and the 1931 Chevrolet, if not, well, more than happy just to enjoy the stuff you do put on here.
Thanks for not talking for 10 minutes before you played!
"Less sayin', more playin'!"

I hit Post too fast. I meant to say that I absolutely love your playing.

Hello all this is Daren Larsen, builder of this CBG. Although I'm currently not building, due to a career choice and lack of time. I would just like to say, there are many GREAT CBG builders all over the world. Many of them can be found on cigarboxnation, and a few of them also sell CBG's on eBay. A good CBG is not hard to find, no matter what country you live in.... When comparing other CBG's to this one, remember it has more to do with the musical genius playing it..... greeting from Florida john .... stay well my friend
dlarsen308
I can highly recommed Daren's CBG's!! So when he's building again folks, get one!
Hey Daren what type of humbucker did you put in it? It's sounds great!
mini humbucker from www.cbgitty.com
Wow not only very good looking but a lovely sound too!! Building one myself at the very moment, curious if it will even come close to your sound...
Thanks, Rudy! It sure sound sweet!
You got some good groove man ! Its sounds so friggn cool !
Hadsatriani
Thanks a lot!!!
This sounds fantastic.
Thanks Ryan! It's got a great tone!
Thanks for your replies. I will try your tuning next. I guess as a newbie I still have hard time comprehending the idea that anything is okay. I like the concept of being free and experimenting though.
I am a mathematician I am more used to rules. I think this is what appeals to me about the cigar box, that there are no rules. Is that true on all guitar types?
that tone is damn amazing
Thanks for watching and commenting, Chris!
Thanks, I really like the tone too!
Great sound. I like it.
Thanks a lot, Paul!!
I dig your stuff too!
John, very awesome... Great tone and of course your playing is in the stratosphere as usual. I will keep practicing to get half of this :-)
I appreciate the kind comment, Chuck!! Many thanks!!
So cool!
Very swampy ina good way!!!!
Thanks!
WRROOOOAAA, what a sound. Love it. Reminds me to play ZZ-Top again.
That is a damn fine tone thete buddy! And that CBG is beautiful, who is the craftsman responsible for building it?
Flawless design man!! VERY nice sound!!
John, I've a friend in French Guyana and is going to Florida in April. He's a R&R/Blues master. His English isn't so good. I introduced him to cbg's after he told me he was interested in a banjo. Now he wants to build or buy one. Would you please let me know where in Florida could get a kit or buy a quality cbg? Very nice playing. The history of cbg is old and the single string made out of a cigar box and a broom. History said they were called "Diddly Bo" Bo Diddly with his square Cody? Subscribed!
Awesome playing !! WoW!!
Kerkuil's Channel

More outdoor mechanical stuff to come. Last weekend I was going to jam with a water powered hammer beating a cool beat but it was bad weather. Soon..

Great video and excellent playing. I notice there are several questions about who the builder of your CBG is but I don't see a reply. Would you share that info please?
Thanks and the answer to your question is in the video if you stay with it long enough..... Watch it all the way the end and it's there for all to see!! :-)
Love it man...
Sounds great :)
Smokin' John! Like, Like, Like!
Great jam! I could pick up a little Otis Taylor in there!
Awesome little build. Sounds great! What pickup are you using?
Could this possibly be the sound in the Elmore James version The Sky is Crying chord that has eluded guitarists since that recording?.
John this is beautiful. It is just what I'm looking for. Is it for sale?
Thanks! Not for sale..
Exelen sound , What kind off distorision box ? Fina sakar John
Thanks Ove, no box , just the Roland Micro-Cube amp, my fav amp!!
Hi! I would like to buy one just like yours. Do you know how i can get in touch with Daren Larsen? You blew me away =) Awesome. Best Regards Peter Tingne
That's cool! I sent his email adress to you now in a PM, check your inbox.. Good luck!
Cant find it. My mailadress is: tingne@hotmail.se
Thanks
look at red dog guitars by john mcnair. he has a youtube channel if you want to look...
wymiata, nie ma co ukrywać
What was the pickup you used here? I'm making myself a cigar box. That thing sounded killer!
That`s a sweety John .
damn right, bj!! i really dig it .
Looking for wisdom...Would like to know what kind of pickups you used
Hoping to replicate that awesome sound boss!
Look at eBay for mini humbucker pickup. There's plenty of them and I'd go for the cheapest!
Interesting shape.
nice
Very nice tone what strings size should I use from the guitar
Watch out! Steve Vai is coming personally to challenge You at the crossroad! ;)
where did you get the metal cut-outs for the f-holes? looks sick.
Hi !, I do not play the guitar, I play the violin. But I love the guitar cigarbox these. My idea is to play blues and rock. Which is the best option, three or four strings? Thank you very much!
Did you make that one? If so would you want to make another one?
Haha, swampy it is, bro!
That's really nice wath strings are ya using? Thanks
Thanks! Well, it's something like this: 0.58-0.46-.36-.26.. All wound nickel.
Are you using the top 4 strings from a six string set?
Yes, I think it's from a .012 set.
Hi, was wondering if you know of any websites or clips that would teach this style of slide blues? Would really appreciate if this could be replied to!
Cheers.
What is it plugged into? Great tone! Any pedals?
Bluebird Jo
Plugged into a Roland Micro-Cube here, no pedals. Great little amp indeed!!
BottleneckJohn got one myself & they are grunty
I'm new to CBG but I have one question. I thought open G was GDGB. But you use GDGD. Could u explain why? Thank you in advance.
Well, when I recorded this, it was my first attempts ever to play a 4str CBG. I had no idea how to tune it and this is what I found to work for me. Now I've tried many different tunings and I must say this one is by far the most comfortable, (for me).. That's the thing about CBG's, there's no boundries, just do what ever you feel like, tune to something and play, haha!!
Good answer. I changed my CBG to G D g d and I like it. I used to use GDGB but this other tuning is very versatile.
what gauge strings are you using and what cigar brand box is that? Looks like a good size.
Westsailor
The box is a "Don Pepin Garcia" and the strings could be like 0.12. - 0.38. Nickel.
nice) what is signal chain?
Nice ;-)
