    I recently purchased a 98 gmc with 6.5 detroit and you said vegetable oil and water methanol? I didnt know that can be a substitute for diesel as this is my first diesel as I've build gas engines with my grandfather and an very familiar with them ive branched out to learn about diesel but besides that ive been using pump diesel for the duration of owning it but i plan on making it a very reliable truck in due time

    • @SixFiveTurboGaragecom
      @SixFiveTurboGaragecom  4 года назад +1

      Hey James, the veggie oil and water/methanol are not directly related as in if combined, they make a fuel. I converted my truck many years ago to burn veggie oil itself and then later added a water/methanol system instead of an intercooler to keep egt's down.
      I will be covering both set ups in an article and video some day when I have the time.

    How do you like the water/meth and do you notice a difference in your egt’s ?. I was thinking on adding it to my 6.5.

    • @SixFiveTurboGaragecom
      @SixFiveTurboGaragecom  4 года назад +1

      I love it.
      It clearly lowers EGT, but it also does two other things that an intercooler does not do...
      1 - it takes up less space. (and so it's easier to install too)
      2 - (more importantly) it actually adds more power in addition to what you gain from a denser air volume when you run the methanol. And man, it's noticeable.

    Got a 95 GMC SUBURBAN 6.5 TD... I want to kill the engineer that decided a 2 bolt starter was a good idea!! Going to check your website

    • @SixFiveTurboGaragecom
      @SixFiveTurboGaragecom  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for checking out the site Craig!
      Lot's of reasons to kill the engineer for sure. The starter works well enough if it's set up correctly though, mainly the front bracket needs to be installed.

      @@SixFiveTurboGaragecom you know once again chasing some idiot before me. He snapped a tap off way up on that inside bolt and then didn't put that bracket on! Needless to say now I'm a proud owner of 2 6.5's!! Can't decide to just do the swap or go with my top and the newish block. Am watching your videos and having a bourbon and cigar to change my attitude! Definitely will be in touch. Thanks for your help already! C

    So for less compression bigger gaskets?

    • @SixFiveTurboGaragecom
      @SixFiveTurboGaragecom  2 года назад +1

      Yes sir. With thicker gaskets, you are moving the head away from the block more which creates more volume in the cylinder. When calculating compression ratio, a higher cylinder volume number will result in a lower compression.
      Two things on that...
      - You don't have to calculate and know the exact ratio, just know that thicker gaskets = lower compression.
      - Thicker gaskets result in very little change in compression. With the machining of the heads and block to get a good sealing surface, I just wanted to make up some of that but also I just hadn't been able to get the 18:1 pistons I wanted so I wanted to do what I could to lower compression as much as possible

      @@ClayHollidayz88 Awesome! Glad to help. There's a lot more info on the site too, www.65turbogarage.com.
      And yup, that's the idea. These things have so much more compression than the Fords and Cummins, lowering it can really help them last. Just remember that it may result in harder starting in the cold so a manual glow plug setup and Bosch Duraterms or AC Delco 60G's will help that.
