Just do what feels good to you and allows you to sing and play through that portion of a song or any song in general. If it sounds good to you then it is good and it will only get better with time. Thanks for stopping by Bobby
Well I usually don't do recorded versions because you never know what is going on or what tricks have been added in. I always look for an acoustic live venue to do a lesson from. That being said this was one of the first lessons I did but I don't feel a need to do another lesson on it but you should feel free to do so. Thanks for stopping by, Bobby
Thanks for the feedback. This was the first lesson I ever did and I did a couple this way and then changed to what your saying. I do it differently now and start with a demonstration and then break it down. Thanks Bobby
I will have to check it has been a long time since I did this video and it was one of the first I did. Brantley always changes up his tunings to half or full step down so you are probably correct. I have both of my guitars tuned down so I will try to remember to see if it matches up. Bobby
I seen your lesson a few times and had been drinking a bit and never got it but this time I'm there. Thank you and I don't know if you could get any better. Have a good one and I'll be looking for more of your videos. Thank you again brother.
@RdrB67 As you can see in the beginning of the video I am only strumming the chord once and singing which would be a beginning type situation where a guitarist is learning to keep time and switch chords. As you advance your strumming hand will come alive on it own and will do what is needed out of it. I don't even really think about my strumming hand my mind knows what the sound needs to be and the hand does what it can to produce that. The chord hand however has a specific job.
@BOBBYALLENBIFANO I'll stay tuned. I've only been playing for about two months now but I've gotten pretty far in that amount of time. I'm getting pretty quick at switching chords and finginering etc however Its tough to make it authentic
Finally a guy that can play and sing and TEACH with real simple descriptions and communication skills for anyone that wants to learn. I appreciate the lesson...thanks Can you show your skill with Tim McGraw Better than I used to be...
@matty0084 Well now when you say finger picking I think of playing with the fingers and plucking out strings with individual fingers. Picking in general with a pick uses the same techniques but there is definitely a difference in the style and sound. I am just getting ready to do a video on strumming and picking should be up in the next few hours.
If the chord hand is off then the song will generally be off but it will not be as easy to detect differences in the strumming hand. I will think about doing a video on strumming tips and secretes which will be beneficial in the advancement of using your strumming hand. I am going to see how this lesson goes over and if there is a demand for more lessons as I generally learn a few songs a week and move on. My advice is just get the chords down and strum what feels good and it will come.
@RdrB67 I will however in the next lesson make sure that you can see my strumming hand as well. I was in a small area for this one that is why it is not in.
@bulldawg28 You got it always try to get back to people and I always look up their requests and listen to them even if I can't get to them. Don't ever hessitate to ask me a question if I can help I will. Bobby
@BOBBYALLENBIFANO Finger picking videos did help some. Getting better at this song. The chorus has me a bit challenged, perhaps when doing videos go slower on fast finger switchingand strumming patterns. Having a bit more difficult of a time getting the chorus and whatnot down, trying to rememer the order and trying to keep up fast while singing it haha. Appreciate the good efforts!
RdrB67 @RdrB67 I don't have a related video on the picking hand. I have seen other tutorials where they show a caption box with the picking hand in it but I don't know how to do that yet. One thing I would tell a beginning guitarist is not to worry so much about what the strumming hand is doing. New guitarists always ask that and want to know the strumming pattern. The easiest way I can describe it is like this the chord hand belongs to the guitar and the strumming hand is yours.
dude best tutorials, easiest and clearest to follow, honestly, I'd like to see fretting hand at times, I'm actually working on "my kinda crazy" also by brantley and its a pretty tough one
@r34skylinegtrbhp Well I am glad to hear that you picked up the guitar and have been playing for about 2 months. I have been playing for around 20 plus years and I am still learning everyday or time I pick up the guitar. After you question on strumming yesterday I am preparing to go and do a strumming lesson right as we speak. That has been the major area of questioning so I thought a lesson would be helpful. Should be up on my page in the next few hours.
Ohh that is a hard question my pick is going pretty fast at that point dont know if I can just section out that little bit into a down down up for you. Strumming is just something that comes natural with time and I just do what feels and comes natural with the song I am playing and I encourage all players to do the same. My advise is first check out my Learning center where I show the techniques I have learned to play my chords of 20 plus years. Then>
@r34skylinegtrbhp Your right and that comes with time and knowing which chord uses which strings. As you play over time you will realize things like if your playing an A Chord if you pluck the 2nd string down (open) then you strum the strings below that. The same is true for every chord and I call the first string I pluck a base note. If I play a G chord then I pluck the top string and then strum the strings below that, D chord pluck the 4 string up (open) then strum the 3 below it.
It that an FP-360sc. I know it's off topic, but if so... I have that guitar and it's one of the best build and sounding guitars I've ever played. I've had it for over 20 years. Nice tutorial!
@r34skylinegtrbhp Every Chord I play like this unless I am doing an outright hard strum. You will in time develop these skills and begin to understand with each chord there is a base note to pluck and sometimes there is 2 base notes you can hit and then strum the others. The strumming is also a controlled and gentle motion, delicate. If your not subscribed to my page you might want to think about it because in the future I have planned a lesson that will go over this things we are discussing.
Good help. I've been figuring it out... come up with a lot of different ways... what you may not be addressing is the e flat tuning... I've been trying to do it in e flat with drop d tuning... doesn't work so well... but with e flat... pretty well captures the song... I'm not quite satisfied lol. Thanks man. Good lesson.
@ATrexOfficialSite Disregard my last message if it went through to you I was thinking of another song. It is possible that he is tuned down one half step I don't think I played with the album cut.
@BOBBYALLENBIFANO looking forward to the finger picking help on the chords. because all i can do is the basic strumming. i you tubed some finger picking and seems there are different ways. i can see in brantleys videos he seems to do a similar finger picking throughout his songs. maybe thats considered his style. I dont have the skills to pick out the songs and watch just the fingers doing the chords and figure out hte strumming. I deff need a 101 on finger picking.
When I play I hit what I call root notes or base notes (foundation notes) and then I strum and pick on what I refer to as filler notes. I do this on most of my playing and all chords have base notes and filler notes. If you go to my learning center I cover 5 lessons on this and I think that it would be beneficial if you check them out. Wish somebody taught me that years ago. Let me know what you think. Bobby
@ratherBtrainin Thought you were throwing Bible Verses out at me unitl I checked out the Video at 3:09. I saw that when I reviewed the video when I put it up. Pretty Funny thanks for checking it out. Saw your video in the store nice job. Bobby
This is all good for when he plays acoustically...but the recorded version is C#5, E/C#, F#2/C# back to C#5 for the intro. You should put up another video tutorial for those who want to play it in the proper recorded state...let me know if you want the remaining chords for this song. That said...this is a great guitar tutorial, I like how you've covered the basics for the beginners without overcomplicating learning to play the song with a bunch of theory. This is a great campfire song :)
Hey, definatly would be helpful if you could post a follow up video on your strumming patterns and tricks to make the song sound more authentic. I feel like as your strumming your picking out certain strings to emphasize or isolate and I'm having some frustration on making it sound like the real deal. Definatly one of my favorite songs
i was wondering if you could write the chords down for the chorus part. (where he starts to say from his wranglers) i am a beginner and id like to know how to play this song, i just started getting a lil confused when the chorus came, i couldn't match when you changed for what part, is there any way you could write the chords down with the words? so i could see what chord goes to which word in what patter. that ok?
You should pick a strum pattern that allows you to sing and keep time and that will be dependant upon your skill level. I do have some videos that I think will be helpful to you in building your strumming skills and the lessons cover the skills that I have developed over my 20 years plus of playing and shows how I play my chords. You can find the lessons in my learning center on my you tube page. Hope they help you and let me know what you think. Thanks for checking in Bobby
One other thing... you might consider numbering your videos so we can watch 'em in order in case there's something you show in an earlier one that is referenced in later ones.
@bulldawg28 I will try to getone out on it but do me a favor put your request on my You Tube Comments section because I leave those up and it reminds me. I have been getting so many requests lately that I am asking people to do that if they can. I have to clean my inbox out to keep up with things so that will just help me out. I will try to get it up been getting a lot of BG requests working on a lesson for You Promised at the moment. Thanks Bobby
Great job showing the chords and progressions but I don't have any idea what the strum pattern is. It sounds like you're strumming at times and picking at others. Especially for the Chorus. Is it just one down or up strum per chord change. Please clarify. Thank you!
Tony Strumming is a skill that comes in time and to be honest to tell you what I am strumming would be near impossible, however I do have some lessons on strumming which will give you secrets that took me 20 plus years to learn and I wish that somebody had shown them to me. You can find them in my learning center and they will give you the basic Idea of what I am doing here on that lesson and always. This is an old video and when I do the newer ones I do show my strumming had for people to see. Just keep at it, it comes with time and is more of a feeling that comes natural than and up down up down logic. Thanks for stopping by, Bobby
@coldchinesefood Hello Cold Chinese don't recognize your name sub up if your not so I can find you easy. As for the strumming I put up 5 videos on my You Tube page under Learning Center. I have an introduction to strumming and then go over G, C, D and Em. Those are the most common Country Chords being used today an I teach you how to play them as I have learned over the past 20 years. Check them out and you be a much better player. Let me know what you think. Bobby
Jason you should go and check out my learning center (My You Tube Page) because I cover strumming techniques which will really help you out and answer a lot of your questions.
play the basic song first then later on do the more advanced stuff could confuse people jumpin around while your teaching the basic chords great lesson though
