The only reason everybody knows these nowadays is because NYC was the beginning of hip hop music which is now today’s most popular genre which dominates social media feeds. Everybody has access to hearing other people’s slangs and accents now. But trust me if you go to nyc....the way New Yorkers say “mad”, “son”, and “deadass” sound real different and 10x more frequent in one conversation. We say “son” in dc and it don’t sound nothing like how they say it in nyc, but we know where it originated.

As a NYer that worked in Philly for a while I have to respectfully disagree. There are a few similar words but not really. My homies in North Philly thought I talked mad different and a lot of the slang they used was odd to me.
