    Elephanta Caves Complete Tour :
Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Elephanta Caves are a collection of cave temples predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. They are on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri (literally "the city of caves"), in Mumbai. Here are some of the fun facts related to Elephanta Caves: Funfact #1: Prior to elephanta, this island was called Gharapuri (land of caves). When Portuguese invaded India to rule, they found a huge elephant sculpture at the entry of island and thus renamed it to Elephanta Island. That sculpture is still preserved in Victoria Garden Zoo. Funfact #2: There are lot of similarity between Kanheri caves and Elephanta caves but the major notable difference is location and religion. While Kanheri is based in national park, Elephanta is located in a Island. Kanheri caves are built for Buddhism religion and elephanta majorly for lord Shiva Funfact #3: Since the thermal conductivity for stone is high, we feel the sense of coolness because the heat is flowing out of your body and through the stone. It's a very different experience sitting on a stone inside the cave Funfact #4: All 12 caves in Elephanta caves which includes various large Shiva sculpture are craved from only 1 stone.
