I’ve discovered the reason for Porsche’s high production costs. Whenever I watch videos of their assembly plants, the workers are never seen assembling the cars. They’re just lovingly caressing them with a soft white cloth. That won’t get them built. 😂
I remember how back in the 1960's (and before) everyone in the USA wanted a Cadillac. Then they cheapened the product, lost sight of the market, faced increased competition from the Europeans, and had their lunch eaten. Now they have barely any market share.
They knew this was coming, and ignored it, like most legacy car manufacturers. This is there death spiral, it is a shame but the writing has been on the wall.
Let's just look at the New Macan. In Australia, the top versions cost over $200,000 and they don't even include a heads-up display as standard..!! EVERYTHING is an option and EXPENSIVE. I heard on CarWow that in the UK even the rear side-impact airbags are an option.! ARE THEY KIDDING.??? This is ARROGANCE as an Artform, and the Germans are in the process of paying for it, because it's time it was called out for what it is.
If US dealerships weren’t so greedy with additional mark up fees more people would buy the brand. My local dealership wanted 30k over MSRP for a new 992 GTS and 50k over for a GT3
No need to apologize to anyone because you can‘t do correct pronunciation in a foreign language. As a native german speaker i don‘t feel offended by Porsch instead of Porsche. Keep up your excellent work 🇩🇪❤️🇦🇺
Porsche had it coming. Arrogant company. Same for all the other European sportscar brands selling flagship models to insiders only who flip them to collectors for double the price who don't even drive them. If I were ceo I would sell an electric 911 with twice the power and half the price. Let everyone whobwantscone, buy one, just like tesla.
Its very unfortunate to witness these events. Nobody like to lose jobs or businesses. However, its a fact of life, that you need to keep improving and innovating - otherwise, you become a relic of the past; such as the typewriter
While Porsche has never been cheap the requirement of X amount of options on a car, particularly 911s on already inflated prices is insane. Artificially making GT cars scarce so you have people fighting over allocations has cause buyers with actual cash to go elsewhere. Leaving speculation to run rampant
Porsche needs to completely downsize to a niche market producer of ICE sports cars using next generation liquid fuel, no EVs. I had a 911S for 30 years, great car , but in 1970 they only imported 66 S models into the UK RHD market. A great small manufacturer of hand built cars.
If I was in a position to buy a Taycan, I wouldn't hesitate personally. The way I see it the whole selling point of their brand is to continually refine their products and the best example of that was the recent refresh that improved range, performance (charging and acceleration) and slightly reduced weight. If all people wanted in life was the best bang for their buck then Coles and Woolworth's would go out of business as everyone would shop at Aldi and Cosco or in this case just buy a base Tesla Model 3 or Y and call it a day.
I'm thrilled Porsche is in trouble. When the dealership is telling you that if you want to buy one of those NICE cars... well you'll have to buy a bunch of other cars first... Perhaps a couple of Taycans etc... Then we'll possibly put you on "The List" which says that you may get an allocation some day in the future. if you don't kiss our butt buy buying many cars... forget your dream car. Any company like that... they can shut down. I'll be happy. Tesla. Anyone can go and get a Model S Plaid, get the upgraded package and have one of the fastest cars in the world. ANYONE who can pay, will get one. No kissing Butt !! Porsche make nice cars but I will not support a company like that. Goodbye Porsche! I won't miss you.
911 is only about 20-25% of their sales. It’s far more than the Taycan that’s struggling. Although, yeah, not fielding a compelling BEV bodes poorly for a future outside being the “911 hobby car” company.
It's part negotiating tactic with unions and market realisation re China. Porsche will need to right size. But it's advantages in style and driving ability are strong. They just need to price their EV same as their ICE rather than with a premium.
How do you know the competition is actually better. Yes, Porsche has a high price, but they have a history whereas the Chinese brands don't (not to say this is worth excessive add to the price, but it is something). I've also read (no actual experience) that Chinese build quality is not that great in cases. I can give an example of this: I compared a Volvo S90 to a Mercedes-Benz E350. The assembly quality is noticeably better for the Mercedes-Benz and the price doesn't vary that much between them.
Taking the long view, it is hard to avoid the impression that we are going through a similar event to the switch between horse and cart and the automobile. The legacy auto makers now are analogous to the cart makers at the turn of the century circa 1900 and the new EV makers to the auto makers of that same period.
The EV Porsches depreciates so badly. And they're not an engaging vehicle to drive. Plus you forget their racing programs. That's what makes people want the brand.
In Thailand, Porsche has slowly become a symbol of money laundering activities. Money launderers here with dubious businesses will think of buying Porsche first things first. 😂😂😂
Have you seen how much it costs to employ a German worker? Multiple times that of countries like China and a lot more than the likes of the UK, Spain etc.
I currently own a Porsche Cayenne and an Xpeng G9 Performance. The G9 is better in almost every respect: technology, UI, comfort, features, build quality and performance. It also about 30% cheaper. I understand why Porsche is having problems. I like their cars a lot, but electrification is clear example of disruption for brands like Porsche. It’s difficult to justify huge Porsche premiums in an EV world. The only Porsches I would buy right now are new/classic 911 or a used, high end Taycan model. Their prices for the new EV Macan are what the kids would call “delulu.”
going EV was big mistake Porsche made , Porsche customer doesn’t want EV , they want powerful ICE engine , with strong growl … btw , it’s not PorschA or Porsch , correct is PorschE , with E like in Eco or Enter
Agree. This result and current situation was so clear to me an unsophisticated observer. I wonder why they continued down the EV path. I’d also bet money EVs will not reach the 2035 market share the experts are predicting. Most places don’t have the infrastructure to support the power demand. I remember in 2017 when we were told self driving would be here in 2020…
In my opinion Porsche has to divide its lineup between internal combustion and EV. The 911 to just drop the turbo and AWD version and concentrate on a N/A lineup that consists of a RS version and a more sedate weekend/daily version. Cayman the same as the 911, cleanup the model lineup with a view to full EV later on. Everything else dedicated to EV, have EV architecture that is used within the whole model series to reduce development costs and manufacturing costs. Invest in reducing the stages of manufacturing from raw materials to final product and decrease the assembly times. Invest in manufacturing plants that primarily run off renewables and battery storage. Get rid of the “fat” in the workforce, the people that are there just because, having a vague idea of how Germans work I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of “fat” that can be cut off.
So you're saying even luxurious car brands in Germany are suffering (the ones who are not supposed to suffer from high energy cost: A 300k-dollar car is not that different from 350k-dollar car)? So what is left that Germany still has then?
I bought a brand new Porsche in 1969 and another in 1983. I just went shopping for a new 911 but the price put me off. I’m probably going to buy a Tesla. Faster, half the price, longer lasting, safer.
First of all, .... the unions do not own the company. If the company needs to close factories, that's their right to do so. If they wish to build new factories in Mexico, that's their right to do so. If they tell the workers that in order for the company to stay in business all workers must take a 10% pay cut. The workers have a choice, they can work at the new pay scale or find a new job. I have no sympathy for the unions, especially when they think they control the company, ...... they are "employees", not owners.
This video has made me realise that Porsche cannot survive the EV revolution. Their main appeal is the magnificent engine that the wealthy are prepared to pay big time for. Put an electric motor in it and there goes its main selling point. Now that overall fit, finish and general body quality can be matched by the Chinese makes, what is left that Porsche can use to make their cars appealing?
Their suspension-handling is sublime, exquisitely balanced. It’s definitely more than the engine. However all those decades of experience with tuning the cars does assume ICE power train via the thrust & mass distribution coming with that. So they need to rebuild that, losing some of their built-up edge.
Exactly. So now they install engine audio to make it sound like a real engine. Thats like ordering an elite escort just to find out its a bloke with a wig and make up.
It is tragic. But we are a nation of thinkers. So, people at VW, start thinking. Get your heads spinning. Find solutions. Beside Germany and the UK begging for Business from China, China isn't doing that well itself l. 1.4 billion people needs to be fed. With export down and manufacturers going out of business, you can only expect luxury brands not being sought after. Sales for Rolex and LV is down doubt digits in China. What goes around comes around.
The whole world is waking up to the luxury brand nonsense. 1.4 billion people and 500 million of them are middle class and richer that most Europeans never mind the poor old US.
I owned 3 porches. Now I drive toyota hilux trucks and am happier for it. German cars, BMWs, Audi, Mercedes, VWs, and Porsches are no longer viable. Nice to look at, but a dead end
There is an issue with borrowing and debt the second is bench marking their product at premium prices against the upper end of Tesla cars as the base. Tesla has been selling ordinary cars post early adopters paying premium their cars in Europe and USA with subsidies from the government in protected markets. Porche will see themselves as selling their cars for the most basic models at a 20% mark up to Tesla and their own petrol car but the expectations of the customer is a slight price increase from the petrol car not a $20000 price differential. So what would all the European car companies and Tesla do : lobby their government, use fear of a jobs meltdown, encourage protectionist policies like tariffs, ask for more subsidies and bail outs, ask for the government to mandates for ev use to change, try and introduce hybrids as a stopgap . Then use dirty tricks no one attack the quality of Chinese’s cars, steal technology from the Chinese manufacturers, lie about their products such as performance and quality which they have done before. For the owners while that is going on continue to pay themselves dividends and bonuses award themselves loans etc and write them off as bad debts and commit fraud by hiding losses through false accounting and internal transfers . Book paper profits on revaluation of assets then retire. Then there is good old bribery band corruption all politicians are for sale through lobbying and overseas bank accounts. These people have not developed new markets and models for the rest of the world and are in full retreat. Germany is really going to be bad due to the cost of energy. Btw America has trump and Elon musk has his ear and I expect musk will opportunistically seek the destruction of legacy car makers. But I am guessing that all car makers have grenades of undiscovered debt in their balance sheets
if Porsche need to ave cost the only close all Germany factories and move to China and use their technologies it will boost sell & create net huge income (Chinese love these car so much)
It's fascinating watching how battery tech has improved over the years along with charging tech and time. Lithium batteries were first used in 1991 and look how much better they are today, a mere 45 years later.
Here in the US I've always heard Porsche pronounced Porsch. Also, I recently learned that Hyundai is properly pronounced just like Sunday with an H like Hunday.
@jessicayoung1190 yes Jessica!! Ford just lost 170 million from their stupid EV production that was just shut down! GM lost 230 million! Since Dodge announced only EV charger's will be built they are now filing chapter 11!!! Shall I go on you ignoramus! 🥴😊😵💫🪓🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why buy a 911 for performance when a Tesla Plaid can smoke it 0-60? Why buy a Panamera or Cayenne when a Tesla Model X or Rivian can annialate those as well 0-60? Porsche is in trouble.
Most UK people pronounce Porsche the same way as you do in Australia, once Governments realise 2030 is unlikely to happen and allow car companies to ease up on producing EV's that no one wants to buy. The infrastructure is never going to be in place.
That is a UK problem, I really can’t be bothered to go into the detail but the UK is in a death spiral of its own, I’m British born and lived there for 3/4 of my life. Everyone in the UK is going nowhere and they are thrilled to death about it, no investment in anything, every town is dying a death and turning into a shit hole and just about everyone is happy to see it happen.
I'm confused. I understand there is only one Earth and only one atmosphere. In order for these battery Cars to be zero emissions, that would require a big exhaust pipe to extend up from places like Africa, to outside Earth's atmosphere. That because very large equipment, running on diesel and gasoline are used to move 100s of thousands of tons of earth to make these batteries. By any chance, is this "Tube" thingie, that Musk developed, the needed tailpipe to make this whole production zero emissions? Just askin'
Everyone is comparing how much cheaper Chinese evs are BUT no one is talking about their reliability and most important safety! Have you ever tried to put new Chinese battery in your phone? How reliable is it?
They are better quality and safer and cheaper and THAT is the problem for the old legacy automakers. Many people only say they hate Chinese cars because of racial prejudice.
No matter what Europe states like in the US there isn’t enough electricity available nor infrastructure to supply all the cars if internal combustion cars are band. The only plausible solution is a true hybrid where a small internal combustion engine continuously keeps the electric motor, which drives the car , charged. This will significantly reduce emissions no electric charging infrastructure will be needed since only the gasoline engine will require infrequent fill ups. In the United States, if started immediately, will take 35 years to build an electric charging infrastructure throughout the country and that precludes building power stations to supply the increased electric demand. The environmentalists in the US are not allowing any further power plants to be built in many states which at present can barely supply the residents’ requirements and some states like California are forced to have rolling blackouts and banning EV charging during high peek electric demands. EV’s built in China are lower in cost due to slave labor, no pollution control and the west turns a blind eye to these conditions. The labor unions in EU as well as in the US must tailor their demands to be more competitive but can’t and should not acquiesce to the levels only achievable through slave labor human rights violations and lack of pollution standards. Electric vehicles are less recycle able far more polluting to the environment due to the battery composition and far more costly to run and own due to their extremely high depreciation .
Every house in my neighborhood already has electricity. The most people need for their daily use is 3-10kw. My EV charges on less kw load than the cooker or clothes dryer. I’m waiting for my utility to offer an off peak tariff.
I’ve discovered the reason for Porsche’s high production costs. Whenever I watch videos of their assembly plants, the workers are never seen assembling the cars. They’re just lovingly caressing them with a soft white cloth. That won’t get them built. 😂
Porsche doesn’t even let you bug a GT3 RS unless you’ve bought something before. 😂
Lots of plastic and crazy electronics .......increased pricing........ Gee what could go wrong............
Thanks to our german Gouverment!!!
Maybe the owners need to be accountable for ruining the company.
Actually Porsche is pronounced “bang-kruhp-see”
They priced themselves out of the market.
Wakey, wakey... After only fifteen years at least...
Frankly Porsche has been ripping off its so called customer ( victims ) for many years
I remember how back in the 1960's (and before) everyone in the USA wanted a Cadillac. Then they cheapened the product, lost sight of the market, faced increased competition from the Europeans, and had their lunch eaten. Now they have barely any market share.
Yet rated higher than the Germans by Car & Driver
And to think they sneered for years at Britain for not manufacturing cars anymore.
how can they habe so much debts and think they will be ok at the end .... `?
They knew this was coming, and ignored it, like most legacy car manufacturers. This is there death spiral, it is a shame but the writing has been on the wall.

Actually, it's outright corporate greed on the part of Porsche. Prices for their vehicles and the options Porsche offers are highway robbery.
Teslas compare most favorably against Porsche and has stolen their market with superior technology at way lower prices.
Top Turbo version? In Singapore the base model costs SGD$350,000. Very basic options too. The Macan EV Turbo is half a mil here.
If US dealerships weren’t so greedy with additional mark up fees more people would buy the brand. My local dealership wanted 30k over MSRP for a new 992 GTS and 50k over for a GT3
The dealers do it because they can. Porsche buyers gladly pay it.
No need to apologize to anyone because you can‘t do correct pronunciation in a foreign language. As a native german speaker i don‘t feel offended by Porsch instead of Porsche. Keep up your excellent work 🇩🇪❤️🇦🇺
I listened to Tony Seba, seems like 10 years ago, knew ice-extinction was coming. He underestimated the battery price plunge.
Porsche...will never go out of business...never....ever
I think the normal carmakers are having a nokia moment= too long in the lead to slow to adapt
Hey Porsche, remember when the Swiss refused to make electric, digital watches?
Buying a Cayenne when for less money you can get a Rivian Rs1 is insane
Rivian would be closed down if the Chinese were allowed to sell in North America
I like your pronounciations my friend
Porsche....depresiation at its highest and finest!😂😂😂
Porsche had it coming. Arrogant company. Same for all the other European sportscar brands selling flagship models to insiders only who flip them to collectors for double the price who don't even drive them.

Costs in salaries IS NOT the problem since their prices gap is way larger than 7k vs 2k....
Put a stick shift in. Program the car to drive like an ICE, and the sound system with, y'know, squealing tire, and engine noises.
I'm sure you can buy a toy car that does that for you.
Sam it’s your show call em what you like.
time to rent a garage and start handing build a Porche...
i would never buy a Porsche... unless it was a 911 full BEV.
928 EV RWD or AWD.

Porsche has no problem selling every ICE 911 they can manufacture, it’s the Porsche EVs that have layed an egg.

My German cousin pronounces them Porshees.
Things infringing and nipping at Porshe's heels for much cheaper and as fast (except Turbo S) are the Tesla 3 Perf and the Corvette.

Unless i can charge my car in 5 to 10 min (same time to fill a gas tank) I will NEVER buy a shitty EV. Ever…
I go to public chargers maybe 3-5 times a year. The other 350 days I plug in at home or work while it sits for 9-12 hours at a stretch.

Boooosh!
Let's see if the Chinese EVs are still working in a few years. Hopefully the quality brands will be able to rebuild themselves.
It's too late to get into EV market .
German car industry was finished once Mercedes decided in 1995 to make poorer quality cars for more profit, the rest followed and then - Diesel gate.

These people have not developed new markets and models for the rest of the world and are in full retreat. Germany is really going to be bad due to the cost of energy. Btw America has trump and Elon musk has his ear and I expect musk will opportunistically seek the destruction of legacy car makers. But I am guessing that all car makers have grenades of undiscovered debt in their balance sheets
if Porsche need to ave cost the only close all Germany factories and move to China and use their technologies it will boost sell & create net huge income (Chinese love these car so much)
Porsche is closing dealerships in China .
Por-sha is the German pronunciation. In the US (and apparently in Australia) we say Posh. Love you podcast.
No we don’t just people who don’t know
It is definitely not correct to end it with an 'a'.

EV car sales are crashing at a rate of 3:1 to gasoline engines! By by EV junk!!!!😮😂😂😂😂😂
Where are you getting your info.listening to the bull thats put out by your the media.ev sales growing worldwide except germany
Any link to your bs .
Keep butchering the names...it shows how out dated these BRANDS are.
Just askin'
Who gives a toss how you pronounce Porsche. stay focussed. jesus.
Well said👍
Everyone is comparing how much cheaper Chinese evs are BUT no one is talking about their reliability and most important safety! Have you ever tried to put new Chinese battery in your phone? How reliable is it?
Tell us how to put a battery in a Chines phone .
iPhones and iPhone batteries are made in China. Is there a quality issue.
They are better quality and safer and cheaper and THAT is the problem for the old legacy automakers. Many people only say they hate Chinese cars because of racial prejudice.
The stupidity of EV and the even more stupid financial speculation on the transition
