i still find it super bizarre there's a time limit at all, there's gotta be a technical reason to it or something because why would they increase the time to an hour instead of just...removing the time limit?
I can theorize that it's a Game mechanic thing with stages requiring the time limit entity to function properly for multiplayer technical reasons. There's probably code within the player to have it stop and be invincible when there's the timer ends but since there would be none, the player would forever freeze. So in contrast it's easier to just set it to an hour then to change a whole load of code for players to work without a time limit. (This theory is based off my experience with TF2 Hammer, i know it's different engines but mechanics may have similar interactions) Second Theory, Recon uses nintendos servers so a time limit is set to save on bandwith to prevent idle on maps that can hold 8 active players.
I don't think there is a technical limitation. The timer is so long, it won't bother anyone, but I think the real reason is to check the ingame time. Like you wanna see how much time you need from point A to point B, or how long the tower during tower control takes to the other side. With a timer on top you allways have the real ingame timer. If you'd use a timer outside the game, there might be slight inconsitencies to the ingame timer.
And there's 24, one for each map. Then doing it 10 times for a silver badge, and 50 times gives a gold version of the badge. 1200 hours for the full set will put it about in line for how long they expect everyone to play tableturf or get the gold salmon run king badges.
I'm sure the reason time still there so the game would not have to load up the map for too long and it would maybe depleting the energy/battery or save up some space for games performance from loading one things up for too long, would also one way to boot people from afk in recon anywwy

recon battles multiplayer are an hour long. me and my 2 friends, at about midnight, stayed up for a WHOLE HOUR in a recon match doing absolutely nothing. one of them dced 20 minutes in and i felt so bad. and after, we got nothing for our hour of pain

It would be cool if Marigold said something like, “Wow, you sure were out there for awhile!”
And then she sells you on the black market for a pack of cigarettes and a bag of jelly beans.

Nintendo? Poorly implemented mechanics? Perish the thought.

They should've given you a Recon badge that said, congrats, you wasted an hour standing around in recon mode!

Even though nothing special happened, you put in the effort to find out and I commend you for that.
Hey if you got time to waste, may as well waste it for the sake of curiosity.
That’s what we call SCIENCE
i was playing recon in a private server and we played until the timer went out haha

Based orange paint
Me and my friends will often get into recon and just goof off for a few hours

Huh…y-you…actually waited through that whole…hour…huh.
Too bad that nothing special happens in terms of Marigold’s dialogue.
I wondered what'd happen too... I didn't but it would be funny to have a vid like this on my Switch
everyone would think im crazy
Everybody's a bit crazy! Going overboard is the issue.
Be as crazy as you want to be as long as it doesn't hurt anybody!
Birb!
0:42 did he say Apex?
Sounds to me like he‘s saying „BEATBOX!“
possible words:
“Beatbex”
“Beatbax”
“Apex”
“Beatkex”
“Beatcax”

Why not try giving that [CC] button a push and rewatch! ;)

so like... why does the timer exist anyways?

It would be fun if it was a timer that goes UP rather than down
What is the point of the first 22 seconds of the video?
