TBH i havent ridden up on AK for so long i couldnt really compare. Pan Pac forest just north of Napier is pretty good riding tho keep an eye on their website as towards the end of the year i think there is going to be some major trail closures. Te Mata Peak 3 trails which are worth a look

Hawkes Bay is better than AKL. More hills.
