- Right where I figured it might happen, it did.. Not a good start to 2020 for the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad after this train derailed 3 pulp cars in East Kingsford, MI this morning. I watched it from my kitchen window and saw it suddenly just stop, I got dressed and went outside to investigate..
They spin the wheels on this locomotive trying anything to move forward or in reverse, but nothing it happening. Upon closer inspection, 3 pulp cars were on the ground about 5 cars behind the engine. Now I have to be careful they don't call police on me again!

@@tadheath5856 It isn't on my end, all my videos are as big as they are supposed to be. YT has 3 sections to view, sounds like you don't have it in full screen.
@@jasonasselin oh....yes I do...i have a Samsung Galaxy s8+ and had it for almost 3 years....I know how to use it....ur next video popped up as full screen....I went back and they are still small...but the new ones are full size....thanks...
@@tadheath5856 I'm not doing anything differently. Strange.
@@jasonasselin then contact RUclips and figure why you videos are small....ask other people if it's that way on theirs too.......? Few people said it was small.....so get ahold of RUclips...cause ur doing some great videos!!!!! You made me feel bad when you said ...people are watching but not subscribed....lol....so i did....lol take care!!!
I am surprised they dont derail more often the entire track needs to be replaced. You should call the NTSB telling them how dangerous this track is.
If you want to get closer, approach with a tray full of coffee!
No shock to me this happened. Hopefully they will fix this issue before someone get hurt. Thanks for sharing this Jason!
When are they going to figure out that the old dilapidated road bed just can't handle the load and volume they are sending across ancient rail.
If they spent 1/2 the Time Repairing the Roadbed Vs. Hassling you, they wouldn’t have any more Derailments. 😬 👍 🤪
Jason We ALL Hope that You Will be able to Video Them Rerailing the Car's back onto the Rails Awesome Video Thank You
Hope so!
@@jasonasselin Thank You for the Reply and All of Your Awesome Video's
Great video Jason. Always love watching
I'm amazed at how neatly the wood is stacked/cut on those pulp wood cars. I've never seen one in person, that's impressive. Almost like it's loaded on the car, then cut!
I had this happen to me one time with my bachman train set. circa 1984
Gotta love the logic of throwing it into notch 8 in ice and snow.
Yup - divits on the track and flat spots on the loco wheels.
Another great train video Jason but of course I’m bias, you’re GREAT. Would love to live up here
If they are calling the cops even though you ain't trespassing they are are probably more concerned about being filmed.
If they have a lot of track problems they won't want bad publicity scaring customers away.
If that was the case, boy did they mess up.. lol
I thought that guy was going to push the train back on the track! Jason don't get to close or they'll call the cops again!
I don't know what the RR is so uptight about in the first place!
@@davenelson9253 it's a mix of both them being afraid he'll somehow damage the train.
And the possibility of him getting hurt and suing them for it... and sadly the latter is something people would actually do, even if they're the ones at fault.
@@davenelson9253 They're just embarrassed by they're dilapidated railroad, they don't like being video taped and put on RUclips for all the world to see, they could also be suffering from TDS (Trump Derangement syndrome), if they are Libtards.
The RR was probably like this long before trump.
I dont see how it can be trespassing. The township plows the road with tax payer money. I looked it up on Google Maps and it looks to me like a public road. You should check with the township officials and look at their tax maps. Awesome video!
County says the RR "allows" them to plow the road.. ha ha
May be your best video that you have no worries on !! Please keep them coming
Maybe it is time to invest in a Drone to get those nice and pretty close-ups. I'm sure they will add to their claim that they own the air space over the rail line as well and report you...again. Don't worry. When the police arrive to discuss, you can inform them that you don't believe if UFO's.
I love your videos and you bring me back home to Michigan! Thanks!
Great Catch, Jason! 👍 Thanks!
It gets better! Live premier coming!
Love your pictures love your train videos be careful all them people call cops on you ❤️
NEW VIDEO TONIGHT - They got them back on the tracks with just hand tools and the locomotive.
They need to do repairs to the rails and ties so something like this never happens again I'm just glad the engine didn't tip over
Chicago Terminal has lots of street running. When they would derail a car they jammed wood under the wheels and yank that sucker back on the rails, but they didn't have ties to deal with.
@@oldrustycars most street railroad has ties under the pavement, unless it is set in concrete panels.
@@charlesgreathouse7376 Chicago Terminal may have had ties under the street, but when a car derailed the flanges just hit concrete. To me, a person who has never rerailed a train car, it seemed easier as the car was still on the same level as the rails. They typically derailed when there was dirt and debris packed in by the rails and the car rode up on it.
@@oldrustycars you are right, if there is no track damage, they can rerail easily as you saw.
Profit driven + Poor maintenance = Derailments...! BTW....great video.
I told you that rail was in rough shape by your house, this was going to happen sooner or later. Maybe now they will put in some new welded rail by your place with a good flat solid base?
You know Jason if the train offered rides to Mass City Michigan and back to your town for $100 per person they would have some extra money to fix those rails by your house 🤑 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃 🛤
good catch , sad but good . Keep us all up to date on the RIGHTING of the cars please, thanks !
This is what you get from deferred maintenance!!! Weekly derailments at the same location... Look up Guilford Rail - Deerfield Yard... for a great example of deferred maintenance...

RAILROAD CODE OF 1993 (EXCERPT)
Act 354 of 1993
462.391 Obstruction of vehicular traffic; offenses as separate violations; penalty; allocation of fines.
Sec. 391.
(1) A railroad shall not permit a train to obstruct vehicular traffic on a public street or highway for longer than 5 minutes at any 1 time, except the obstruction shall not be considered a violation under the following circumstances:
(a) If the train is continuously moving in the same direction at not less than 10 miles per hour for not longer than 7 minutes.
(b) If the railroad can show that the incident occurred as a result of a verifiable accident, mechanical failure, or unsafe condition.
(2) A railroad shall not permit successive train movements to obstruct vehicular traffic on a public street or highway until all vehicular traffic previously delayed by such train movements has been cleared.
(3) A railroad company shall not permit its employees to allow the activation of active traffic control devices at a railroad grade crossing for more than 2 minutes if there is no intention to move a train or track equipment through the crossing within 20 seconds to 60 seconds after the activation of the devices.

nice video bro
What did they hope to accomplish by pulling and shoving? Were they unaware of the derailment? Love your videos.
I teally appreciate you gor posting these videos. I've never been to Upper Peninsula. One of my cousins lived there for several years. I think they moved to Escanaba for Job transfer.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Had to subscribe just for the northern MI accent... I miss it. Grew up in Pontiac and went up every fall to hunt near you. It's so nice up there!!! Thanks for the great vid!
Amazing how locomotives that can weigh between 390,000 to 432,000 lbs can be crippled by a derailment. Trains on the tracks are dominating machines with awesome power.
Love this video !! Thanks for sharing !!!!
Nice. You must get a drone. Then you can fly over a derailment. Love your videos
I wouldn't be too surprised if the ELS goes by the way of the old Rock Island railroad. Old equipment on dilapidated rail means they are just barely scraping by. Milking it for all its worth before going bye bye.
Having seen a lot of your videos, I am only surprised it hasn’t happened sooner or more often.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thxs Jason nice video, do those people come too work with a hard on or is the snow? I have never met RxR people with such an attitude. Is that a SD-45? on the side saw something that looked like.whats all the wood for???
I feel bad for the railway and yet remind myself that this section of track has been neglected. That's a small railway that will take this hit pretty hard.
One of the best videos from SD40! :)
great video liked the railroad needs to replace the rail tires now !🚄🚄🚃
You think they would check the air in the tires more often! lol just kiddin.
I think this railway company is hoping the track is going to fix itself. 🙏🙏🤪
I had a hunch that this would happen after seeing a number of your posts with rail cars rockin' and rollin' along this stretch of track. The last time a trained derailed there was when I started watching your stuff. I remember the crap the RR employees gave you. How long ago was that, Jason?
Last year only.. lol
Visited your tracks last October
and see WHY those trains rock & roll over there
Yup, too cheap to repair the rail/ties, ballast, IMO.
Yup! Looks like a job for Herzog!
I wouldn't say "too cheap" - they only have a limited amount of money and have to spend it where it will do the most good. Just like you and me - we only make a certain amount and have to figure out how to make ends meet. The railroad is no different. This line apparently doesn't have enough traffic.
Well once the NTSB gets wind of it, they'll either fix it or have some ridiculously low speed limit, and or be shut down until they bring it up to a minimum standard.
It already looked pretty slow. Putting equipment on the ground is always serious. Who knows what they will do ...
@@kleetus92 All their money goes into wages and lease equipment. They don't have nearly enough traffic to maintain the road bed.
Thanks for the video!!!
Is it just me, or does this railroad seem to go on the ground a lot?
Ha! That's right! Good thing SLR has no derailment be side one in 2009 but that's the only derailment SLR has right now.
Jason It's now 2023 have ajtredy subscriptied to your channel and enjoy your videos keep posting and I will surely keep watching form Jerome Idaho
"Uhh Hey boss, you won't believe this, but..."
Again???? I am gonna fire the ones responsible! ...Oh, it's meee!
Law enforcement might say you were walking on the roadway, but I doubt they can do you for trespassing on railway property again. Good luck, regardless! :D
If this happens a lot here why don't they fix the tracks?? Isn't there a fine for blocking the roadway?
Just like I said a while back...derailment just waiting to happen !! What no free firewood ???
Kinda makes me glad i work for UP😁😁😁
Great lakes had a loco on its side south of Gaylord yesterday as well. Stuck at work and couldn't get a picture.
Seriously they report people for trainspotting in the US? And the police even bother wasting manpower, time and effort on that? That's pretty awkward.
An excellent video. ♡ T.E.N.
Super video train
Jason, ya done good.
Watch the premier coming in minutes!
Penn Central Jr in 2020, Houston we got a problem...
The train waddles. I bet that the reason they called the police on you for trespassing was that they don’t like being filmed. The Supreme Court ruled that you don’t have a reasonable expectation of privacy when you are out in public.
Railroads are extra special. There's weird laws on the books that allow them to extend railroad property when cleaning up an accident.
You heard it here first! WOW.
Wow, nearby 18 minutes of filmomg and they didn't call the law. I'm not 6subscriber but I knew I had seen a few videos on this line and your relationship with the RR. 😱
I'm from NJ and shouldn't really gravitate towards upers but thanks for the interesting videos.
That is what they get for not maintaining the rails !! Being cheap doesn’t pay !! But it makes a great video!! To show cheapness !! Congratulations on sharing dollar cuts that try to make PROFIT !!!!!!
Yes be careful !
Call R J Corman! LOL
...or Herzog!
Or hulcher service
I've spent a relatively small amount of my life working outdoors. Isn't working outside great?
This was s what I want to see as well as the ROCKIN!!
Oh, yeah. Spin the wheels. Is that a recommended practice?
I thought it was cool though.. ha ha
@@jasonasselin It sure is. It can also severely damage rail.
They need to replace the track with a new one!
We all know this was going to happen, they could have repaired that track last summer now in the middle of winter with a foot and a half of snow they will need to repair it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your sharing
Maybe they should replace the steel wheels with truck tires .lol
What’s wrong with their tracks. They seem to always be having problems?
Hmmm. Makes me wonder after they rerail the cars and clear them out, will they fix the track and roadbed right or will they just throw on a few guage rods and spikes and let 'er fly?
@George Nelson management of this railroad must be the children of the folks who managed the Milwaukee Road in the 1970's. Carrying on a bad tradition...
You would think as much traffic that goes down those tracks they would spend some money to fix them
That track's been trying to tell em for some time
Lol "Give him a push"
The railroad should invest/build a fence that runs the length of the entire road so they can keep you off their property and block you from taking any videos, or maybe they should just fix the tracks instead...LOL.
Even with all the weight of the loco you have to remember there is only a few square inches of contact with the rails.
If you’re Roadbed is in that Bad of Shape, then Why Overload these Pulp Cars ? NO Sense! 🤪
Lucky the roadbed didn't give way and make the cars roll over on their sides.
It is now 7:25 PM CST on Jan 8...have they moved the train yet?
Yes. It left finally around 5pm. I didn't film today. Too cold.
You would think that they would fix the problem by now. I guess not.
I'm surprised it hasn't happened before now
Do you think it's time to fix the track? Rerailing these cars and engines must be costing more than resetting a few rails.
They really need to fix those tracks..
The Money it's going to cost to Have someone come out and Repair the Rails they could Have Spent the Money to Raise the Low Joints so that the Cars would not Rock Back and Fourth so much and come off the Rails what a Waste of Money what a Foolish Railroad Sound's to Me like Somebody is Pocketing The Money and Not keeping this Railroad Maintained The Way to Keep a Railroad going
They're not paying for it, the tax payers are.
Can you just use proper capitalization?
I think karma has bit them hard for harassing you. Instead if giving you Hell why not get those tracks fixed so they won't have anymore derailments.
Change ur settings to get a bigger picture....please!!!
Cool.
On the 6th a train derailed in Otsego County Michigan... what the f%$# is goin on ...
Who originally owed those tracks MILW or CNW?
The Milwaukee Road.
Thanks for sharing have you tried to make a mends with the railroad? They really need to fix those tracks one of those lumber cars is going to fall on its side one of these days and then t hey will have a big mess on their hands, LOL
this railroad looks like they have alot of problema
This what happens when they put the money in there pockets.
So true
Iv'e derailed a few times in my day... it happens...
Careful they don't call the cops on you. lol
Why'd they call the police?
good video
They need to replace the rail ties aswell as the rails and also re-grade all that gravel, I forgot what the rock they used is called but yip
Ballast
don't get to close as we saw before they fast to call Johnny law man
