A rollicking good concerto, full of sparkle and pathos, moments of high drama and moments of peaceful reconciliation all mixed together with great skill and panache, and a gentle and almost lighthearted overall atmosphere to it. Composed late in Gernsheim's life, in 1914. During the Nazi period, his music was banned in Germany and works by and about him, including the Holl biography (1928), were removed.
