I'm not a fan of cutting up old handiwork, however the project did lengthen its lifespan if it was going to be thrown out. On the other hand, it was constructed originally as a tablecloth, so how durable is it going to be as a handbag? Still, a person doesn't have to automatically think that their handbag will have to also be used for self-protection or withstand a windstorm. So, yes, it's pretty, and the idea is cute. And, there was a lot of ingenuity i.e. thinking power, that went into its construction. If you had a boutique shop, it would fetch a nice sum. But, I was thinking, it might make a nice christening gown, added to another tablecloth design, set in resin for a cutting board, or a one-use function. But, I don't know if there is any special sentimentality associated with it, either. Still, it's pretty and a cute idea.

Yes, that is a very useful idea. To recycle old linens and give them a new life. Otherwise, they would be thrown in a landfill or burned. This way, you keep them and admire them and honor the people who originally made them. Thank you.😊

عمل يدوي بالكروشيه، في قمة الجمال والاتقان، كما انه يبقى لسنوات طويلة. لذالك لا يستحق تقطيعه بالمقص. مع كل احترامي لإبداعاتك الرائعة. متتبعة من 🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿.

For a random piece of old and scruffy crochet that you or your friends/family didn't make and that you have no sentimental attachment to, this is as good a use as any. However, what she has made is not to my taste (particularly the dish cover which I think is pointless - the holes in the crochet are too large to protect the food from flies or dirt) and I would have thrown the tray cloth away without a single regret.

Fallo con tessuti vecchi. I lavori all'uncinetto sono ANTICHI. Vecchi non lo diventano mai. Sono pezzi d' Arte e non si tagliuzzano. É da pazzi.

@@angienines3821 dici bene, é un sacrilegio. Ho trovato, giusto una decina di giorni fa, dei lavori ad uncinetto piccoli, degli anni '20 dello scorso secolo. Hanno quindi 100 anni. Non me lo sogno neppure di tagliuzzarli. Ho deciso che quello un poco piú grande, 0,25 per 0,15 cm. , Lo metterò tra due vetri, con una cornice, tipo quadro, e sui due lati corti della cornice, che voglio in legno, ci applicherò due manici. Li troverò in qualche mercatino. Insomma, farò un vassoio, non sarà grande , certo, un piccolo vassoio per bicchierini da rosolio, ma sarà molto grazioso, in linea stessa col concetto di offrire rosolio, che nel 1920 si usava. VERY innovative. I like doing things like this too. Reminds me of a good friend. What she did for a family of four with 1 chicken. Day 1. Roasted.Day 2. Cold with salad. Day 3. Sandwiches. Day 4. Aspic with Vegetables. Day 5. Soup. With Matzos. It's good to be resourceful.😉
Cutting up those beautiful old doilies and table runners just about broke my heart.
I still have doilies all over my house. My house is beautiful because it is cozy and warm feeling. My couches have arms, my chairs are plush, rugs define rooms and seating areas, my lamp shade have fringe and my artwork is framed needlepoints and artwork of mine. My China is old and there are lots of Asian touches. It’s not for everyone but it’s not stark, cold, and void of personality. Such peace!

Для чего "всё в хозяйстве пригодится?😂 Из мусора шить мусор и захламлять пространство?))) Вы что вот так чай по утрам пьете -с какими-то нелепыми мизерными тряпочками по всему столу?))) Для чашки есть блюдце, а в магазинах продаются контейнеры с герметичными крышками для выпечки и не нужно какой-то тряпкой накрывать да ещё и времени тратить на бесполезное шитье!))Да и собирать эти тряпки, стирать и отглаживать -то еще занятие...

Pure vandalism! Destroying a year of fine work of preserving an old French curtain pattern from the 1810 exhibition of industrialized world machine inventions. Now no curtains and no machine only some "cloth" made from memory to destroyed by such "crafty artist wannabe". With hand about a year to make a piece size of this for a housewife of the past, and that was the inventions for to have mass produced version...until someone needed beer coasters!

Gee, I thought the original piece was cute and charming as is. But if anything, i would have folded it in half to keep the motif on each side intact, and created a nice little purse with a lining. Without chopping it up, keeping it intact, and displaying the original charm of the design. Guess I'll have to do some RUclips of my own.

Осталось выбросить сделанное..... А можно было бы привести в порядок салфетку и пользоваться ею.Например,в рамку под стекло и разместить на кухне.
Дрянь какую - то сделали, и радуются... Удивительно, что отзывов восхищенных море. Попробовали бы лучше с нуля связать. А так, нарезали, сляпали, все вкривь и вкось. А зачем оно - непонятно.

Второй жизнью можно было бы назвать в том случае, если бы салфетку отстирали, отбелили, обработали края и нашли применение. Можно было бы поместить в рамку под стекло и украсить стену. А так испортили вещь. И чего все умиляются? Недалеко то время, когда выбросить придётся сделанную ерунду.

Love these! With a proper backing they would make wonderful wall hangings. Thanks s much for the tutorial! And one other comment, several people have made remarks regarding cutting up old linens and lace. I can't see how that's a wrong thing to do when you take something unused and turn it into something beautiful that will still be treasured.. I am making some wall hangings from some things my Grandmother made. I will think of her daily and admire her wonderful handywork.

Those doilies were in perfect condition. If she just knew how long takes to make one of them, I'm sure she will not destroy them like that.
She is not recycling old wore out doilies, she is destroying something in perfect good condition.

I agree with Ilona, this is butchery of beautiful workmanship that could have been added to other fine needlecraft pieces to make a Victorian Quilt, with a pretty pastel shade of backing to the crochet or lacework then the whole backed by good wading & finishing with a good quality victorian linen sheet or pretty candy stripe blanket.
This would have been an Heirloom piece!
What she made from the little cloth was hideous & ugly & what the heck was the point of it?

Ive made beautiful cushion covers with lace/ crochet etc trying NOT to cut it to ribbons

I have some if that lace dress my grandma. I think she put it over a tablecloth. I have no idea what to do with it, so I’m glad I found this.
I wish I had this music to listen to and sew without the tension in my only machine that works (out of 4) would behave itself.
Personally, I wouldn't cut an ancient lace dress in bits and pieces at random like she does, destroying it forever.
One of the possibilities would have been to remove the seam all around, have a new seam and use it as a center for a table, just placed on top of a rectangular piece of material of a contrasting colour. So that the ancient (about 100 years old) object is intact.
The way she cuts through patterns all along and even more so for the last object is just heartbreaking.
If you truly still have your grandma's wedding dress, keep it safe in a box, show it to your children, then to your grandchildren or sell it to people who will truly appreciate it and won't cut it irremediably into awful bits and pieces. What a pity.
