I was always very impressed with Pechalat and Bourzat. Unfortunately for them, they would always be third to Meryl and Charlie AND Tessa and Scott. But it doesn't take away their talent. So much better than Papadakis and Cizeron.. P/B are much more versatile than P/C. Time will show that Natalie and Fabian are the French champions!!
I always thought the french federation was seeking compensation for letting the sport throw PB under the bus for DW’s inflated scores, and that’s why PC suddenly shot from 13th place to 1st place in 2016 (because PC didn’t actually improve their skating in the year during their meteoric rise)
Politics always played against this team despite judges and tech panels used to love them. I had friends working for press and always heard things like "we loved PB but..." and political statements like "you know, we're in Russia", "you know, we can't say 'no' to canadians" or "we made a mistake" (this statement made after dropping them to fourth in Sochi) but never corrected anything or made apologizes. This couple should have won an olympic medal and a world title. The level of their PCs and skills were superior and more mature than Illinykh/Katsalapov, Cappellini/Lanotte and Weaver/Poje (judges never consider them over V/M despite the french were so close).
