Worst customer I’ve ever dealt with in nearly 10 years in retail was a woman who claimed she’d worked retail for almost 40 years before she retired, and now “I get revenge for all the times customers treated me shitty but being even worse every time I come shopping!” It was one of the only two times I’ve ever lost my temper and shouted “How the hell are you getting revenge on bad customers you had by treated people who weren’t even alive when you worked retail even worse than you were treated?! I’d think instead you’d have some damn compassion and try to be understanding, instead!” Her face got red and she must have realized she not only sounded petty and ridiculous but also stupid af and that I was right because she left without another word that day. That was about 6 years ago and I haven’t seen her back in our store since then. And I never got talked to about it so I have to assume she didn’t call anybody to report me.
The first story is just the damn worst, when a manager violates their own policy because they are embarrassed by a customer throwing a tantrum like a toddler. You don't cave in, otherwise they'll never grow out of it, you call security.
A customer accused me of child kidnapping, claiming I grabbed their toddler son by the arm and dragged him to the Information Point 20 feet away. Karen wanted the police involved and everything. CCTV confirmed she was lying, but a manager wanted to side with her! 10 years later, that manager still irks me.
First story: I don’t hate the customers. I hate the managers that cave and reward the bad behavior. Then they try and throw you under the bus when their boss asks about the incident.
Years back, when my daughter was in Kindergarten, she tried to tell her class what I do, and pronounced QC as coo see, and you think she at least tell the class I worked on missile batteries, but noooooo, she tells them what she picked up hearing me tell my wife and told her class my job gets me thrown under the boss, a lot!
Overheard in the Walmart breakroom from a Customer Service lady; So I finally said to her, "OK, mam, how about this, then: I refund your money AND gift you a new one, for free, and we Shoot the store manager and close the store. Will THAT make you satisfied?" From an ex-walmart worker.
I wish there was an update to the first story. SMH whenever I hear how managers have no backbone. I hope OP found something better than that hellhole called a job
I love the last story about the used car parts & the "genius" on his phone wearing dress shoes & his up scale car. I'm still grinning from ear to ear. Thank for the humor.
Any time I went to a junkyard for parts I would wear the oldest and crappiest clothes I had, which I used any time I worked on my car. Fancy shoes and shirt don't work in a junkyard.

One advantage of working in a big box store and dealing with horrible customers is that it is all on camera. Sadly, only the spineless managers will allow you to access it.
I had a guy in a major store, ( I was in customer service) and his coat had mould on it and was soooo old that the code came up as a one pence flower 🌸 pot. Yeah it was that old, and the guy wouldn't have it, could I find my manager hell no so I went to the mens department and told a friend who looks like a manager but was the department assistant manager. And told me to go and get my lunch and that he would handle the guy, never found out what happened after that.
You know what I hate about these, I hate when they end and then have to wait for another one to post later. LOL, by far my favorite channel on RUclips.
What’s a bit worse is when you’ve followed policy but management gives in to their ridiculous demands. I’ve absolutely refused to do the policy violation transaction & had the supervisor/management do it instead... because it ain’t my first rodeo & I’m not stupid.
My time in what could qualify as retail was as a bartender in our grandparent's tavern back in the late 60's/early 70's. I hated it. Granted, I wasn't even old enough to walk into a bar on my own and be served, yet I was stuck with bartending. Maybe that's why I never felt the need to hang out in bars. I don't know who to feel more sorry for, bartenders, cops, retail, or others who deal with the entitled.

My bosses humor even more scarier. Last year perfect example. Had a meeting with my co workers last year, like 40+ people, when my boss, whom at the time, did not catch his sarcasm on how well I handled a customer service issue. It was about a Karen, which the email I typed said I went off on them, which to me was not a good example of good customer service, but definitely well deserved. Problem was, that's not what everyone got, and why my boss and his humor, found it funny to let me know in front of 40+ people, what they did get. Message got changed after sending from I went off on them, to I went down on them, and my other comments just made it so much worse.
My boss just told me I either have to have a bit more caffeine before I start working, or stop watching RUclips in the morning. He just forwarded me a message I sent him 5am this morning. It not only didn't make sense, I called him Redwheel lol. He's a very nice guy. My boss and Redwheel. (I know, nice save) What happened was I sometimes type up a message to Redwheel ahead of time, this way I can quickly paste it during that small window he gets to read messages. Well, I must have scrolled down and continued my work in same email, and was still brain dead to not notice. (Me being brain dead, just to be safe. Well, hmm, guess if I'm not operating heavy machinery, being brain dead working can be considered safe?)
"I suggest you think very hardly if you want to still work here or not" *nod* I've thought about it. *^^* I quit, effective immediately with No 2 Week notice. *Surprise Pikachu Face* Moral of the Story - Never Eff with a Hard Worker.
