    We present Wall++, a low-cost sensing approach that allows walls to become a smart infrastructure. Instead of merely separating spaces, walls can now enhance rooms with sensing and interactivity. Our wall treatment and sensing hardware can track users’ touch and gestures, as well as estimate body pose if they are close. By capturing airborne electromagnetic noise, we can also detect what appliances are active and where they are located.

    How long until I have Google ads covering my walls instead of posters?

    Up the resolution on this and have a projector draw your finger/hand movements. Smart "whiteboard" could be an easy product application for business/eductation. Super cool.

    The wall itself is indeed very cool, but what I found even more fascinating is how the team took something that's usually seen as the big downfall of capacitive sensing (Extreme sensitivity to electromagnetic noise) and turned it into something positive.

    Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage. Now the walls have eyes and ears so you truly can be monitored 24/7! There is no escape! Welcome to the new utopia.

    I wonder how it interacts with wireless networks. I.e. 802.11 and associated standards

    Will this wall interfere with wi-fi signal, being an electromagnetic field itself?

    might be nice for large table surfaces or floors etc.

    • @mcoulter876

      On floors, it could tell when someone enters a room and turn lights on or what have you. That would be sweet. Still curious what the crosshatching tape is for, though.

    • @ShadyJ911
      @ShadyJ911 6 лет назад

      The tape is to create a void between the different "pixels" of conductive paint. Without it it wouldn't know where you were touching it.

    This project is a copy of a project developed by a Portuguese 5 years ago. He already controlled the house by the walls using only the paint, reconnoitred gestures, made security systems, antennas, fed wireless leds with the wall,etc... all using paint.
    You can see the tecnology were: ruclips.net/video/Bqon4_rKigs/видео.htmlm28s

    Can we mosify this and used for so many other things?

  • @nikhilkheni7872
    @nikhilkheni7872 6 лет назад

    What are specific uses of this technology?

    • @MrLagzy
      @MrLagzy 6 лет назад

      I see plenty if useful adaptations for this technology. Could be used to turn on lights or other electrical appliances, depending on where on the wall you touch. as it could detect electrical interference, it could be used as a security option alerting an owner if the owner is out of house. great potential. :)

    • @purpleprinc3
      @purpleprinc3 6 лет назад

      But...why touch a wall to turn off a light? You'll have to learn a specific command for it, wouldn't it be easier just to turn off the light...by the light? What are those other electronic appliances you speak of? Be specific. Why does the owner need to be informed if he has left the house? He knows, he's the one who's left. Now if it told you you left a door unlocked, now that would be useful. I cannot see the point of this product.

    and then some future-installed local electromagnetic radiation over saturates it making the entire install worthless.
    brilliant! everyone get out and buy this, i'll grab my AM radio dish.
