So excited to see someone doing a thru hike with their dog! I'll be taking my Service Dog with me so it will be nice to see things from a dogs vantage.
Leo needs a distance tracker on him! By the time he finishes, he’s gonna have double the mileage with all the backtracking he does. What a cutie! And if you’re not careful, Leo will take over your channel! What a star ⭐️!
Leaving your wife…your hardest steps. 🥺 Ugh, Little Bear and I are feeling that when we think about leaving our family. I’m glad Kara will visit you in Hot Springs. I think Brian and the kids will plan on visiting us at the NOC, or somewhere around there. Not making hard plans so we can remain flexible. Looks like you and Leo are doing well. Love his commentary! 😂🐾
@@xbadventures Hey! Thanks so much! We appreciate you! We’re loving cheering Master Splinter and Leo on after meeting them on the FHT back in December. It’s a small world. Little Bear and I are ready to go. Just a few more weeks!
Well, to make the world even smaller, I’m dreading sooo bad leaving my GF (Fierce Flamingo) behind this weekend. We met you on the FHT. We were with hiking that day with Catmando and I think you were with Ramdino there by the river. Also, @wildflowersadventures (Mama Bear and Little Bear), seen you guys at her “birthday party” at the Leapfrog Café. Your husband took our pic that day. I’ll be leaving out from Dicks Creek Gap after the kickoff this weekend. Did the first 70 miles a couple weeks ago. Hope to bump into you all again
You and Leo had a fantast day one. I think Leo did 25 miles with all the running around. You both are doing great. Leo has amazing recall, thats a credit to you for his training and to him for listening. Well done. Continue north and have fun.
Thank you so much for providing Leo's prospective. As a mother to furbabies myself it's important to make sure they get say. Lol! Loving the videos so far, very well produced and informative. Looking forward to following along on your hike!
Oh that was so great. Thanks for such a well done video. Sending it to my grandkids, they have a doodle that looks just like him. Telling them he is their dogs brother, and he can talk! They will be loving it. Happy and safe happy hiking to you both. I know you will have a large following here.
Hey brother you are moving right along. Continue to be blessed and enjoy the views. I’ll be on trail in 6 weeks, your enthusiasm is keeping me FIRED UP!!! Happy 100 miles!
Hey what an awesome thumbnail! Someone really cool must've taken it haha. It was cool running into you on the trail. Good luck to you the rest of the way!
Have fun hiking with Leo. We take our dog on shorter hikes and he loves getting out there where the squirrels are. Leo is almost camouflaged in those leaves.
I just found your thru-hike videos (you were in NYC!) I watched that, and then decided to add you to my list of thru-hikers I'm watching this year. Can't wait to catch up and then follow you until Katahdin!
Tuesday, February 27th: Having goals gives you something to aim for. Nice start. Good weather. Leo looks prepared! lol! Good luck! You got this. Press on! Happy Trails! Ross08
Congratulations on you start Michael and Leo! I love backpacking with my trail dog, I look forward to following your journey. Good luck and happy trails!
Congrats on your first day of your journey on the AT. Watched many of your prep videos and today you definitely seemed a little more pensive than usual; understandable, a lot on your mind. Best of luck; Will be following along.
Best f luck to you both on the trail and I will definitely be following your video. First time I seen someone do the hike with their dog. I bet checking him for ticks is going to be a challenge in of itself everyday.
That's a lot of miles for day one! And Leo probably did twice that with all the running back and forth to tell you about all the squirrels and logs and roots and dirt and stuff 😉😂
Maybe one day I will do a thru hike. But it's cool to watch everyone else. I wish I knew about the AT or thru hiking a couple of years ago. Timing would have been perfect. Good luck.
So I haven’t seen any of this video, nor any video by this channel, but I took one look at this gentleman’s mustache and and said to myself, he may survive the trip, but those handlebars most definitely will not.
All the best from to you and Leo from 🇦🇺 for the rest of your hike. You have made a fantastic start and thoroughly enjoyed that video. We own a Chesapeake Bay retriever, and if he was younger, and if we were based in the states, it would’ve been an amazing experience to take him on, at least some of the AT.
Ok you’re a real hiker you made it all the way to Gooch on Day 1. Might be able to watch this one. Having a dog with make this hike at least 50% harder. Good luck!!

Just wondering if they make something like shoes for dogs. Leo’s poor paws might get a bit sore after a week straight of hiking 15 to 20 milers. I’m not worried if you will do the right thing with Leo or not, it’s clear you love him. Just a question that popped into my head as I was watching.
They have shoes but he won't have traction if I put them on. The vet said his paws need to callous. His body adjusts like mine, I will take time if needed to help him adjust
Well, I do like the bootprint on your hat, Leo is awesome to me (my cats aren't impressed though), you don't wear us out by talking so much (!), so my 75 years young West Virginia hide is glad I subscribed.
