Hi Paul! I like those little 4 well tinting saucers, and “dust-free” erasers- I must’ve spend half my life sweeping rubbings off my paper before!

The best and cheaper mixing surface is the white ceramic bathroom tiles. You can buy them in packages, they have all the properties of a ceramic palette but they are also completely flat and as such easy to store ( even with some dried paint on them) and very easy to wash, they don't break and you can cut them in smaller sizes. So you can nave a little one at your sketching kit.

Yes, I've seen people using tiles before, and it's a really good idea, a bit tricky for me though as I would on an angled surface for both filming and to save bending my back too much, so prefer to have my paints on the same angled board. I know many artists do paint on a flat surface though, especially for those wet in wet washes where you don't wish to have a bead of water/ paint on your paper.
Now......where did I put those white tiles again............ LOL

@@TheDevonArtist I see ... but on the other hand the angled board is supposed to be for the painting not for the paints! How do you secure the round porcelain palette on an angled board? :)
Anyway.. the tiles are not suitable for mixing huge amounts of colours for washes, but for mixing accurate colour hues. They are completely flat and they have the properties of ceramic palettes because tiles are made by ceramic after all.
I have even thought to cover the surface of my desk with a couple of super large floor tiles, ( in white colour) because you can even cut with a craft knife on them without scratching their surface, they withstand heat not to mention that if I cover the desk with them I won't need a separate palette. I'll mix my colours directly on the surface of the desk and I'll wipe them out with a sponge towel. I haven't done it yet but I'm thinking of doing it. I 've just need to find the right tiles. I'll probably glue them on the desk with a silicone glue that is very strong.
I 've saved my back by switching to a floor desk. I modified a very steady rectangle coffee table that I had to a desk and that saved my back because when you sit close to the floor you can place your legs wherever and how ever it is more comfortable for you and along with your legs goes your torso too. So you are not always on the same sitting position and you don't have to bend over the desk in order to paint.

@@creativecolours2022 I use anti-slip matting on my angled painting board, which works perfectly. 😁

@@TheDevonArtist Wow...That sounds like a great idea. Do you use any particular brand or all kind of anti-slip mats are the same?
I'm asking because I'll probably try it on my board.

@@creativecolours2022 I don't use or prefer any particular brand, I just for anything on a roll from a cooking shop or hardware store. They are mostly black or white. 😀

If you're having trouble finding a ceramic palette go to the kitchen and get your deviled egg serving platter..

That's a brilliant tip, thank you Nancy. 😀
