I am besotted with the class 57, locomotive, I see them regularly at a couple of the GWR depots, they are referred to as ‘Body Snatchers’ as some were converted from class 47 engines…..😎🤓

Nice video - thanks! Not many places passenger trains get manually coupled up now. I was wondering if this ever happens with class 455 on SWR? Probably in the depot only.

I think this train normally has a unit on both ends to not have to do this at the platforms, the other ones I saw on the weekend all seemed to. I think any of those multiple units all have automatic couplers so they can join/split without someone having to climb down between and manually hook up, but happy to be corrected if this coupling up move at Paddington is normal practice.

@@sjgardin Thanks. Last time I went on the Night Riviera (in 2009) it only had one loco, so this coupling would have been normal, unless things have changed now. They trusted it not to break down! I guess the sequence you showed would only happen in the morning. In the evening it would arrive from the depot with a loco at both ends, and leave one behind when it left for Penzance.

SWR 455s can still get coupled in Waterloo - not often, but it does happen

It happened on Tuesday 16th April 2024. It’s the GWR -Great Western Railway 🚃 that previously came from Penzance via Truro, Plymouth, Totnes, Newton Abbot, Exeter St Davids, Taunton, Newbury and finally Reading. It’s called The Night Riviera and runs daily and public holidays except Saturday evenings, Christmas 🎄 🤶 🧑‍🎄 🎅 Day and Boxing 🥊 Day. The carriages are first class accommodation that has slam doors 🚪, luggage 🧳 rack, toilet 🚽 🚻 🚾 , comfortable seats 💺 💺 💺 💺 , beds 🛌 🛏️ 🛌 🛌 🛏️ , a carpet and rectangle windows 🪟 🪟 🪟 🪟 🪟. 👍

That's no good to start with this... Always time running late arrival like few minutes late. Because of the freight train only one of this train running ferequest normally take too long runs on time! It should be used to put two freight trains place of front and at the back to create a run together to goes to. Not only one of freight train. Always leave runs became late!
