I have seen this tradition when the previous king was still alive. That Suphannahong boat is still as elegant as ever. You are lucky to see this tradition with your eyes. I love and always miss Thailand.
I agree. I really love the look of that boat. I never got to see the procession under Rama 9. I wish I would’ve since he was the one that revitalized the tradition under his reign.

Thank you for getting related history. In the old time travel by boat was the norm. The kings went to pay respect to Buddha and offered wardrobe for the monk once a year after the end of Buddhist lent. The King Rama 10 did this in 2024 for his special occasion.

I saw everyone over there. In 2019 I watched it from the Bangkok side and I wanted to see it from this side this time. I enjoyed it both times. So much fun to see.

There is a story that the royal barge of King Rama IX was the Narai Song Subhan Royal Barge, newly built using the prow of the barge from the reign of King Rama III as a model. It was to be used on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne in 1996 as the main royal barge. When His Majesty successfully boarded the barge, the Suphannahong barge became disheartened and refused to move no matter how hard the rowers tried. It would not move, the water was too fast, the clouds were gathering and it was going to rain heavily. When King Rama IX saw this, he was afraid that the rowers would be in danger. He said, "Enough Suphannahong. We already know Suphannahong." The waves calmed down and the sky cleared. After that, he made the Narai Song Subhan the secondary royal barge and the Suphannahong the main royal barge as before. 😊

The main point of this event was it is the annual Royal Procession Offering Kathin Robe which our King provides to the Royal Temples. And might be this year is our King's 6th cycle and Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn's turn then there is the Royal Barge Procession. On the reign of King Rama IX, there were many Royal Procession Offerring Kathen Robe to by Waterway (By Royal Barge Procession) to Wat Arun many times, every 3 or 4 years.

Yes, the uniforms are similar to the Ayutthaya era said in the Ayutthaya Testimonies (1767); All the Siamese soldiers wore red shirts, red hats and red head coverings.
I think they are very similar. There are murals and other documents that show what they looked like. I’ve also seen some sketches of the boats and they are similar. It’s a great tradition that they have carried forward.

Good to see the old tradition boat, I used to experience once 12-13 years ago but only the firework and Loy Khatung at Chao Praya River.

The main point of this event was it is the annual Royal Procession Offering Kathin Robe which our King provides to the Royal Temples.
And might be this year is our King's 6th cycle and Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn's turn then there is the Royal Barge Procession.
On the reign of King Rama IX, there were many Royal Procession Offerring Kathen Robe to by Waterway (By Royal Barge Procession) to Wat Arun many times, every 3 or 4 years.

Do you think the uniforms are the same ones from Ayutthaya era or they been update?
Yes, the uniforms are similar to the Ayutthaya era said in the Ayutthaya Testimonies (1767); All the Siamese soldiers wore red shirts, red hats and red head coverings.
I think they are very similar. There are murals and other documents that show what they looked like. I’ve also seen some sketches of the boats and they are similar. It’s a great tradition that they have carried forward.

There were 2412 navy soldiers rowing in 52 barges, king boat is names pra supannahong, meaning royal golden swan
