Great Horror Icons List! :) Personally, I would have added George Eastman's cannibal from "Anthropophagus" or his maniac from "Absurd" to the list. He really gave me the shivers back in the days of the "German version" of the "Video Nasties" craze.... ;-) Oh, and Mick Taylor from the "Wolf Creek" movies just came to my mind... ;-)
An hour solo episode, great job Darren. In the icons tier, i'm most part i agree, except i'd bring Chucky to the first place on the podium. Get well soon Frank
Superb Darren. The burning and sleepaway camp are funny ones. My step dad introduced me to both and if they had both been single films theyd both be held in same regards. My bloody valentine id also put in the same bracket. Great trio of underrated slashers. Aye ive had to close the curtains a few times watching films. My 78 year old neighbour, Bridget walked past as jennifer jason Leigh was walking around topless in miami blues the other day 😂
Great List. Love getting other like minded horror fans opinions on who their most influential icons are: My True Icons are: Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Tim Currys I.T, Freddy Kruger, Jaws, Ghostface, Candyman, Harry Warden, and Dracula, as these are the true icons that influenced my love for horror as a child. The rest of my list id take too long to try and place them! Great list though, love how much detail you give over your choices.
I remember when IT came on TV. I was in middle school. Couldnt stay up late either night to watch it all but my parents recorded it for me. Damn Curry scared the hell out of me.
Agree F13 part 1 AND 2 are pretty awful. The franchise doesn’t really start really being good until part 3. And even then, parts 3,4&6 are the only good ones.
@@TSLMoviePodcast - Haha! I mean, Jason, Freddy and Michael are undoubtedly Icons. For me, a horror icon is a character that even casual moviegoers know by sight.
‘CHILD’S PLAY’ resting at a mere “seviceable?!” Ha!!! CP1,2,3,4 (ehh… for the most part) and the scaled-back approach of 6 are great! “It’s not the SIZE that counts, buddy. It’s what ya DO with it…”
@@TSLMoviePodcast Personally, Bubbling Under is plenty of admiration. Same Mancini vision for all of these films, connective tissue and continuity in a long-running franchise, EVERYONE KNOWS CHUCKY AS AN ICON, even if the entries aren’t all winners. The tv show, 4K blu-ray releases, remake film, and merchandising alone are enough for higher cult status. Haha… great list Darren! At least we share an all-time favorite movie 🎃
Quality stuff as always, Darren. Overall, I must agree with most of your list…a few discrepancies would be found on my own personal list, but no complaints from me! Cheers 👍
The Tall Man, from Phantasm, is an icon, in my mind. The physical embodiment of death itself, he would send that little cupcake Freddy back to his mommy's basement, crying for his security blanket, and would cause GhostFace to search for a change of diaper.
Pinhead was better off without an origin story. Once they humanized him in Part 2, it was all over. Plus they made him look like a bitch in front of Channard 😕
The 3rd nightmare on elm street is by far the best. The first one is good, but I hate the ending. The second one is not very good. For me 3rd 1st and 4th are really the only good ones, but the 3rd is one of the best horror movies of all time.
I just started watching this a second ago. I don't need to watch to know The Shape should be #1 and True Icon. If he's not I'm trolling in my mind! Lol! Looking forward to watching!
Nice list Darren. I aree with alot of them. Jason Voorhees is my favorite of all time but Ive always enjoyed Halloween as well. Especially part 5. Lol. Just kidding. Surprised you didnt have Alien on there
Fisherman, Prowler, Cropsy, are Dead on Arrival Pam Vorhees, The Miner, Tar Man are some and Done. The Fly and The Thing are Servicable Christopher Lee Dracula is Bubbling Under Ghostface is icon status… simply for saving horror and being the face of horror for the entire generation right behind the Jason/Freddy/Michael generation.
@@TSLMoviePodcast - You asked for feedback, and after the work you put into the channel, you absolutely deserve a respectful response. Keep up the great work.
Great video Darren! Love the list, you made some great choices!! A shout out to Frank, get well soon. Darren without Frank is like Abbott without Costello. Great to see Jason on the icon list. His latter movies from 8 to 10 may not be great, but you can't deny his icon status. When you think of horror movie villains, Jason Voorhees definitely tops the list. I really loved the 2009 reboot, I think it's far superior to the original, no offense to Besty Palmer, she was amazing in that film. Here's a quick question, now that the lawsuit with Friday the 13th is settled, do you think we'll ever get another Friday the 13th movie and what would it be? Another re-boot, or a sequel of some sorts?? Personally, I'd like to see some sort of sequel. Even if Jared Padelecki comes back briefly, just to set up another story would be fine with me. I mean, another re-boot is kind of like, how many times can you tell the same story?? They could also bring back Derek Mears, who was awesome as Jason. What are your thoughts? Keep up the good work! You guys are killing it!!!!
I agree with you about Chucky. If you were lucky enough to be young, early VHS days, there was nothing that you didn't see. Watching real gore fest films far away from the usual, mainstream TV Hammer House/Amicus. We had zombie's, Cannibals, masked slasher's, demon's. Italian horror was shocking at the time. Disappointed about Pamela Voorhees only being serviceable. However I kind of agree, she did her job, introducing Jason and it would be silly, to try to return her character. Friday 13th Part 2 - is my favourite of the franchise. Jeepers Creepers 2 also. I do feel Freddy and John Kramer have earnt iconic status. I loved SAW then the rest go uninteresting. Same as the NOES franchise (apart from first and Dream Warriors). The remake of The Fly was brilliant. I also like The Fly 2. Still get upset at the dog! Jaws was the first horror film I watched, when first shown on TV. I was still at Junior school. Completely agree with you. LeatherFace is definitely an icon! Good ranking though. Been a fun watch!
Thanks Clara, I have a long history with horror being a child of the early 70s, I was a VHS nut 40 years ago. Loved the format, loved movies and it’s why I work in the industry. Thanks for your feedback, I love it when people take time to contribute constructively. 👏🏼
Nice selection Darren! Made it up on 'The Fly' 😂. Theres a few I'd have dropped down a tier (The Fly, The Thing, Werewolf in London, Art the Clown) and I really think Pennywise and Ghostface are Icons of horror. But as long as Bruce and Bates is on top im happy 😏.
I'll be honest. I was never big on Scream Franchise either. Yes the first one was good a different. After that i could care less. Kind of like the Saw series.
I would have put Chucky Ghostface Pinhead and Leatherface as True Icons for me. The Nun was Dead on Arrival i agree same could be said for Annabelle but i think those movies are slightly better. Darren i also noticed you completely ignored Leprechaun 😂😂😂
Great job, Darren! I may not agree with some of your choices, though 😅. For instance, I do love The Fly as a movie, but I wouldn't personally consider Brandon-fly as a true horror icon. Also, I agree that the Nun movies are dull, but in my opinion the second one's slightly better than the first one... Get better, Frank! 👍
When The Thing came out in Norway. It ruined the film for the Norwegians because of what happens at the very beginning of the film. The people chasing the dog are Norwegian scientists and they are shouting in Norwegian. The Americans dont understand what they are saying obviously but Norwegian film goers did.
Oh Darren....leatherface not an icon but the fly is? while the remake of the fly is a good movie the character is certainly not an icon, when would you ever mention this character again in a general horror conversation probably never. Everything else probably spot on though, great vid really enjoyed it. Get Well Soon Frank!
Fair enough, but it’s a personal list and it’s all down to the impact it has on you as an individual. I saw the fly on release (near enough) and it was a movie that I hold in high regard. One of the greatest remakes ever made, some of the greatest practical FX, a killer performance from Goldblum and a monster that helped shape my warped 13 year old mind as a young horror fan. For me, this creation is iconic and a milestone in mainstream and commercial horror cinema. Ithangyou!
@@TSLMoviePodcast Personal preference of course no argument (plus 100% agree great movie and performance form goldblum), horror community horror icon in general? never 🙂
Darren. How bloody dare you!!! Your ranking is crap mate 😂 I'd probably bump the fly down 1 to be honest but love the film. And pam voorhees down 1 too. She's pretty shit. Gets defeated by a girl who picks string as a weapon. Scary movie esque that scene We do need a re doing of the burning though, you're right. Maybe re think the title of the movie too. Very 80s b-movie title
