I've also heard alot of people putting down the Squiers with the black logo. But if you're saying a guitar is bad because of it having a black logo, well you probably don't know much about guitars at all.

you can tell the body type on MIK Squiers by the logo color... Black is ply, gold is alder or ash(Protone) and silver is ply except for the E7/E10 models which are alder with a maple top/back... The CN/VN Fender Squier Series models have a silver logo. Not gold...
In order from the start to end of Korean Squier production...
    MIK E7/E10 - Full width Maple/Alder/Maple - Silver Logo
MIK E9 - Full width Ply - Silver Logo
MIK Squier II (E9/S9/J1/M1) - Thin Ply - Silver Logo
MIK S9 - Full width Ply - Silver Logo
MIK S10 - Full width Ply - Silver Logo
MIK M2 - Thin Ply - Black Logo
MIK CN/VN Black Logo model - Thin Ply - Black Logo...
MIK CN/VN Fender Squier Series - Full width Ply - Silver Logo
MIK CN/VN Gold Logo model - Full width Alder - Gold Logo...
MIK Protone - Full Width Ash - Gold Logo
MIK KV97/KV98 - Full Width Alder - Gold Logo
That's the entire lineup from start to finish... And a trend follows the entire production run in Korea... Black logo is ply. Gold is alder or ash. And Silver is ply except for the E7/10 models...

I just bought a 92-93 fender squier series silver label. The information in this thread definitely clears up the fact that this is indeed a squier and not a fender. Great guitar though.

I think it sounds great! I have owned 5 or 6 korean squiers and all of them were great sounding even if they were solid wood or ply. I just ordered a gold label bullet online and cant wait to see how it feels!

I have a '94 black one, almost identical apart from mine has a standard single coil bridge pickup. It too has a beautiful maple neck that is wonderful to play, and it sounds just like a Strat should to my ears. A friend brought over his American Fender and we did a direct comparison. The sound was almost indistinguishable. It cost me next to nothing from a pawn shop. Absurdly good value for money. I agree that the worst aspect is the tuners, which I intend to change too, but they work, so I haven't bothered. These guitars are only limited by the person playing them.

2:36 Also made in the Samick factory - mine is 1989/90. Geat neck and ply body - more acoustically resonant than my swamp ash and alder Teles, or my Les Paul

I have a 2012 gold logo affinity that I've upgraded the pickups and pots in and I have a 2007 squier deluxe strat also with the gold logo that I'm not gonna change anything on at all. My affinity also has the thinner body while the deluxe is full size and honestly feels like an American fender. They're both out of the Indonesian cort factory and good quality guitars. I've always been a fan of squier and plan on acquiring more of them. I found good deals on both just by keeping a close eye on my local craigslist...

I’ve got an E7 87 Korean/Japanese hybrid. It says Made in Korea, but the serial number says made in Japan. It’s also made with mostly Japanese parts.

Jimmy you may have found yourself a trophy here! I would easily classify that as a one of a kind! I wonder how many of the hybrids they made? Cheers!

I have guitars made in Korea in the 1980’s 1962 Fender Strat Copy to exact specs and the husk is solid swamp ash and it was made in Korea and the neck is Taiwan made and the electronics are vintage Japanese. I replaced the original tuner machines with genuine Fender locking tuner machines and the bridge/ saddle assembly with brass block are vintage Fender parts. The partscaster is a Strat and it is made to original specifications but it is different parts from different suppliers. It cost me $40. This vintage partscaster is the WHIP ERIC CLAPTON WOULD LIVE IT AND BUY IT!

Just grabbed a '92 MIK Black with maple fretboard (came with a Crate gx15R and an Arion Hot Watt 2 all for $150). I keep seeing things that say these are the worst Strats ever. But all I HEAR are great sounding guitars. Kinda wild.

These are by no means the lowest quality Squire Strats. I have one of these, laminate body but no discernable issue with that. I did upgrade the pickups and the tuners and it sounds and plays great. Those Chinese Affinity guitars aren't very good. Some of these Korean guitars are better than the Mexican editions IMO.

Thanks for the info! I’m looking for my first guitar & I came across a 1997 MIK Squire Strat in the same red finish. I guess it’s in really good condition, & it has the black logo. I’m not sure if I should go for the MIK or if I should buy a brand new squire affinity strat.

I was in the same position and went for the MIK (a 1995 in red) which was the same cost as a new affinity. Wanted something more unique and they both sound good for the price.
