Hi I'm Brian with Next Level Homestead. If this is your first time here... welcome! I'm glad you're here! If you're a longtime friend, welcome back!!
For most of my life I was a city boy, gardening in the suburbs. I was the first generation in my family to not grow up on a farm and somehow it was still there inside me. So now my wife Emilie, son Noah and I have moved to a small farm (at least it will be) and we're documenting our journey on this channel. Building gardens and chicken coops, buying a dairy cow and who knows what else lies in store. But we can't wait to take you with us!

We took our 6 month old bunny Bella to the vet to get her nails cut. Turns out that Bella is a Fella 🤣 His name is now Benny lol
❤
LOL
LOL
Too cute! 😊
Lol I found out my bunny was a female instead of a male when she popped out 5 babies
Daisy was walking around the outside of the corral like an indignant teenager. She seemed to say, "MOM, DAD, you let them play in MY ROOM!!!" LOL
Yes 😆
Love the camera shot where you say “now I’m gonna start cleaning out the flower beds.” The flower wreath on the door was perfectly positioned to look like a halo!
I was going to say that too. He will have to let us know if that was on purpose or just a happy coincidence.
😆
Oh golly. With your title I was afraid Bella was dead or killed something. Gave me a heart attack
Ohhh.. sorry
@@littlehomesteadbigdreams ♥️
Me too!! 😮
Me too!!
Sooo relieved!!!
Your Snow White looking thatched roof cottage is adorable.
Thank you
Never seen Daisy so animated !!
So funny, when you’re being stern with Bella you are still kindly stern with “please stop that’, I love it!
Bella thinks Dad is talking to her. Dogs don't understand video cameras. She is just responding to his voice.
Bucket training lambs is so easy and simple. You will find it is the only way to move sheep or lambs without a trained dog. Please don't work so hard you make yourself sick. Self care is the first step to making a homestead that is enjoyable and sustainable. Thanks for all your great videos!
Excellent advice. Emily might have to step in to make sure he doesn't overdo it.
Happy Mother's Day Emilie! Brian, don't kill yourself now with all this work, you don't want to be sick when the film crew arrives. I so loved seeing Bella, Daisy, Ollie and Otis together, so sweet. That pirate look was just too funny. Noah, great job on the castle, very awesome looking. You all have a lovely Sunday together. Take care now.🥰
Thank you 🩷
I LOVE how you show us the background of things - and the failures, boo boos etc... it just helps encourage me when I look at my yard /areas that are not yet developed.
❤
Hey Brian, that area under the cottage will be an attractive rodent habitat once you have it closed up but with some gaps. I know you are planning on spray foam or similar but that is easily bypassed if they have the will (which rats do!) I couldn't tell if you were putting hardware cloth behind but I would recommend it. Even a quarter inch gap a few inches long, (basically a space you can roll/slide a pencil through) can fit a mouse.
That was so funny with the one eyed lamb! What a smart dog Bella is on ginding a way out.
Brian,
Very sorry to hear about your chicken. While I hate any death, the mystery ones are the worst.
“Moovelous” word of the day! ❤
😁
Unsure if Daisy was intrigued or perturbed. 😂
The babies are cute!!! 😍
Bella just being her as usual.
OMG when i saw the title of the video I thought Bella was out for good, thank God she is still there. This video was pure joy and its absolutely wonderful to watch how your homestead is thriving, a real inspiration.
Thank you
All the pack seemed to get along. Bella laying down by Otis and Ollie was cute.
The 3D puzzle was amazing. Interesting what you can get done when you put your electronics aside.
Bella is a beautiful dog. Lucky you.
So nice to see all your animals together! One big family.
My daughter (17)built same hogwarts school-castle! And she loves your videos, Brian. We enjoy watching you transform your homestead and just hear you talking. I find your voice very soothing. You created such special place for yourself and your family. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you so much!
Thx for showing us the messy parts! I do t feel so bad about my messy areas now.
It is lovely to hear Emilie in the video. It brings the video to a whole new level. Love it.
Ha! That shot of you standing in front of your house's front door w the white flower wreath behind your head -
SO FUNNY!! SO GREAT!!
I just loved it!
Thanks for the laugh this morning!!👍
And 5 stars for creativity!
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
And THE PIRATE !!!
Ahrrrr Matey!!
Had me laughing there too!!
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed that!
My thoughts exactly! 🤣
Ha! I had to go back and look. Didn’t even realize that 😆
@@littlehomesteadbigdreams
Very nice little nuggets of fun you had in there!
A agree with the bucket training and one follows the other. Every winter we had a few baby goats and once the snow melted I would train them to follow me across the road to the field to grase. As long as you do it in a relaxed manner, it's easy
Buckets work for cattle/calves as long as they realize good stuff is in that bucket! 😊
Okay, WOW WOW WOW!! what a stunning cottage garden! I loved seeing your wife and son on video, I want to squish up Bella and I LOVE the lambs and Daisy!
Lots of work by all - looking fabulous!
I had so many smiles and laughs with this video ! I loved watching Daisy with the lambs in “her” space 😂. It was so cute having everyone together in the Coral all relaxing.
Great Video!
Happy Mother’s Day to Emilie!
Thank you🩷
Microclover lawn does NOT work in Central Florida . It grows then turns crunchy brown.
Tell Emilie Happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you🩷
Sorry to hear about your chicken! Glad that you are doing another STS class. I know I found the first one very helpful!
Awesome work, Happy Mother's Day Emilie, hope your whole family had a nice day of rest.
Thank you so much!🩷
I like the stepping stone wall at the cottage....Good Job!
Thanks
Mysterious chicken death - could have been undetected egg-binding (or pasty butt if that is visible). Chickens being prey animals hide illness very well, and it usually only becomes visible right near the end, so hard to detect issues in time. For possible egg-binding, you may have found a mass underneath before the vent. I spend more time with my birds, so I tend to pick up behaviour changes to alert me (unfortunately I have a 6yo hen showing signs that her time is probably coming soon, current alpha, so it will be interesting to see the pecking order change).
I too had an unexpected chicken death. It’s sad when you don’t know why. But she got a good burial in the vegetable garden.
Gorgeous rose--perfect for that cottage look!!!
It was nice to see one of those 3D puzzles actually assembled. I’d always wanted to buy one for one of my grandchildren.
I tried the wire mesh under the lawn approach a few years ago. I thought I was outsmarting the gophers. Never thought I'd battle wits with a rodent, but that's the life of a farmer. Turns out the gophers still burrow a lot under the wire and eat the roots of the lawn from just under the mesh. Now I'm left with large swaths of lawn that are browned out and struggling since it's nearly impossible for me to remedy the burrows without cutting out the mesh. Luckily wife is now letting me convert the lawn in to a garden.
Haha! When you were standing in front of your front door, the wreath fit perfectly in the background making it look for an instant like you were wearing one of those fancy British hats!
I saw that too.. lol!
😆
Looking good. I have a suggestion for where you have used spray foam under the eaves. Pick up 1/8 " piece of plywood and that will take whatever shape you'd like. Because rodents can chew through spray foam you may want to do some parging to fill the gaps. Most big box stores sell the premix in bags and you just add water and apply with a trowel.
Omg! That puzzle is amazing! Great job Noah!
Very cool, that's hard for kids to do but a good way for them to see that there 's life outside of electronics. Looks like all the animals are getting along quite well. Nancy from Nebraska
It is amazing gorgeous, ❤So proud of your Son❤
Thank you. Us too 😊
Thank you for doing this video in addition to the one that came out yesterday. Whenever you’ve had a long absence from RUclips I start to worry, so it looks like you’re making up for it. I especially like that you added Noah’s project- it was immensely impressive!!!
It’s wonderful to see Bella, Daisy, and the lambs all getting along so beautifully too. 😊
Suggestion on Daisy's pen gate: Purchase another latch that matches the one already on there. On the opposite side of the current latch, open the gate all the way and attach the gravity latch. This way, you don't have to use a 2 x 4 to hold the door open. You can either chuck the other half of the latch or save it as a replacement, (But you'll never find it 2 years from now, so chuck it). Sorry about the chicken.
That's a great idea!
Happy Mothers day to Emily. 💚💜💚💜💐💐💐💐💐
Thank you 🩷
Happy Mother's Day to Emilie. Hope you are both having a wonderful day ❤
One of my other favorite RUclipsrs was showing his junk corner yesterday. He said, very correctly,, that *every* homesteading RUclipsr has a corner like this, so don't be embarrassed.
Thank you 🩷
I have not gotten around to watching your videos in a little while, so I'm so happy I get to binge watch a few of them all at once! I just adored seeing Ollie, Otis, Daisy and Bella all in the corral at once. They are all just too cute for words. 🥰 The homestead is really coming along, Brian. I'm sure the "moos" and "baas" are music to your ears. Also, I really like the challenge from Noah's school. I wish more children (and even some adults 🤭) would be willing to take on that challenge. Go Noah!
I love your homestead and hearing the animal sounds. What a beautiful and therapeutic place. Keep up the great work
Thank you so much!
That title was anxiety inducing! I was worried something had happened to Bella or the lambs. Sorry about your chicken, hope it wasn't anything contagious. It was great seeing all the animals together, Bella was so gentle with them, and so interested. Looks like they might end up being a happy little family.
Daisy is like…..oh yeah, it’s playtime 🎉
Love the wall under the cottage!
Thank you
Daisy looks like hey that new friend is in my apartment without me! What’s up with that?
7:00 looks like another country 💚
😂😂😂😂😂Otis the pirate!!!!
Bucket works really good for all of the critters you have so use it widely. Just do not try an empty bucket but one time or you will lose their trust that the bucket really has anything in it. They are smart.
Good work with the rose too. I have my roses I love. ramblers and climbers are wonderful and the bush ones have the best smell sometimes.
That puzzle is awesome.
I love to see animals so happy and well taken care of.
Babies are adorable!!! Emily~ HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
Thank you🩷
Oh those lamb 🥰 I wouldn’t get any work done, I’d just be playing with l he animals 😂 Happy Mother’s Day to Emily.
It's a good thing he got all that building done and most of the fencing 😂
Thank you! 🩷
I never thought that using the paving stones like that would look so good. They add old class to the (chicken coop) garden cottage. We are preparing our old house for sale so we can move to a different state and retire. After dogging extending my life from 1 to 3 years, I am now have an open life span given to me with surgery. Which will take up to a year to recover. I get to take your ideas to a different home and plan next year's garden 😊❤ Your videos are so amazing and helpful, thank you ❤❤
Thank you
Emilie, I hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day.
Thank you🩷
I used the bucket training with my two horses when they get out of their space because I fail t to secure their pen gate. I also have an Anatolian Shepherd that is great at helpping me get the horses back where they belong. Happy Mother's Day to your wife today!
Thank you
How beautiful to see all your fur babies together. They are so sweet. Brian if you watch a channel called Regenerative Garden with Bree she has two sheep that she leads around with a flat plate of food that might be your solution.
Pirate comment took me off guard and I laughed so hard!!! Your property is beautiful.
Thank you
Great use for the stepping stones! My Hydrangeas lose their leaves in the winter. Zone 8b I would see what's behinds them, LOL Great progress! Good Job Noah, participating in the challenge and doing something creative instead!
RUclips notifications are really starting to annoy me. I did not get one for this video and several others. Argh.
The cottage garden is looking great! I really need to learn about flowers. I would love to have such a beautiful garden.
You'll be amazed at how easy bucket training is and it will make life so much easier. Just use the corral to get their attention with a bucket of food. Then walk away and set it down. Do that several times and boom they will know you have something yummy to eat.
Great use of the pavers!
Thank you Paulla
So fun to see them all in the pen, the lambs are adorable., the way they stick together. Nona's project is beautiful, good job, you are doing it!!! Very nice job on brick covering up. You deserve a break
Thank you so much!
Happy Mother’s Day Emilie!
Brian, that was a great idea for repurposing the stepping stones! Everything is looking beautiful!
Noah, what a great idea for keeping busy during the no electronics challenge. Hogwarts look amazing!
The sounds of the lambs and Daisy are soul soothing❤
Sending love and hugs to the whole family
❤🤗🐮🐑🐑
Thanks so much!🩷🩷
Great video Brian. Noah and his friend was a big help too. I always enjoy watching all your projects and when you scanned the camera to the one eyed lamb I actually laughed out loud. That looked so funny. Miss Bella was just looking for adventure but glad you were able to secure the fence so hopefully she will stay in.❤️
Bella and the lambs was precious.
Thank you
Happy Mother's day Emily 🎉
Thank you!
The animals are sooo gorgeous 😍 ❤️ living the dream 😊
Happy Mother’s Day to Emilie! 💐
Thank you! 🩷
Love seeing Daisy checking out the lambs in her space. Whaaaat??
Gotta love child labor, too! Way to help out guys!👏👏👍
0:23- I'd take a flexible plastic rectangle, fold it into a cylinder, stick it in the pot, and fill it with dirt until the dirt is above the crimp. I predict monster roots.
Happy Mother’s Day💐
Loved Bella Ollie and Otis and Daisy together❤️
Sorry about the chicken🥲
Lovely Castle Model😊
Just modify the paver to go in sideways to fill gaps😁
Thank you
Great idea for the stepping stones. Looks great. Today is mother's day, happy mother's day to Emilie
Thank you🩷
So fun! Daisy says oh no squatters.
I got tired just watching you work. Everything looks wonderful. Love the fur babies.
Thank you
New subscriber here. I saw your video a few months ago about irrigation. Now I am on a viewing frenzy. I started raised beds last year after a botched knee replacement and I had purchased some frames a couple years prior. I am learning so much. I love being outside in the PNW.
Happy Mother's Day Emilie ❤ Love yall ❤😊
Thank you🩷
Am cracking up at the shot of you standing in front of the door with a wreath on it. I thot you had put on a wig. 😂😂
😆
When I see your little cottage in the back, I’m reminded that you used to work for Disney. I can tell that you’re detail oriented but also an artist.
Thank you
Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Emily! Have the boys spoil ya!
Thank you 🩷
Brian, if you bend the tall tomato plant down and you cover the part of the stem just under the leaves with the soil, it will root and it will prosper again.
I really like what you did with the pavers. Very creative. As for the chicken, it could have been anything from a weasel to a sickness. The lambs are adorable. I never heard of anybody training them to a leash. I think you will find the bucket method works best. Love your channel. I thought I was subscribed, but I found myself unsubscribed for some mysterious reason.
Thankbyou
I bucket trained my livestock & it’s the easiest way for sure! I used what we called, sweet feed, it was oats, barley (may have had corn but I don’t remember), and molasses. You’ll just have to worry about not getting run over when the bucket comes out! 😆
Mooovellous! 😅 all your animals are so cute. Loved that little happy jump. Happy Mother's Day. I also has flowers that went to mildew last year so being careful to thin them out where they come up. At my age and growing frailty in leaning towards very low maintenance gardening for the future. What an amazing puzzle. Is it wood or just strong paper? My husband and I did a wood clock puzzle during shut down. Loved it! But I'm glad it was sturdy because it would've been ruined by us if not. Hope he enjoys his project. What a difference your little wall made!
Thank you!
I used Bandaging gauze and tape once to save a plant like that. IT worked.
Still looking for a review of the garden boxes that hook together, sorry if I missed it
Oh gosh I was eating breakfast, and giggled when I saw the pirate!
Good luck to Noah on the no electronics challenge! Sorry about the loss of your chicken!
Thank you
Awww. Super cute video. Lots of work for you though. Happy Mother’s Day to Emilie. She has lots of new cute fur babies to love, too ❤. So nice!
I lost a hen to a rat snake once. My rooster then fought him off. Amazing animals. My rooster was a gorgeous silver laced Wyandotte. Rat snakes will sometime kill a hen trying to guard her eggs, but they are nice to have around cause they live up to their name and keep the rodent population down. Some things are a hard balance 😢
My rooster was named Celeste because he was supposed to be a hen, but I loved him dearly. Such a wonderful animal. He used to feed the hens and watch over them. Muppets neighbors were not happy, though.
I love your videos! Just a thought, i would not put a frisky calf in with small vulnerable critters. Calves can pack a vicious kick. Maybe get another calf for a companion his own size.
Omg in all these years watching u. Seeing Noah, he has grown so much even 4 years ago
He’s growing up fast
Your brick foundation wall looks pretty good.
Thank you
Happy Mothers Day, may your family be Blessed and a abundant bounty in produce. 🌻🙏🏻❤️
Thank you
Glad to see your 4 legged fur babies are all getting along😀👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Aarrgggg matey! Such a cute lamb.
I laughed so hard.
You are doing such great things there Brian.
Happy Mothers Day Emily.
And Noah, such a great job on both that puzzle and doing junk removal! Enjoy the day all of you.
Thank you
Brian, you are such a hard working guy, was happy to see you having the boys move all that stuff. I know you are on a deadline for the shoot, but don't overdo it. Love that you have the cottage and garden there, it's nice to see such uniqueness and beauty on a homesteading vlog. The animals are beyond cute - I want a pirate sheep! Noah's puzzle is amazing - good for him undertaking such a project. And last, but not least, Happy Mother's Day to Emily.
Thank you 🩷
