Another great and underrated Roland synth. Imagine something like this in the era of DX7, D-50 and M1. This synth alone could produce countless hit records. I only wish people paid same attention and enthusiasm to music they make, as like they criticize Roland. We can speak about pros and cons all the day long, but in the end this is a great sounding modern synth. We already have more power than what is necessary to produce the best possible songs and music. Prince, Peter Gabriel or Michael Jackson would easily make a big hit if they had this synth in the 80s.
Holy shit Woody, just had this on in the car while going through a car wash and it just occurred to me how amazing a player you are... Really amazing the lounge electric piano with bass.. 😮 awesome 😎
No, not shabby at all! Your comment about your own playing broke my a heart a little. You played so well! Some beautiful moments in there. Thank you. 🙂
Ps. I realized that I really cannot give up on playing the piano (properly) and I replaced Juno-D7 with Juno-D8. With all my other piano and organ VSTs, both Arturia (V Collection X and Pigments 6) and Native Instruments software, I feel that I have what I need. Thank you for all you great presentations Woody 😊
Marker 15:14 - Pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I bought my wife (she's a newbie - just started playing keyboards a few months ago) one of these keyboards a few months ago. Thanks for these excellent videos showing her just what this reasonably priced board is really capable of!
Well done Woody. Anyone interested in this machine will find a lot of useful information and sound demos on this channel. That said, I bought one of these and returned it after two weeks, mainly because I didn't like the sounds. The similarly priced Korg Kross 2 that I got instead is better than this product in nearly every way in my opinion, but it flies under the radar these days because it's six years old now.
@@WoodyPianoShack The only major issue I have with it is the complexity. It takes a really deep dive to master all the features . . . 152 pages of fine print in the Operation Guide, and a whopping 336 in the Parameter Guide!
What I love about Woody’s channel is when he plays these voice demos. The riffs and chord sequences I find so inspiring - maybe something Woody you could share with us sometime? That organ and drum arrangement sounded fab, as did the EP and bass sequence. The Juno-D is definitely a nice package and a great entry to Zen Core. Thank you again for making the video.
Thank you Woody! That was a nice demo and finally got to listen to that awesome keyboard. I could never afford any of those pricey toys. But can enjoy you playing them. You Sir, are a pro!. Blessings! P.S. Would have loved a tad longer video for this one for sure. Worth it every second to watch.
I really like this format where there is commentary about the features and styles in between the “no talk” demos. I find the “no talk” only demos a bit boring and lacking context. We need to coin a cool term for this format. Something like “commenstration”? No that sounds awful… “Talk and Play” perhaps?
Another great video Woody, thanks. I loved that first airy type piano patch and the harp-flute combo was really nice. I'm going to switch out my Juno Ds 76 for the D series 76 note and midi my Jupiter Xm to it. That should be hours of creative entertainment💯🎹
Excellent demo! I just purchased the Juno D7 and am really enjoying it. Much easier to navigate around than the Nautilus I used to have (now sold). Could you do a run through on the sequencer? The only bit I could do with some pointers on.
yes, i agree, the strength of this board compared to most others is ease of use. talking to roland about doing a deal to keep it, in which case i intend to cover the sequencer.
Great video woody! What was the song you played with the clavinet/piano combo? Was very nicely played😊 I still habe my fingers crossed hoping for that comparison to the fantom 0 😁
Thanks for this awesome showcase, Woody! It's still rather confusing to me that Roland used the name Juno-D for this synth, when they issued a synth with the same name almost 20 years ago. I own a Juno Stage (from 2008) that still does the job for me. So does my XP-30. I think this Juno-D falls in the same category: bang for buck. If I were to replace one of them, I would surely consider the Juno-D.
Great demonstration. I had an opportunity to try once of these recently. I was amazed at how unimpressed I was with the sound. As you showed there are a few really good synth sounds but a lot of the other sounds were subpar as far as I am concerned. I certainly wan't sold on it. It went on to try Yamaha, Korg, and Nord keyboards and they all sounded better.
4:07 Mr. Woody, I recognised the melody at this moment and I didn't expect it to really be Spectrum by Zedd, it's good to see that you play instruments with music from all ages. I was thinking about buying this exact model of keyboard, because my old PSR-S975 is about to kick the bucket after 6 years of hard work. Do you think this could be a suitable replacement?
@WoodyPianoShack Thanks for answering! I'm really waiting for the Montage M videos! I actually have a question in advance, in my PSR and I know that also in the newer PSRs and also in the Genos, there is a function called "Harmony" and I heavily use it because it achieves a fuller sound on stage. The only thing I don't like about Yamaha is that they like to cheap out in the keybeds, hopefully that Roland is sturdier than any PSR 😅😆
I once had a predesecor of the Juno D. It wasn't called Juno then. But it sounded so thin it wasn't even audible in a live performance. So I immediately got rid of it.
Hi Woody! A highly interesting video, as always! I still haven't decided whether I should buy a Juno-D6 or a Yamaha CK61. Come to think of it, at weddings here, they will typically have a real band playing and the keyboardist will rarely have only one keyboard. They'll typically use some kind of a workstation, the Triton and its derivatives like the TR being extremely popular, but also a stage piano. But what about a beginner / aspiring musician, must we all have multiple keyboards? I mean, it's like this whole new world opens when you learn something for the first time!! Before, I used to think 'keys are keys' but now I know that there are several types of keybeds, each for different instrument types and/or player! Hammer action being great for piano but a compromise when playing organ. Everything is a compromise!! I don't know, I am humbled by getting to learn all of this but I have to wonder, am I the only one confused about all of this? Sorry for the long post!! Cheers - Tunka
@@WoodyPianoShack Hi Woody! Thanks for the reply! My 'ideal' synth was a Fantom-Xa, the 'light' version of the Fantom-X which was Roland's top synth in 2008. The -Xa, like the -X, was very elegantly laid out, very much like the Korg Ttriton that you featured on your channel. I would have loved it if Roland kept this simplicity but the new Fantom-0 which is probably the modern iteration of the Fantom-Xa is so much more complex - there's so much going on that it's qzute dauning to just look at it! The -Xa was brilliant - 4 knobs to control the basic synth parameters and a pad matrix - no touchscreen and all very accessible and friendly. Roland seems to do fallbacks to past innovations well. The problem is they aren't doing much new. While I like my D-05, S-1, J-6 and Integra 7, it's hard for them to sell me anything new because I have much of what they have done and that's most of what they offer. What they have done in the past.
The Juno D is a great product at its price point, 1/3 of the price of a Fantom. If you dont need all that sequencer stuff and analog modeling and just want to play and record tracks in your DAW, its hard to beat. Not quite as many features as the MODX+ but half the price too. In my opinion if you get great acoustic pianos, EPs, strings, woods, and pads that's 98% of most sound making. I find that manufacturers like to stick 1000 samples into a keyboard that most people will never use because they are too niche or narrow-focused. Id rather have 500 that are what the bread and butter of music making.

Good ear. Discovered Tomita 30+ years ago as a 20-something. His version of 'Clair de Lune' was playing on a classical radio station in my car. I still remember the intersection I was at when I first heard that gorgeous, other-worldly ending.
I think the Integra was their "best of" synth, I have a juno stage, XP80, one takes JV cards, the other SRX cards, the Juno D is just a reprogrammed version of their old gear. I suppose they're trying to hit the mid range home market with this. Apart from a colour screen, it offers me nothing new personally. Your a great demonstrator though woody. 👍
@ Lol true, I will say that Roland's SH4D and my S-1 and P-6 all have great displays, but the way Roland handled the repair, they just swapped out the defective display with another defective display.

All in all though there are some very usable sounds on this instrument and the price is very agreeable!
Roland squeezes every dollar they can out of the loyal purchasers of their synths and other products. They are historically very unfriendly. I remember the Roland D-50 ROM memory cards and extra RAM card. Ridiculous prices at the time $300 (AU) for a RAM card that holds 64 additional patches in the 1980s???? Great products but the company has a reputation of price gouging and over the top profiteering (imo)

@@WoodyPianoShack I see this all the time. I am unable to find local friends in my city who are really into synth music. Usually people buy good synth gear but do almost nothing with it. In the internet people constantly blame companies for not producing good synths, but in turn they play poorly produced music with one finger and are too lazy to read the manuals. If people put into producing their own music just 10% of what big companies put into synths, we would live in a music heaven. I am so sick of seeing it all the time here and there, I am so sick of monotoneuos and boring 'SynthWave playlists', that actually this is one of the reasons why I learn how to really play the keys. I recorded 2,5 hours of short sketches with my JD-Xi since 2018 and want to develop them further into some finished albums, but need to really learn to play more seriously. Recently I've spent 8 or 10 hours learning to play Interstellar theme on a piano (still need practicing). Today I was playing Carl Czerny etudes for 2 hours after a full time day job.
My favorite channel for "hearing" keyboards. Keyboards are always best represented in sound by the skill of the performer.

All in all though there are some very usable sounds on this instrument and the price is very agreeable!
totally agree with all that!
Great products but the company has a reputation of price gouging and over the top profiteering (imo)
hello. How would you compare it with Roland Fantom 07. Is it worth paying extra or not?!

too complicated to answer in a comment, I hope to make video on the topic!
Fantom-0 is definitely the better deal. More functionality and the EXZ expansions are free for Fantom-0 and $20 a piece for Juno-D.
Hi
Thank you for your answer. It is impossible to summarize in telegraphic terms. So I am waiting for the vlog about the phantom '0'.

@@Jason75913How about Juno-D8 that has a better piano action?
@@mfurman Better than Fantom-08? It does not.
hi, few years ago, I watched many comparisons and older DS61 was noted as one of most inspiring UX for creativity (phrase sequencer), so one is here since, but time is FAR ouside; LyH816LxsHc dDCt6d3CZrM FeOnE8duHH8
Well that's not really much better that a Yamaha E463....I think anyways.
Great stuff but, all of it is available on Roland cloud so this keyboard seems to be reluctant 😉
PS; keyboard doesn’t have after touch 👎
Synths become better and better but people become lazier and lazier.
speak for yourself.
Thats a nice ring on the rhodes
