    Good Morning 🌞 Hanna ! - The Crossing is pretty solid .. Chance is one of my all time favorite songs. Love the moodiness of early Simpleminds " This Fear Of God " & " Today I Died Again " cool songs. Great Wall Of Voodoo album .. 2 Minutes til lunch is awesome 👌 ! Get the Ep with a legendary cover of Ring Of Fire 🔥. I've been going thru a Siouxsie " phase " for 40 years. Hoping you were having a contest .. Win Hanna's shirt ! Jealous of that shirt !! ✌️

      @TheOmahaIntrovert  Год назад +2

      Thanks, David! Most of my band t-shirts/hoodies I order from www.teepublic.com
      I'm not affiliated or anything like that. I just like the variety of designs there are to choose from. Plus they are having a 35% off sale at the moment! Just sayin'! 😉
      Spot on with the love for the early moody period of Simple Minds. I definitely gravitate to that more than the later period.
      And I'm definitely on the hunt for that early Wall of Voodoo 12"! Hopefully I find it soon!
      The 40-year Siouxsie phase - KUDOS. l feel I will be a longterm fan, too! 🖤

    Greetings Hanna! I'm familiar with almost everything you talked about today. Loss: I had a first pressing New Gold Dream on swirled gold vinyl and the Waxworks and Besswax 2lp version. I had to sell them off decades ago after a financial crisis. Bad decision. I'm glad you found Empires and Dance. Great album. I would also recommend the hard to find Simple Minds debut Life in a Day. Excellent album from Wall of Voodoo. Check out the lesser known, post Ridgway release Seven Days in Sammystown. And yes, Stan Ridgway has a very spacious and respectable discography, most notably The Big Heat and his 5 star release Mosquitos. Also dig some Love and Rockets, especially Earth Sun Moon. Through the Looking Glass a long time favorite and the best covers album ever in my opinion. (I didn't even know it was a covers album until years later) And love the Siouxsie sweat shirt! Gratitude.

    • @TheOmahaIntrovert
      @TheOmahaIntrovert  Год назад +1

      Hey there, Todd! Ah, I'm sorry you had to sell those LPs due to financial hardship at that time. If I ever see New Gold Dream on the swirled vinyl, I'd probably pick it up! I'd definitely love to find Life in a Day from Simple Minds. Getting difficult to find those early LPs of theirs for sure. Thanks for the Stan Ridgway recommendations, too!
      Ah, I believe Earth, Sun, Moon could be my favorite L&R record. I don't believe I have shown my copy in a video but I did acquire it earlier this year on vinyl!
      And Through the Looking Glass would be my top pick as far as covers albums go, too! Siouxsie fans unite! Thanks so much, and hope you are well!

    Call of the West is an excellent album as well. Everyone knows Mexican Radio, but the other songs on that album are great, especially Factory and and Spy World. I also really like Stan Ridgeway's solo work. The Big Heat is one of his album's that stands out. He has also done collaboration work with Stewart Copeland of the Police on the single Don't Box Me In, which is one of my favorite songs. Stan's voice is just so unique that you know immediately who is singing. Seven Days in Sammystown is another good Wall of Voodoo album, even though it was after Ridgeway left the band. That album seems to fail on songs that they try to duplicate the original band's sound, but Far Side of Crazy is one of my favorite Wall of Voodoo songs, and I think it works because it doesn't try to sound like the Ridgeway Wall of Voodoo. I am also glad that you finally got to see Urgh! What did you think of that movie?

    • @TheOmahaIntrovert
      @TheOmahaIntrovert  Год назад +2

      I did not know of Ridgway's collab with Copeland. I'm gonna have to check that out! And yeah, I'm immediately drawn to his unique vocals! You are now crowned as my go-to Wall of Voodoo expert! 👑Cheers!

    Thanks for sending me to this video, Hanna. I just stumbled upon your channel a couple of days ago and haven't had time to go through all your posts yet. That Rezillos record is pretty special. There's no one like them. I really like their next incarnation, the Revillos too, which I think is even more B-52s-y. Another fun UK band to check out is the Incredible Kidda Band. A '77 era band that straddled the line between punk and power pop.

    Love the Banshees hoodie, Hanna. That's an essential box set for me, At The BBC. I've never seen that XTC comp around. I have its counterpart, the A-Sides. The first 5 Simple Minds albums are the best, IMO. 'I Travel' - what a tune. Years ahead of its time. It stood out like a sore thumb on John Peel's radio show at the time. It made everything else sound old-fashioned. Siouxsie & the Cocteaus - can't wait for that one. Rezillos - the basslines! They're insane. I go. Winking emoji face.

    Nice pick ups Hannah. GLJ albums are a real treat I think Immigrant is my most played album. Nice to complete your L&R collection. Love that band, they really set the bar high with 7th Dream. A fabulous record. You mentioned your Felt fascination- Lawrence was such a fascinating character. Primitive Painters is one of my top ten all time tracks. I think you are right about Empires and Dance - fabulous record that marked a transition in their career that was punctuated by Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings which is my fave of theirs. I feel your pain with vinyl collecting, prices are out of control right? Look forward to your next sharing.

    I still like Siouxsie's Through The Looking Glass. the covers album might be a little corny but I have a soft spot for a great cover version and they do plenty of those.

    The pretty lady with good taste in records is back.
    Good Choice! Wall of Voodoo - great band. What makes them unique is that they were the first in new wave to incorporate Morricone-inspired sound into their productions. Ridgway wrote perfect lyrics and Marc Moreland was a highly innovative guitarist.
    Jo Callis, a member of The Rezillos, later joined The Human League and co-wrote some of their biggest hits. For the album "Dare" he learned how to use synthesizers in a crash course.

    I've been a Wall Of Voodoo fan since '83.. Dark Continent is hard to find, so great score.. They also have a compilation record called, "The Index Masters", which is their EP plus 10 Live Cuts.. it's great, I have the cassette and CD. Also you should check out their Live performance video at the US Festival 1983, which is their last show before disbanding..

    Well here I am ;) I am so glad you were able to get out to this show after having your travel a bit in doubt. Iowa just seems like a weird place to grab records. It just doesn't feel like a record destination at all like the west or east coast. The vibe from the video feels like the Houston show which has a very similar set up. So I am curious, are you missing any XTC records now? I think you have the entire catalog collection, not comps, right? Big Country ;) Sorry I love the tune In A Big Country and I would grab it for what it is. Now...I have never seen that Tommy James record and I love their records in general. I would be curious to listen to it based on how you describe it. It makes me wonder how it got made given the mafia leanings of the Roulette label. Maybe they thought it would be a winner. As with all your videos, you have a tendency to bring out artist I know well by name but in name only. Gene Loves Jezebel is the one for this video. I have known about them for quite sometime but only 'known.' Love and Rockets...I love their records and I never would consider them really a sell out since they never really did go mainstream. Love And Rockets are just so damn hard to find. I never see their records in used. I dig Simple Minds and yes, this is the first time I am aware of you talking about them. Top 200...hell yeah. I would love to see your breakdown of your top 200. I am super jealous of that Siouxsie record. That one I would snap up readily if I saw it at a show. I think they did a reissue of that and I might have to spring for the reissue. Rezillos...I vaguely remember you showing the CD and I think you're the only one to have shown them. At $26 and given the rarity, that's probably a fair price. Can't wait for the next video which I hope is in the works. BTW - Love the sweatshirt. The image is iconic!

      Thanks so much, Paul! Yeah, in our experience, we haven't had the best luck with Iowa when it comes to record stores. Des Moines hasn't really wowed me with their record stores. However, the Des Moines record shows were great this year! As far as XTC, I'm pretty much complete except for Apple Venus and Wasp Star! oh yeah, give this Tommy James LP a try! I really like it!
      Yes, Love and Rockets records are truly getting harder to find, I swear. I forgot to show a $1 7-inch of theirs I found at a record show this year. One thing I will say about the fairly recent Siouxsie reissues - they are terrible...mainly because UMC did them. OMG, my reissue of Peepshow is the ABSOLUTE WORST. I don't know how they botched it so badly, but they did...

    So great that you got the Rezillos, they were the Edinburgh College of Art band, and they really played each gig like it was their last. Faye Fife was like this insane parody of a 60s dayglo go-go dancer, just bonkers energy. For me they epitomised the punk ideal of burning bright for a few weeks then disappearing forever, so it's kind of poignant to see them recommended and remembered by you, with such simpatico good taste.

    I'm with you on the 80's obsession, more of the UK invasion of the times. The unfortunate reality of any "collectable" is that the more people get involved the more out of hand it seems to get, it's disheartening at times because, as you said, things you saw regularly or at a reasonable price are now hard to find and when you do find them, your paying out the nose. I've stopped going to resale shops all together, people think they're sitting on gold mines just because it's a vinyl record. I don't have much near by in terms of brick and mortar, so I'm mostly having to work through Cogs and online shops, which isn't as fun in my opinion. Nice little haul, you got me on a little Siouxsie bender as well as of late, always enjoy your vids.

      Hi Tony! I agree with your whole statement here. I'm still having a little bit of luck at my local shops here, but the last half of this year I have been buying used online quite a bit. Sometimes there are better deals to be had online but not always. You're right, it's not nearly as fun shopping online. Kind of takes the thrill factor out of it, but comes in handy for those super collectible titles. So glad you're on a Siouxsie kick as well! Cheers!

    Great presentation, love that Big Country album i saw them on 'The Crossing' tour and the wall of sound they produced was just amazing. One of their best live tracks back then was 'Heart And Soul' but the studio cut never made it on the original UK press and only featured on a 12" that was quickly withdrawn from release. They were great with their fans and autographed our record covers after the gig. Saw them again on the 'Steeltown' tour and sensed they were kind of jaded with all the relentless music industry pressure.

    Hey hey Hanna. I feel like a broken record (pun intended) when I say lots of good pickups. I'm surprised this was first Gene Loves Jezebel record you've picked up. Seems like a band that would already be in your collection. I picked up the CD of that record just this summer. I think I have 3 of their albums. Same with Simple Minds, surprised you hadn't talked about them before. I love them. Got to see them live last time they played the States. I know it's commercial as hell but I love Once Upon a Time. That was my intro to the band and got that record when it came out and listened to it nonstop. But I do dig those earlier records. I like the first one a lot too. Seems like one you would have with Chelsea Girl, etc. I gotta look into that Wall of Voodoo record. I know nothing of theirs beyond you know what. So I'll look around. Siouxsie is the best, right? And then the Rezillos. Can't disagree. That record I also got the CD. Awesome stuff. Fun. All great stuff. Hope all's cool and ya'll doing well.

    Great finds Hannah.I discovered Gene Loves Jezebel in the Encyclopedia of New Wave and it sparked my curiosity on the band which led me to hearing the song Desire(Come and Get It) from their album Discover which I ended up getting a couple years ago and it’s a very good album. Love Simple Minds and doing my best to get more by em,The crossing was an album I found back in 2015 at a record sale at a church which I thought was just a bunch of used gospel and Christian records but ended up being a whole bunch of used vinyl of pretty much all genres but lots of em were in pretty bad shape except for a few a gems that were in great shape including a couple gems I was surprised to find like Housemartins London 0 Hull 4 and Meet Danny Wilson by Danny Wilson and another one of em happened to be The Crossing which is a fantastic post punk new wave album.
    Love Simple Minds and Siouxsie and the Banshees and trying my best to get more by them and Love And Rockets is a great album that definitely has Jesus and Mary Chain on it particularly the song Motorcycle which is my favourite song of it and when I got it a couple years ago I didn’t know So Alive was on it and I was ecstatic cuz that’s such an awesome tune..once again gr8t video take care!

    Hi Hanna, yes I think $26.00 is the most I paid for an LP in my life. Maybe I have 10 to 20 LP's from prices from $20.00 to $25.00, for the rest of my albums I paid less or much less, and I have a lot of good stuff. Sadly those low prices aren't coming back any time soon I guess.

    Hey Hannah, nice finds as always. I love covers when done for B-sides of singles, the occasional LP track and tribute comps. The problem with doing a whole album of comps (and there are plenty of exceptions to this) is that most of the time it turns from being a fun thing to do to being untra serious because they are making an album and there can be some high stakes involved. The Ramones covers LP is a perfect example of this. They went from fun, silly covers to untra-serious remakes and it really didn't work. But like I said, there are exceptions. I thought Billy Joe Armstrong's No Fun Monday's album was excellent (although that is more of a comp than a planned LP). Anyway, great seeing you. Take care...

    Yes the constant price increases on vinyl just plain sucks. That B-sides XTC album looks very interesting. Never seen that one out there at all. I have also noticed that The Crossing is not as available as it once was, and I need to find a great copy of it. As far as Gene Loves Jezebel, my favorite from them is "Kiss of Life" which was actually the next album under that band name. There are actually two versions of GLZ, after "The House of Dolls" since Michael Aston went solo after that and Jay Aston kept the band going. "Kiss of Life" is the first album after that split, however Michel Aston would later rejoin the band and release albums without Jay, so things can get a bit confusing. I prefer the early Simple Minds too, the later stuff sounds a bit too same-y. The Rezillos looks quite interesting, I'll check them out.

I sorta been checking on them on and off for the past several years... they have a very unique New Wave sound combining elements of darkwave and spaghetti western, and humor in their music. Their biggest hit to most people is "Mexican Radio", which I also like... but I somehow came across their cover of "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash, but their version was way darker sounding with the synthesizer and surf guitar... love that a LOT actually.

    Hi Hanna. You saved the best for last. That Rezillos LP is terrific. And I totally recommend their follow up, Mission Accomplished...but the Beat Goes On, a live album that sounds excellent.
    You might be interested in my review of their Peel session which contains many of the songs on the album you have.
    " How can anyone not like the new wave/ punk sound of this Scottish group? And how could any young punk not fall in love with singer Fay Fife and her adorable kinetic energy? They started as an eight piece band when students at Edinburgh Art College in 1976, taking their name from a comic book cafe called Revilo Cafe. My introduction to Scottish punk came fast and furious with the 45 I Can't Stand My Baby (8/3/77), an all out total blitz that hasn't lost a shred of power in over 37 years. I urge everyone to listen to it on youtube...... Off the evidence of videos, their live shows must have been a total blast--stone cold rave-ups. So why wasn't this group a lot more popular? Maybe this had something to do with it. Their label, Sire Records, was owned by Seymour Stein. At a reception for the Can't Stand the Rezillos album Fay went at Stein's wife Linda with a cream cake. Possibly their promotion suffered a bit after that... Gotta love the girl."

    Big Country - the first band I obsessed about - also the first band I saw live. To the extent I wore lumberjack shirts and had my hair like Stuart Adamson. Him, the Edge and McGeoch are the reason I learned to play guitar.
    Pick up "Steeltown" (IMHO their best album) and "the Seer" too. Also - scour the streaming channels for their soundtrack to "Restless Natives" which should have been an album in its own right. Sadly very hard to come by on a physical format - was finally issued on CD in a rarities set a few years ago and on the now impossible to find "Seer" reissue CD set.
    Simple Minds - get all the ones up to "New Gold Dream" and stop there. It goes downhill FAST after that.
    If obsessing about the Banshees - the BBC Box set and "Downside Up" are essential. Also "A Kiss in the Dreamhouse" (the last McGeoch album) if you don't have it yet. Skip the RSD cash-in compilation.
