@starkravingnormal dude liberal means you support capitalism, leftism is liberalism. you dont know the most basic definitions of our current system, and youre out here thinking you have debunked decades of theoretical work? you dont know what anarchy is, you learnt it from kids TV shows and CNN
@starkravingnormal and bruh how is slightly reducing the polices bloated budget anarchist??? if you gave Police the same amount of money the UK or other developed countries do, that wouldnt be anarchy, because defunding isnt abolition you actual walnut.
A few years back, my son (who lives in Seattle) was in Portland with his girlfriend, getting ready to start a bike trip through the redwood forest...only to find Against Me! was playing there. Afterwards, they talked with Laura, and he told her his mom was also a fan. Laura wrote me a note, with a drawing of a bike, saying my son was cool. I treasure it!
This song brings back some amazing memories, when it was all about the music. I'm glad she's playing this again. I was one of the few who was at their shows back in the early 2000s. I think the first time I saw them there was maybe 5 people at the gig. Miss those times.
Despite still believing in the power of the vote to eventually bring about socialist liberal policies...these trying times has me breaking out the black flag and screaming at the top of my lungs for change. As a person that has studied history for ten years in academia I can attest real change rarely happens. When things start breaking the powers at be pay attention. That results in arrests and severe backlash from conservative forces, but it often brings real change. As an activist these days you have to balance the idea that I may get arrested or beaten to support what I believe in over the idea that that sacrifice may change the country. This is a choice we must all make.
"As a person that has studied history for ten years in academia" you should probably know by now that most revolutionaries are just used as pawns in coups and are summarily rounded up and imprisoned or executed because the new regimes have no use for dissent against them, and that real change does in fact happen internally.
You believe what you want and fight for what you want. Regardless of what people say. Anarchy is individual freedom and that means your freedom to stand for what you want to see changed. Keep being an example and keep going
although very hard to believe, not necessarily mutually exclusive. sure, it would be ideal if she donated the majority of her wealth to some charity or something, but even then it's entirely possible to be anarchist (or at least allied with anarchism) while having a lot of money. it's not the act of having money that's immoral, it's how you make it and what you do with it
Cute line. But you do get it's not really a contradiction, right? Just like there are democracy activists in china, or in colonial america for that matter. Being an anarchist obviously doesn't require the existence of a perfectly formed anarcho utopia. An 'ist" refers to what someone advocates for, not the system they were born into. To take it even further, many forms of anarchism do not condemn individual entrepreneurship, artists or artisans. Simply being very well compensated for the fruits of your own individual labor is not necessarily problematic. It's not like she heads a defense contractor corp or something.
