    About the pen, it's refreshing to hear someone have so little to complain about the Plaisir. I was on the fence for quite some time, as others have branded it as a Preppy with a fancy barrel and cap. I ordered it after watching this review. It's on the way, very excited to finally get to use it.
    About the song, one of my favorite Beatles songs, and in the opinion of many, one of the best tracks of Abbey Road, the other being that other George song, Something. And, Ringo is really the one who made the Beatles sound unique, he is inimitable.

      OK, mine finally arrived today. It's as described, nice texture, slick but not slippery, writes reliably, feels light for a metal barrelled and capped FP.
      I now have 3 of this current design of swappable section Platinums, a Preppy, a Small Meteor, a "China market exclusive" that is faceted and looks like Platinum's response to the Pilot Kakuno, including having shooting stars on the nib vs. the Kakuno's smiley face, and 3rd, the Plaisir. Although they share the same guts, I can still feel, maybe psychologically, that the Small Meteor and Plaisir write slightly smoother, even with identical nib sizes and all using cartridge ink, than the Preppy.
      One thing I noted about these pens is that they make sounds. I can hear the steel ball in the cartridge, as well as the slip and seal mechanism.

    Thanks Doug for the suggestion about the Preppy swap. Now I know that I can fill a couple Preppies, and use them as oversized ink cartridges, while using the Plaisir as my travel pen. If I use up the ink, I will simply do a swap for a full refill. Doubt I will use all three in a single trip. BTW I put in a O-ring for the Plaisir, as the threads is metal on plastic, most likely section of the pen to fail.

    This was an interesting look back for me. I have all 3 models of which the Plaisir is a beautiful Teal. One issue I ran into early on was while capping the pen I managed to catch the inner cap in between the nib and the black plastic feed which snapped it at its narrowest point. I could have just replaced the whole section with one from a Preppy, but since I already had 3 I just removed the nib & feed from the collector, and swapped them.

    Hi Doug,
    You have taken two of my favourite things and made a wonderful video.
    I liked your cover of that classic Beatles song and you reviewed my favourite fountain pen - the Platinum Plaisir.
    An inexpensive fountain pen that writes better than some more expensive fountain pens.
    I prefer the either the extra fine or fine nibs, but the medium will do.
    My problem is that the quality of paper in the workplace isn't that good, but the finer Platinum nibs are best suited for cheaper
    paper.
    Totally concur with you on the refilling cartridges with a syringe and swappable grip sections from Preppys [& Prefounte].
    I tried the Preppy first & went to the Plaisir [Prefountes weren't around then].
    I wished I had found the Platinum Preppy & Plaisir earlier, instead of getting Lamys, Pilot Metropolitan & Parker fountain pens.
    I also like how you edited in those classic film & TV clips.
    I am now going to watch your Pilot Explorer YT video.
    Keep up the great work & spread the word of how wonderful fountain pens are.

    Hi Dough. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad!).
    THANK YOU for the 3 videos on the Platinums (Preppy, Prefounte and Plaisir). I was in search for more FPs, mainly for drawing (but versatile enough for writing too) and at an economic price... one of my main issues was avoiding ink drying (I need FPs inked and ready to use whenever I want with multiple inks - non-soluble and soluble). Second... I am looking for a super Fine nib (EF) - I have a LAMY but with the converter it's over 35€ in Spain. Third... at the cheapest price possible (since I need at least 3). And 4th... if it can be converted into an Eyedropper for ink capacity better.
    I Have 1 question, though, after watching your 3 Platinum series... I understand that the Plaisir can't be turned into an Eyedropper (correct?), but the Preppy and Prefonte can be converted.
    My question is... can you tell me which O-ring is needed for each (Preppy and Prefonte) or is it the same? And which silicon based oil should I use for sealing? (I need to find it here in Spain).
    Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks a lot for everything you do to us lovers if Fountain Pens!
    Cheers from Sunny Spain!

    Doug, could you please review platinum procyon and compare the nib, writing, build, weight and comfort with this pen and platinum 3776?
    Also could you let me know if platinum cool/balance has slip and seal? Are those bodies interchangeable with platinum plaisir too? I'm in search of an affordable springy nib that writes smoothly with minimum feedback.

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  2 года назад +2

      As far as I can tell, the Cool/Balance doesn't have the same slip 'n seal cap liner or nib/feed of the Preppy, Prefounte, Plaisir line of pens. I don't have a Procyon to review unfortunately.

    Could anyone please help me? I recently bought a platinum plaisir hearing all the good words. I ordered a red ink, but they sent black and I didn't check before installing the cartridge. When I did realize it while writing, I uninstalled the cartridge, washed and dried the writing section and installed the cartridge with my red ink (waterman audacious red). I don't know why it just doesn't write the same anymore as it did with it's original ink. The ink is much darker but it's writing a very washed out shade of the ink, sometimes skipping lines. What can I do here?

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  2 года назад +2

      Rinse the pen again with water with a drop or two of dish soap in it. Pull the nib and feed if you can - they should pop out easily. Then thoroughly rinse the pen and thoroughly dry the pen parts wrapped in a paper towel over night. That will make sure you are writing with nothing but the new ink. However, different inks behave differently, so it is not unusual to feel a writing difference when changing inks.

    • @Feynman_Fries
      @Feynman_Fries 2 года назад +1

      @@InkquiringMinds I did separate the feed and the nib before washing and dried them overnight. But I guess you have noticed that the feed barrel of plaisir has this compact plastic section inserted in it which stains with ink (that you explained in your review too). I didn't have the confidence to pull it out lest I should damage the pen, and I guess that's where it retained moisture. Do you think the moisture would evaporate/go away over time if I just use it?

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  4 года назад +1

      I think most converters hold less ink than cartridges. I know Pilot cartridges hold a LOT more ink than the Con40 converter. It has to do with how much space the piston mechanism inside the converter takes up.

    I have several Preppies, Prefountes and Plaisirs. Although I usually prefer girthier pens, I keep more than one inked up in my EDC pen case. They take up less space, and I'll take a Platinum steel nib over my 3776 SF any day. They're just great value. I picked up a Plaisir and two Preppy's with different nib sizes after watching your review. The pen looks great, a bit on the light side for my liking but looks great. I picked up a dedicated converter for the Plaisir and inked the pen as I would any other pen only to find the pen is unusable. The nib assembly seems to completely fill up before the ink travels up into the converter reservoir. The flow coming out of my medium nib is unusable, it's like a firehose. I cleaned out the pen twice and repeated the filling process with other inks only to find similar results. My wife bought a fine tipped one and she has the same issues, the pens are unusable as is with the converter. Any ideas on what I may be doing incorrectly?
