Honestly, I dislike polarizing USA politics but the Republican Party is too geriatric at this point. Everything old Republicans do is questionable, many would still vote against gay marriage.

As a senior, senior citizen I'd like to share a multi-decade experience: My health is, in my opinion and generally my present doc's, spectacular for my age, 84. Never-the-less I have high blood pressure and eye pressure problems. My BP meds really do the job - however I've been taking them for decades and I refer to them as my stay-alive-drugs. Perhaps there is no other choice. NTL (never-the-less), at my senior citizen community drugstore I've always had a co-pay = relatively small and tolerable. But when I was prescribed a glaucoma drug the pharmacy wanted $125 for a 2.5 ml vial UN-handled by my insurance co, so I actually bought the first vial. After several discussions with the eye doc, we chose a similar drug with a $6.25 co-pay. Cool! A year or so later our pharmacy decided to retire and we needed to seek new sources for our pharmaceutical needs. They forwarded our medical needs to CVS which is just about walking distance from our community. My first 2 refills for both prescriptions had no co-pay. So 25 or so years later, I learn that I NEEDED to shop around for a pharmacy! WTF? Is this no longer America. My insurance co. SCAN, never notified me that I might be paying more than I should for my drugs. Until I brought the subject up with my eye doc, no one who participated in my life saving analysis and prescription ever asked or told me that I might pay less elsewhere. Over the decades and recent years I've spent money I should not have. Thankfully not s budget breaking amount. But why did I not have advice from a reliable source as to what the drugs should have cost me.

When I went to school for X-ray tech I externed for a few months at a clinic with half a dozen doctors and about 20 staff. 3 or 4 days a week a drug rep would cater lunch for the office from various higher end restaurant chains. And that's just one of dozens of offices in one city. Imagine the cost of ordering take out for 30 people 4 times a week; multiplied by the number of Doctors offices, and clinics, and hospitals, and nursing homes nationwide.. A good start at doing something about healthcare costs is to eliminate absurdities like this - and $100 aspirin, etc.

I do not think anyone should be allowed to even run for a seat without being capable of proving their intellectual knowledge of how this government works, the Constitution and basic ethics, as it seems that many in Congress today have absolutely none of these skills. If you want to run for congress you need to pass a test - plain and simple. If you cannot pass it and prove your understanding of the reasons for ethical behavior, you should not be allowed to throw your hat in the ring. I think there are people sitting in those seats who would not be able to pass the test that anyone applying for citizenship has to pass. This is absurd.

Let's talk about insulin for a minute, as Rep. Ocasio Cortez said earlier. I am diabetic, and spent a few years of my life living and working in foreign countries. I was still nominally US-based, but spent months at a time overseas.
As such, I purchased the same insulin in Hong Kong, Brazil, Thailand, India, and Malaysia which I purchased in the United States. In those countries, I paid list price by walking into a pharmacy (without needing a prescription or insurance). In the United States, I paid 20% coinsurance. Meaning I paid 20% of the negotiated price through private insurance (which I paid premiums on as well). List price overseas was less overseas, in 2008-2014, than 20% of the negotiated price here. And this was for name-brand product.
Even if we accept that those in wealthier areas pay more to fund development which other areas also benefit from, how can that premium be 4x what is profitable in other areas?
I just write this to put a lived experience to her words. Thank you, Representative.

When I retired I contacted an insurance agent to set up my part D coverage to supplement my Medicare insurance. I was astounded by how inexpensive it was. The monthly premium was the equivalent of my Medicare allotment. This provided me with better insurance coverage and less out of pocket cost than I had at work for less monthly cost. I was paying $295/mo, my share of the $1600/monthly premium the company had to pay for a (more out of pocket cost) policy. This was with the same health insurance company I had at work. I asked why everyone couldn't get this kind of insurance. He said they probably could except for the indurance lobbyists keeping it private insurance.

My brother in law has Parkinson’s and his dr gave him a prescription for a medication to help. When the prescription was ready the pharmacist told him that it was $1400. He didn’t have that kind of money and is doing without. Surprised? I am. He lives in Canada. This should never happen there.

This is true throughout the whole entire healthcare system. I had Blue Cross and Blue Shield received the statement about what they paid my doctor. The doctor charge was $125 dollars. My co-pay was $35. The amount that was paid to the doctor from Blue Cross and Blue Shield was $10, the amount of the doctor received in total was $45 but if I was showing up with cash money to pay my doctor, I’d have to pay the $125. Because the insurance companies would sue the doctor saying that she was fraudulent her pricing or whatever. on the other hand glucose and Blue Shield was charging me $700 a month for their coverage. The amount that they put out that particular visit and for that particular month was $20 the rest was paid for by me.

thanks to the affordable care act I am covered on insulin that as a type 1 diabetic I need to take every 12 hours for the past 50 years and counting. But working in a pharmacy I see the overcharging for type 2 insulin pens is disgustingly high! 1000 is correct. i have also seen jacked up prices on testing strips since the isurances are now supposed to cover them. i used to be able to get 100 test strips for $20 without and rx 25 years later 100 strips cost $189 without a rx.
