I just got my Connor o Leary 34 and it is a blast! Riding mainly CX style trucks which I still like and thought I go a Smoothstar THD for flat surf training but the pressure feedback from the trucks make it awesome for pool grinding too. New number one and guess it is staying there. Only bad is one of the wheels has a cut after 1st hour. Not sure if this is a production failure. The board is just unbelievably butter
Yew! epic to hear you're enjoying the new blade! the THD is a game changer, i find I can hold my line with more speed in bowl and drive off the bottom way more without sliding out. Interesting about the cut on the wheel though, I've never had this happen to me before. Might be worth emailing smoothstar and sending a photo to see if it is a production flaw - they might be able to send a replacement wheel.. worth a shot

Thanks for this comparison…… but I still don’t know either of the two to buy! 😂 I’m 186cm, 75kg with laaarge shoulders and long legs… but I like sharp turnings and I’m starting to get confident in bowls and parks.. are you sure that the wheelbase is the same as the old manta ray? Cause I read that is 18,5” on the new one.. 20” as the old one is maybe too much .. dunno🤷🏽♂️ which one could be better in my case? Thanks a lot!! Cheers from Italy! 💪🏿😎
The wheel base on the new 34.5" THD manta is the same as the 35" manta. If I were you, I'd go the Connor, it'll allow you to turn sharper that extra bit and with it's wider deck, you're gonna feel a lot more stable on the board, something that's good for someone who had broad shoulders and long legs. The manta is still fun, but if you're progressing to parks and bowls and getting more confident and like to turn sharp, then I think the connor will suit your style of surfskating more, and it's .5" smaller than the manta, so it'll suit your height better. Thanks for the review of these two boards. I have the old Manta Ray (with older thruster system) & been thinking about the Connor board… particularly, in trying the new D thruster with a tad shorter wheel base. Also (like you), I like to “whip it” more these days… reminds me of a song…

Yeah, I think you'd enjoy the connor a lot if you enjoy riding the manta and like to whip it. I find the Connor has that extra release with the smaller wheelbase, but you're also more stable and feel more in control of the board with it's wider deck. The new THD thruster is sick, can definitely feel the extra hold and drive it provides. HAHA! I knew it was gonna be that song before clicking the link, such a classic!
Incidently how do you compare the connor to the toledo 77? I've got the 77 and love the thing 🤙
The 34" 77 Toldeo was always my go to, but with the 34" connor having that wider deck and wider tail, I enjoy riding that a lot more now, given that I'm a taller guy and have big feet, so my feet just feel more planted on my board now (they don't hang over the edge). But with the wider deck on the connor, it is heavier now than the 34" toledo, so the connor is just slightly not as whippy as the 34" toldeo. The new 32.5" toledo is SUPER whippy, that's really fun on the street and small ramps, but a bit sketch for me in bigger bowls as my feet creep up the board and it feels like I'm about to nose dive sometimes (check my latest video) . But overall, with the addition of the new THD thruster, the Connor is now my go to. A 34" toldeo with the tail of the connor and the THD thruster would be my ultimate board haha
