Just wondering if we put this straight inside the pond by putting some stones and bringing it to the level where we want it to be… I mean that way we don’t have to create a gasket or anything…. I guess it should work the same way. Correct me if I’m wrong
Great question! It is holding up great. No issues in the build quality. 1) I think a bigger opening or multiple openings would work better. I try to keep a quarter inch mess netting over the opening but in the fall, the leaves can clog the opening quickly. The gold fish also seem to find their way into the box as well at times - no harm to them, but I’d rather they didn’t get in there. Haven’t figured that out yet. 2) this set-up doesn’t adjust well to changing water levels of the pond. During dry spells, the water level can go down leaving the filter useless till I add water or God does. 😃 I’m sure there is a more perfect pool filter design out there, but I’m not in a rush as this system I have is passable, just not perfect. Hey Joseph, Water is SO pervasive, I think the gasket of Lexan is necessary. You could try tape, but personally, I don’t think it will work long term. I did not just use the Lexan gasket but also used the marine sealant. I think the gasket would also fail w/o the sealant. Do you think you would need a gasket if you used seam tape to seal around the opening? I would use duct tape around the hole first to soften the edge.
