Diamond Garden by Mick Stephenson | Lumiere 2023

Hear from Mick Stephenson the artist behind Diamond Garden, exhibited at #lumieredurham. Located in College Green, behind ‪@durhamcathedral1093‬, this spectacular installation engaged the community as part of Lumiere’s extensive Learning and Participation programme.
Through the creation of the piece, young people were educated on the evolution of energy, from the importance of Durham’s coal history to the value of using sustainable energy sources. Durham schoolchildren then created their own solar lights to surround the central diamond, presenting a sparkling garden.
