FAQ's
-How many squares do I need for a baby blanket?
This can vary, it really can be however big or small you like, but i generally do 4x4 or 5x5.
-How many chains shall I do for a *single/double/etc' blanket?
Again, this can vary. I would suggest that you do your chain and lay it down agains the bed you are wanting it for. It should be the same width. You should then ad a few more to make it a little wider.
-How much yarn do I need?
Unfortunately, I will be able to answer individuals questions about how much yarn you would used do to multiple factors effecting it. Such as, your tension, the size of hook and the yarn being used.
-What camera do you use?
I use a Panasonic Lumix GF1 to film my videos on a tripod.
-What do you do for a living?

I love how everything's a "magic" something when it comes to knitting an crocheting. Magic loop, magic circle, magic knot
When u see it for the first time and realize how genius it is, it really does seem like magic tho 🤣
I've been crocheting for just over a year and I've only just found this! It's fabulous and the way I'll be joing wool in future 😊
Loved your movie
That's why my witch side loves crochet as well.
You just don't believe in magic
Pulls tight
Yarn: snaps.
😭🤣🤣
HAHAHHAHA😂😂
It happened to me-
I literally read this and then I w h e e s e d
Thats why Imuse the Russian join. Takes longer but less risk of it snapping
I’ve watched this video several times a week for a year every time I need to join yarn! I can’t ever remember how to do it. Please never take this video down.
Try saving it to your library. I saved this to mine. It really helped me to find it fast.
Ugh me to. Got it in my saved.
right! me too
😂😂
Same. I end up with 2 knots that won’t move! 😂
I don’t do it often enough so I have to watch this video each time.
“Ya it’s just a knot there’s no magi-“ *pulls two ends* “OH my goodness that is the most magical thing I have ever seen”
exactly how I reacted
Lmao quarantine crochet gang
I Like Squirrels 1234 yes!!!!
Girl.. you and me both.. and yes to the Quarantine Crochet gang. I think the craft stores are still REELING at how many of us new yarn users there are! and Bella Coco is AMAZEBALLZ

when she said, "It won't come undone, I promise," I was like, oh my god, she's lying, but it actually worked! Thank you!
You're very welcome :)
nah, mine just came off 2 minutes ago when I'm knitting😑I'm done with knots. Go back to Russian Join.
Its like she read my mind lol! Ill try this one.
@Nomungegee Natsagdorj then you need to reconnect the yarn to the network :p
I was like "this is SO not going to work" I tried it and I was like "oh my! I can't believe it worked!" :O :D
There is a special place in heaven for people like you
Ahh Thank you Elia thats such a lovely thing to say, thank you for your support :)
I will say, that from experience, this works 95% of the time. I used this method primarily for years.
Now, I'm a little more cautious about which yarns it's suited for. I made the mistake of using this to join 11 skeins when I made a cardigan, and it was a slippery yarn, similar to Caron Simply Soft. This knot being magical no longer held true, and upon finishing the entire piece I looked it over and began to notice the knots had started slipping loose.
I learned to either not cut the ends so close to the knots and to dab them with Liquid Stitch, or to leave longer tails on the knots and weave them in.
This absolutely works with stiffer yarns and natural fibers. It's especially useful for amigurumi, because there is no slack to permit the knots to work loose (even with slippery yarn)
This is the most Informative comment in this thread. Thanks for sharing.
@@vanelab no problem! I'm so glad you found it to be useful info!
Hi. I've just started using this technique for yarn joining and now I'm concerned. I am using Caron Simply Soft yarn on intermediate to advanced granny squares with about 5-7 colors per square. I came here searching for an answer to would this knot hold up to washing? Now, I'm wondering if its going to hold all my work with that yarn, use, and washing? PLEASE HELP!
@@teresaandrusz that, I can't tell you. I've been scared to wash my cardigan in a washer, and have only hand washed it. You could run a test wash. Make a Granny square (or whatever you like, or even a gauge swatch) using that yarn and make sure you cut and reattach so you have lots of knots. Then run it through the washer and dryer. Then at least you'll have an idea of how the ends stand up to a wash cycle
@@JeimiJamie Thanks. That's a good idea, and one I am considering.
"it won't come undone I promise"
me: okay :D *pulls it so hard the yarn just snaps*
Omg 🤣🤣🤣
Crochet gives you muscles.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm in love with this! I've been crocheting for 60 yrs and finally I found your video. Thank you so much!!!
Peg Carter lol now u must redo all of ur projects
Could u please suggest me how to start crocheting..?? Because I am very much interested to do but I don't know how to start it...so can u please suggest me ??

Wow!! That’s amazing!!
Will you be my crocheting Coach?
also called a "fisherman's Knot" or sliding knot.
Sheria Johnson yes and you can use diferent kind of ropes and even wet they don’t unknot
Double fisherman's knot*
@@nemonimityyou're incorrect. A double fisherman's knot would have two loops on each end of the rope.
Technically a fisherman’s ’bend’ as it is tying one line to another. (See: sheet bend, carrick bend, etc.) as opposed to a ‘knot’ where all the tying involves only one line.
Sorry, I’m pedantic for a living. And sailors gave weird (but specific) names for things.
she is totaly right on this
My "Granny" taught me this trick 66 years ago when she taught me to crochet, I've never had any trouble with the "ENDS" that I always hear other people complain about, in fact for a very long time I thought that those complaints were silly, then I joined a "crochet Club" and when I watched others struggling I was flabbergasted! Been teaching many others how to do this ever since. Thank you for the video that I can share with others! Keep up your good work.
You are welcome :)
Well my blanket is 90% done and I have 4 tied knots thick ones because I didn’t find this one in time. I’m using a sparkly thicker yarnspirations, but it’s definitely visible. I can’t cut it because 2 knots even came undone,so I did 4 ! Ouch. I did a beautiful job but the knots are eyes sores . I find this wool often comes apart easily as well but it’s so pretty. I’ve already cut them so now I’m stuck. I have at least 9 big tied thick knots I’m praying won’t loosen when I give this to baby / when washed . It’s not even like I can undo them, I untied the ones I could but I’ve put so much work into this I didn’t want to risk it .

Will this knot make it through several washes?
5 years crocheting and I still come back to this video cause I keep forgetting lol
Great video. Outside of yarn, it is widely known as the "Fisherman's Knot" because it's small profile allows you to join fishing line without any excessive knot bulk causing noisy drag in the water. When I took up knitting, I brought it over to this hobby because of how perfect it is.
This is basically what we call a sliding knot which is used on leather cords for neck jewellery. Nevertheless l never thought of using it on other projects... Thank you for sharing.
Interlocking
I learnd it at scaut😒, it's so easy!

WHERE HAS THIS TRICK BEEN ALL MY LIFE! :O

HOW DO I JOIN😂
You’re a blessing, I’m making a Christmas present for my brother and it’s so lovely but I ran out of yarn and didn’t want a lumpy knot in the middle! You’re the best! Happy holidays
Thank you. I just started my first project and you helped me continue with minimal effort and stress after I popped my yarn mid stich❤
You're welcome :)
@@bellacococrochetwow! So glad I found this
This is amazing!
Now EVERYONE can make their own trendy ball of that self striping yarn that’s so popular!! Yay! And use any color combinations that suit them!
Kathleen Vassallo what is that ball? Could you tell me how to Google it please?
Kathleen Vassallo .... great idea, self striping yarn; thanks for that.
I may actually do that! I have two colors for a girl's scarf, that I don't know how to incorporate... It will be tedious, but I can make my own yarn ball!
I didn't necessarily need this video right now but it's SO gonna come in handy in the future!
This technique is so, so amazing!!! No more yarn tails!!! No more extra hours of sewing away yarn ends. I found a way to position the new yarn color right at the spot where I need it. This is how I do it: I make only half of the last stitch of the row of the current color and hold with my thumb and index fingers the spot where I need the new yarn to start. I then unravel a small portion of the knit or croched row and holding the marked spot with my two fingers, with my other hand I loop the current yarn OVER the new yarn, making sure to end the loop at the marked spot under my thumb and index fingers. Holding tightly at the marked spot, I pull to close the loop. When all is tight I let go and proceed to make the second knot anywhere, it doesnt matter where, since it will slide and lock at the position of the first knot, the place where the new yarn should start. I finish the other steps and cut off the yarn tails. I then go and finish crocheing or knitting the small part of the row I had unraveled and the new yarn will come in right where I need it to start for the next row... WITHOUT TAILS!!!! It is just so good!! The knot is small, very discreet, almost imperceptible, it blends right in, being also very strong and sturdy.
I don't quite understand this yet, but if it works it is much more useful. I rarely have to join yarns of the same color. Will keep reading and practice. Thanks.
Worked perfectly. And it’s so much fun watching the yarn ends just slide and slot together like that. They really won’t come undone because the opposite knots keep each other in place. Genius. Can you imagine how many other types of knots there must be in existence out there that we could use in crochet/knitting? 🥰 aww thank you so much for putting this video up! Sending you lots of love and thank yous xx
You are very welcome :)
You could just crochet over the ends instead of clipping so close to the knot. No weaving, and if you make the tails long enough you can use for repair later.
Cool, idea of crocheting the ends.
Thank you so much! I've been trying to search for a way to join yarn, especially in looser projects like grocery bags where there's no way to weave in ends and make they stay, and this looks fantastic!
GURLLLLLL I'VE BEEN KNITTING & CROCHETING FOR YRS & NEVERRRRR KNEW THIS!!! YASSSSSS!!! THANK YOU!!! 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
You're very welcome 😀
I’m making a huge chevron blanket! I really hope this works and doesn’t come undone. I have done it with stylecraft special dk. Thank you for this tip, love all your videos xx
I use the magic knot all the time. And it doesn't come undone.
Got to love this! Wish I had know of this technique, sooner. But now, I can use this on my current queen sized crocheted blanket project, with three colors. Thank you!
THANK YOU!!!! This is so simple. I love it.
This will make it so much easier for color changes or for afghans.
Amazing. I wish I had seen this long ago.
Six years later and I’m just getting into crochet and this is the most amazing thing ever lol thank you so much.
You are very welcome :)
That is an interesting way to join the yarn ends together. I like it. I even started joining my short scraps together (instead of throwing them away) and when there is enough length for a ball, I can make something with it. 🙂
that’s a fantastic idea!! i’m going to have to copy you :)
...aaaaand I watched this video just after I had finished my multicoloured shirt.... dang it! I still have that bumpy joins and dangling yarn ends... pffft...
on the bright side, it is a REASON to make another shirt and start practising this method! Thanks so much... :)

maybe you need to do a knot on something?
Its time
Does anyone know if the knots really don't unravel, or if certain materials do? I do this since it's so tiny (thanks btw, I love the technique), but I leave the tails and weave them in, because I'm scared it'll come undone after repeated washings.
I tried this today with acrylic and it did not unravel. Can't say with other yarns. Will get back to answer as I experiment.
100% cotton yarn hasn’t really worked the best in my experience
@@juliettesophia9007 thank you. I have not done this yet but was wondering.. maybe I do it like the poster above and leave the tails long to weave in. ☺
If you use really slick thread, it will slip out. The way around it is to tie triple or quadruple overhand knots instead of single overhand knots. It’s how we join braided fishing line together. You can search the uni to uni knot to see how it’s done.
@@jackfagan4093 oh thanks for that, will look it up. Just tried the magic knot for the first time today so hoping it will hold up ok, don't know how to weave In the ends so snipped them off.
I’m a beginner and up until now, too many color changes were a dread, but with this simple and very quick “Magic Knot”, it’s so small and has no tails, it’s just like a smooth continuation of the yarn! Thanks from Texas!
You're very welcome 🙂
I honestly know and understand how to change colors and add yarn, but I've never been a fan of weaving ends. I figured I would try this method once, and I love it!
