Back in the 70's DR was a beautiful place to go to, people were so nice and us as kids were always invited to dinners. My step mom's mon lived there and owned a house in the capital right next to a very old church. In fact we were only a short walking distance from el malecon and where Columbus had one of his houses right at the bank of the water. One thing that use to scare the crap out of me and my brother was a spiral staircase that was always locked but it had a glass window that you can see thru, the stairs seemed like it never ended. I just kept going spiraling down. Me and my brother had lots of friends there, i'll never forget one day we knew nothing about it but there is a day called el dia de el diablo. It's sort of there version of Halloween but worse. You would literally get beat down by a pig skin balloon that was tied with string to a stick that the user held and it had rice in it so every time that would beat you with it, it would make a certain sound. Not sure if they have that there anymore. My moms mom lived to 112 years and my mom who moved back there is nearing 100. We also use to visit el campo and we have been threw those curfews but i think is was different back in the 70's. If you were caught out passed it, there was almost no excuse why you should have been out. Man the girls there were smokin, just wish when i went there i was a little bit older to understand show and tell lol. My 2 favorite fruits there, limonsios - quenepas? spelling? and their mango's, you could get them right off the tree's. I heard a lot has changed there now, if you have than american look, your not well liked anymore versus back in the 70's. The culture there that use to be is no longer, most of the youth is now very gangbangish. I will tell you that back in the 70's, you met some really down to earth good people and their families too. My older brother moved back there and now lives in el campo with my older step brother, i was advised not to even bother visiting there because so much has changed. One beach to visit was Boca Chica, man i never seen so crystal clear water on a beach before and the girls. OMG!!.

We were warned to put on 2 shirts and that's all that was told to us. One thing i do miss there is the food, it is to die for.
