Destin, why do you keep blaming only Parson and not the *entire* board of directors at Bungie? They are just as responsible for the current state of affairs as Parsons. The CEO of a company cannot do anything major without the approval of the board.
The future is subscription services. X box will have to make some sort of changes for x box owner’s subscription price… to get more console sales. Make it cheaper on console and pricier on pc. If you want better hardware sales.
I don't know how often you read these comments. Would you consider the steam deck a success? It's sold 4-5 million units, xbox series is a failure around 30-35 million units sold. I'm sure Microsoft would rather sell more consoles than they have, i know valve would love to have 30 million steam decks. In the end the console is just another vehicle to sell software and subscriptions. Xbox's revenue was higher than it has ever been. Even if they didn't see any growth, it doesn't mean they aren't profitable. I don't know if you can quantify the effect of not having any major releases either. Maybe you see a sharp increase in console sales when they start releasing more first party and third party gamepass day one content.
I think a lot of families are still on xbox one and PS4 hardware... so the cross gen games are still selling, but consoles aren't selling like one would expect. When the global economy is taking a nose dive a 500usd gaming box might not be high on the list of priorities.
Well, I'm sure Pete Parsons and his ilk will not be getting their golden parachutes at the very least regardless of Marathon doing well or not because they screwed up that badly. If I was Sony, I'd be firing them publicly so they get blacklisted from the industry for what they did.
They should just shut them down now and move as many developers as possible to either existing or newly formed studios within PlayStation Studios, even if it means creating a new studio to handle Marathon. There is no saving Bungie at this point. They destroyed themselves.
@@urazz7739 Pete Parsons ALREADY got his golden parachute. When they sold to Sony he made boat loads of money. He's already got what he wants. That's why he doesn't care that the company is failing. He can head off into the sunset with millions and millions of dollars.
It’s not Bungie of Halo anymore my dude. It’s just another greedy ass company digesting its own staff to fill its appetite and it’ll go down to a skeleton of its original self.
Xbox fans have been echoing Phil’s words like parrots for years now in saying the console or console sales doesn’t matter, and yet they aren’t able to explain why or what would take its place. Microsoft moving away from the console market is a bigger deal than ppl think.
On the console front: Yes, I care about the console. Xbox is where my friends are, it has better integration for me when I game with friends. It's the place where my friends are, so that's where I am. If things change and Xbox goes away, then I guess we'll need to find an alternate? But that's why I prefer the console and why I've kept buying and playing primarily on my Xbox. My other take on the console sale issues has to do a lot with the economy at the moment (I think). The USD is in shambles, we're seeing massive layoffs all over the place, and inflation is going crazy. We don't have as much money as we did pre-COVID either. That makes a difference.
I am on PC now so it doesn't really matter to me anymore but seeing as we are 3/4 of the way through this generation why would we expect to see anything other than hardware sales decline at this point I'm pretty sure anyone that's gunna get in on this generation has already jumped in so with new consoles targeting a few years from now I don't really get why ppl are thinking this is a big deal
From my understanding the vast majority of game pass subscribers are on the console so if they stop making consoles wouldn't they lose subscribers when the new consoles come out?
does not matter if its a loss, gotta stay in the market. with so few console manufactures leaving the market concedes your entire base to your other 1-2 direct competitors. xbox = xbox home page and ads, a built in consumer base. to hand over all physical consoles to sony / nintendo would also destroy competition and make sony more money, they can put out whatever they want and everyone has to buy it, its all there is. or look at it this way, they bleed sony just as bad as themselves by staying in the market, and mxsft can afford it, sony cannot. thats probably worth it enough. plus the slump is industry wide because everyone is broke.
LMFAO ! Destin titled this to attract the most hardcore Xbots ever, hoping to see bad news for Sony. Then promptly told them the truth about the Series consoles, enragement ensues, & we here for it lol
I dont think comparing yoy sale makes sense this far in to a generation... imagine a game release that sells better in its 4th year of life without updates or expansions when a successor is due inside of a years time. Also, hardware is never the money maker, unless you're nintendo selling 5 year old hardware the day it releases. So it would make sense to pivot to actual profitable sectors like games and services on a investor call. Its not your not spitting facts, its that you premise it with the possibility of Microsoft leaving hardware.
15:29 yes... yes it makes sense! They are building such an insane momentum! They have JUST created an absolutely staggering IP ownership. All the big franchises of the last 2 decades are now owned by Microsoft... If they spend the rest of this generation getting xbox content onto every medium via gamepass. Get the brand name into the common man's vocabulary, then hit with a fantastic console/handheld with a massive advertising push, and they could potentially break that playstation lead, by cutting Sony in their most vulnerable areas (such as their recent live-service games push that has already slapped them in the face via concord)
They said the next Xbox will be the most advanced not the most powerful what that means I don't know probably AI but we'll have to wait and see but I do think that if this console doesn't sell well that's probably the last Xbox console that we see at least for Microsoft
I think Sony had a good week, they can keep the developers for the IP they want, (i feel bad for those who lost jobs), and they get rid of management that was horrible. Imagine Bungie with the same quality as Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Santa Monica, or Bend. Now put that quality behind Bungie. All gamers win.
@@minchtree7019only one of those is actually a Sony game, the others are all made by 3rd parties. When you fanboys of any of these companies make lists like this you pretty much admit you have the intellect of a 14 year old.
Sony should just shut down Bungie and move as many staff as possible to studios inside PlayStation, be it existing studios or making new ones. Perhaps mostly as support staff to help their studios make games quicker. There is no way to save Bungie at this point, even if they swallow Bungie in PlayStation Studios and get rid of the board of directors. It has destroyed itself.
If doesn’t matter at the end of the day. They committed to another generation, so that’ll come. There may not be another one after that. PlayStation, in their recent long term strategy conference didn’t even mention a next generation, beyond the likely PS5 pro, at all, so it’s distinctly possible that Xbox will outlast the PS in its hardware offering in 10g. Xbox will have a 10th generation, because Ms Bond has said so, repeatedly. PlayStation hasn’t even publicly committed yet to a 10th generation. Neither platform holder will likely have an eleventh generation physical console. The 10th will be the final under tv console, and it could conceivably be a Xbox-only generation, for all we know. It doesn’t matter how many PS consoles Sony sells if each marginal console loses them money. If I had to guess, Xbox will come out with their 10g console and it’ll be a glorified, low cost PC with a hybrid APU capable of running stripped down windows (and hence Steam games) in 2026, as reported. PlayStation will see how that does before they decide to either forego a 10th generation device or copy Microsoft, with a souped up version of a hybrid machine in, say, 2028. There will not be a next generation after that, unless you count console equipment built into next generation tv screens. To me, though, there is value in these platform holders figuring out how to greatly reduce the cost of PC components for these hybrid “consoles.” What does a matter your console isn’t a dedicated gaming device if it’s a super easy to use and performative machine for $500?
@dusermiginte4647 even with less mau's, they still make more off their users. Which means playstation players are spending substantially more than xbox players
