I've been looking for an easy way to collect the rainwater. I just had a new roof and leafless gutters put in. I have 4 downspouts that can be used. 2 are in the back of the house. I have an overflow outlet from the bottom though a U bend and into the drain . So the collection tub water gets fresh water when it's nearly full and pushes out the old stale water in a roundabout way . I also have 4 x 205 barrels on standby to connect up in a SHTF situation

This is a good collector, but if you close your collector with red nab water licking on the wall because it is not be-able to come out.
How did you secure the hose so it wouldn't pop off if it rains hard?
It seems the majority of the water would need even go into the diverter for collection. No?
I think if you just open the lid on the trash can and set the trash can in the yard you will probably catch more water. LOL
