  • @StudioRevoct
    @StudioRevoct 2 года назад +1

    Ultrapro kept getting worse with most of their products, back in the day their yugioh sized sleeves were pretty durable, and their textured deck boxes were pretty solidly constructed. Their sleeves nowadays break just from shuffling, and their boxes are way flimsier than they used to be especially compared to Ultimate Guard or Gamegenic's same style boxes. Even the Dual deck box which I used to like is mostly discontinued, while I think other companies have made versions of the box now.

    • @benallmon5613

      I know this video is 3 years old but it is weird seeing him say Ultrapro is a premium sleeve. Seeing as now they are cheap sleeves and rip real easy. Ultimate Guard Katana and Dragon Guard are now the premium sleeves. And I refuse to use anything else. And my Gamegenic box is so worth the money. Can bring 2 decks and my dice too.

  • @YGOTolley
    @YGOTolley 5 лет назад

    I 100% know what you mean with the miscut sleeves, I get this with ultimate guard sleeves and had it before with Ultra Pro sleeves likes 3 years ago, it is frustrating to have like 15 sleeves go to waste because of miscut and then your 2 packs of 50 sleeves you have 70 and not 100 which is kind of fine in the grand schemes of things since you only need 55 really but if you needed 75 for 60 main + side or 40 main + 15 side + extra you are kind of screwed. It is highly annoying to just throw away sleeves because they are miscut a lot.

  • @aurafox1
    @aurafox1 5 лет назад

    The primary purpose of card sleeves, aside from differentiating your own cards from your opponents', is keeping your cards from being considered marked due to damage and tearing around the edges. Having subtle differences between your cards is undoubtedly using marked cards. This really can be a huge problem for competitive play.

    Ultra pro are inconsistant, some packs of sleeves are miscut some arent, regardless of being eclipses or not.
    Dragon shield are the best although I have to say I had some issues lately due to the sleeves being too small for the cards, I mean the cards fit but you kinda have to force them in and it doesn't feel good at all, especially with the super slim and floppy European print cards. The only solution is to widen them up beforehand using 2 commons together, works perfectly but you shouldn't have to work on your sleeves after you buy them.
    Ultimate guard never gave me problems but the feel doesnt hold against dragon shields, but that's a matter of opinion

  • @reddragonstudios1
    @reddragonstudios1 3 года назад

    When it comes to yugioh especially judging, some judges will be super petty about miscut sleeves and typically give you either a warning or a game loss because they can consider it as deck stacking. Thats why I personally dont use Ultra pro sleeves for competitive use, more so collection use

    As an avid user of Ultra Pro Eclipses, I am looking for an alternative since about a month ago. I have had, and used, the same set of sleeves on my main deck since I got back into Yugioh last June. They still shuffle, play, and feel great. But since they are so old, I want to make sure I don't get called on it for tournament play, I've been having to pick up a fresh set of sleeves recently.
    Compared to all the Eclipses I've picked up over the past year, the new sleeves are visibly different and the deck's core cards now standout from the new sleeves I've picked up since the turn of the year. Not only this, but for the first time, out of about 15+ sets of these sleeves, I have had multiple sleeves crack after only a month of use. This is insane in my mind when compared to the durability of the year old sleeves.
    I've been waiting for Ultimate Guard's new Katana Line of sleeves to come out in small size (Japanese size, as mentioned in the video) and will test those out before deciding on migrating my collection over to them or Dragon Shields. Hopefully Ultimate Guard can use this as an opportunity to take advantage of their competative's fault and capitalize in the premium sleeve market.

    Speaking of cards floating to the top of sleeves. Ever since I’ve seen deck profiles from yugitubers I have noticed that nearly all of them always have their cards near the top of the sleeve and are rarely ever pushed all the way in. I’ve been trying to look for a reason for this, but I’ve had no luck. Is there a reason to not push your cards all the way to the bottom of sleeves?

    My only guess on Ultimate Guard not saying Yu-Gi-Oh on the box is because it could be used for different games with same-sized cards. Their website mentions it's compatible with Yu-Gi-Oh, DBZ, and Naruto. I imagine it could be compatible with some board games as well.

  • @Rowrin
    @Rowrin 3 года назад

    Only 1:30 into the video and I knew it was going to be ultra pro. I use to use them a lot for MtG as they were pretty cheap to pick up if I didn't bring any at a draft or sealed event. I had no issues with draft/sealed decks since they don't get played much if at all after the event. The few standard decks I built with them had several split sleeves after some use, to the point I always made sure to have a couple extra on me at any given time. I bought 2 or 3, 80 or 100 sleeve packs (i forget exactly how many sleeves, but enough to sleeve 200 cards or so) once to sleeve up a small cube and like a third of the sleeves or more were miss-cut to varying degrees of 1-2mm. It was kinda insane how inconsistent they were.
    Edit: lol yeah, exact same issue, horribly miss-cut sleeves.

    yea I started to have this problem all the time, so I switched to dragon shield matte and non matte. the front side is always clear the shuffling feel is just different. I use matte on my main deck and non matte for the extra. Works beautifully

    UltraPro always like splits in half after a few months for me, and are often miscut between two packs of sleeves. In my experience at least.

    Don't know if you'll read this, but your experience with Ultra Pro is pretty interesting actually. I use the exact same sleeves you do, but none of mine are miscut. The ones I checked were from several different packs and bought over the last 6 months too. I do live in Europe though, so maybe that's a factor? I don't know where UP manufactures their sleeves and whether they have different sites. Maybe I'm just lucky.

    As someone who has been using sleeves for a few years as well, I would really recommend Ultimate Guard as well. Up until now, I've used Ultra Pro matte sleeves since I don't mind the front display of the card looking a little frosted so long as they're readable and safe. Ultimate Guard however, just has better quality control in my experience and is better for my wallet.

    Honestly I've had this same issue before deciding to swallow my pride on the matte finish and use eclipse sleeves. I also like that you can't see through them at all because some non matte sleeves are a little translucent through the back.

    I never played much competitive back in the day and admit to being a mostly casual player. Towards the end of when I played the paper card game I used the most beat up cards to play. Cracked, bent, frayed, water damaged and just generally faded. It was funny. There was concern at a locals that I was cheating. But after examination it was determined my whole deck was just this beat to shit puffy paper pile.

    KMC is basically matte sleeves. The back has a texture that won't make it slip. I like KMC's but using Ultra Pro Eclipse Pro mattes to match my deck box and setup. But side deck is still KMC

      Jimmy pretty sure that if you’re running extra deck cards in the side deck you’ll have to run the same colour sleeves in all main side and extra decks
      Having different coloured sleeves in the extra deck is optional but having the same coloured sleeves in the main and side deck is mandatory according to tournament policy
      Pretty sure nobody would bad an eyelid at locals though if you had an extra deck coloured sleeve in your side deck but if you wanted to do that at a tier 2 event, ask the head judge before the event because getting a game loss for marked cards during a deck check for this would be ridiculous

    i may be in the minority here but i actually enjoy the slightly tinted finish on the front of pro mattes. in multiplayer magic formats (where i use them most) it feels like a little extra protection against hand peelers.

    I know the miscut thing was a common issue with early runs of Ultra Pro Eclipses.
    Personally, I'd recommend trying out Dragon Shield sleeves. While I'm not a fan of their standard-size sleeves for Magic, I love their smaller sleeves for Yugioh. They even have matte sleeves *without* a frosted front if you want the matte shuffle feel without the slight fogginess.
    Also I'm not surprised that Ultimate Guard has a line of sleeves that are basically just the old Ultra Pro sleeves, since they *also* just released a line that's basically just the old KMC Hyper Matt sleeves

    I have that issue too. UltraPro is what I’ve been using since the beginning of the card game, but lately I noticed that the sleeves have been very crude, there’s a noticeable downgrade in quality for me as well, but I still really like how they look when used, cards do look really foggy for most other brands, which can make cards a bit more of a pain in the ass to read. Really sucks that they’ve been slacking with their quality, because I absolutely love the color variety they offer.

    The matte sleeves are good for cutting down glare. It’s all preferences, mostly. Anything outside of their eclipse line tends to have that problem. The old dragon sleeves from 2006-2007 were awful when it came to inconsistency like those ultra pros and there were a lot of ultra pros that were backwards.

  • @devastatheseeker9967

    There should be regulation sleeves that you have to use in tournaments. There are a few cards that go into your opponent's deck so as long as your opponent has different sleeves they can just activate something that shuffles their deck to make sure they don't draw the card (although these cards don't really see any play as far as I'm aware)

    I use Dragon Shield for my decks but all my spare Super Rare+ cards I usually keep in clear Ultimate Guard Sleeves. They're pretty slippery but they work pretty great. Where I'm at they're usually cheaper than Ultra-Pro sleeves too by like a buck, but stores hardly carry Japanese size of them. :/
