or better fire CGI at least lol. doesn't take away from the rest of the show, but you'd think they could shill out some more for a one and done scene with their massive budget.
The only thing I knew about The Witcher was the games. GoT fan here, and I heard people were comparing this to GoT, surely because of the fantasy genre and all. Seriously, the only ones that’s seem to actually compare the two are critics. People who actually watch this appreciate it on its own without comparing it to GoT. A good reason to never pay attention to critics.
erica I love game of thrones and The witcher both but the Witcher really has its own unique vibe to set itself apart from got comparisons and I love that
You can compare them sure, but only to season 1. GoT season 1 was one of the most expensive seasons ever made at the time, but there wasn't huge fighting scenes at all. Witcher has alot of fights with very good CGI as well. I love both, but to compare witcher season 1 with the entire GoT show is just unfair
I love both series and i must say they are pretty similar at some points but told in very different ways. GoT has many more different PoV stories than Witcher but they are all intertwined at some point or another.
People who have to use GoT as their only source of comparison of knowledge of Fantasy are not actual geeks. Don't misunderstand i love GoT. I am simply aware of the vast sources that inspired (DnD, GoT, Witcher, Lotr Etc.) to begin with.
I had no expectations for this show. When I saw the trailers I was only worried it would be too pompous. And it suprised me in a positive way: Henry Cavill is Geralt, he understood the character perfectly. I very much liked Yennefer, I am waiting for the development of Ciri’s storyline. Not to mention, „the White Flame” is just like I imagined him when I read the books, same about Tissaia. Vilgefortz is immaculately handsome as he sholud be. Of course, the show is not what the books are, it can’t be. But I liked the way this universe was presented, even if driads were not green, elves were not beautiful, the golden dragon was nothing like GOT dragons and the authors caused an actual chaos with the story’s timeline.
@@vasilsotirov8706 Exactly! Besides, fully grown dragons didn't appear in GOT until like season 4 or 5, when they had a much bigger budget. The Witcher is still at its first season and the budget was significantly lower than GOT's later seasons, I'm sure that with the success of this season, Netflix will give them a higher budget for the next one and enough time to deliver an amazing second season.
@@pa3330 Isnt it quite fitting for the show/books for the "legendary golden dragon" to be almost disappointing. I'm not saying the dragon was disappointing by the way, just saying i think it fits the mood of the show
I had the same sentiment from the trailer, it was worrisome, but after watching the series it definitely did justice to the books. Henry Cavill is now a great Geralt.
Lauren Schmidt seems really great to me from this interview. I was on her side pretty quick, especially since watching the show I see how nicely they are balancing storytelling, But her epiphany about how to make this season based on Dunkirk's script makes me REALLY like what she's up to here.
The fight scenes from the witcher make game of the thrones ones look like pub fights. I am very pleased how the producers are paying attention to this essential part of the series because it brings good film quality to the small screen. Kudos to everyone in the making of the fight scenes. Keep up the good job guys.
Critic are NOT fans, they suck Witcher is badass! Henry Cavill is doing and has done a job well done portraying Geralt of Rivia. Just finished episode 6 and I'm very impressed. I see people(some people) griping about some of the characters not "fitting the mold" per the game. The people who have never played the game wouldnt know the difference either way but I think the whole cast ,thus far, are doing a phenomenal job
The gamers complaining should take note of the fact that the series is based off the books, not the games. So it's really the games that don't get the characters right.
I don't know where RT gets there Critics from but some are laughable reviews that should be filtered. This show is gold and they would know that if they knew anything about the series.
I LOVE the witcher so much now that im going to go back and watch some walkthroughs of the game AND read the books. All I knew going in was Yennefer Geralt Ciri and Roach. I tried getting into it when the Witcher 3 was popular but I just couldnt. This show however makes me want to learn WAY more about Ciri and Yen.
@Dalle Smalhals Excuse me? Is there something wrong with watching walkthroughs of games that are several years old? Especially when you no longer have the console?
Its crazy that i use to agree with what critics said like 6-7 years ago because they were normally pretty accurate with what they were saying. However, The Witcher has far exceeded my expectations and everything they have said about the series is just bullshite. Its like a opera critic saying the show wasn't loud enough. Dafuq you mean? My ears be blasting blood.
"Henry Cavill On Why He HAD to Play Monster Hunter Geralt." 3 minutes of Cavill talking about sword fighting choreography and 11 minutes of other characters. Your title-making department is as skilled as your rating department, Rotten Tomatoes.
It's the critics that are iffy (increasingly irrelevant as well). The audience score is at 90% - and more reflective of us people in the real world, without agenda and pay masters.
Rown Aerith yh it is but it’s much easier for people with pre knowledge to decipher that from the get go however if they paid attention they would have known
Why is the show rated so low by RT ? According to the audience scores across alot of review websites the audience seemed to really enjoy it, with scores saying that as much of 90% of the viewers enjoyed it. Myself included, it's the best series I have ever watched. Henry was a perfect cast for the role of Geralt aswell. He was amazing and so was the show
Sorry but what kind of people become critics.. they dont even understand simple timelines. They ask questions like: "so theres a difference between sorceress and witches??"
@@eldarion933 That is a genuine criticism and they did make the timelines needlessly confusing. You can figure them out,but they could have improved the cohesion by so much its hard to fault them for criticizing it.
@@niccoloparker3548 Indeed. However, I, for the sake of a different opinion, liked the catharsis brought about the end of the 7th episode and the 8th episode, where the 'past' timeline finally caught up while the scenes with Ciri were presently ongoing throughout 1-8. For someone who had read the books, the basis being The Last Wish for the majority of the 1st season--I tolerated the mixed up timeline. Again, I agree, it was confusing at first, but the catharsis at the end--piecing it all up together--loved it, loved it. +I loved Yennefer of Vengerberg so much so that's the final nail
@@revergiltheramorne3280 honestly most critics got the first 5 episodes out of 8 one month early. They probably didnt like it nor feel like watching it the last 3 episodes. I personally disliked putting yen backstory in season 1. It took stuff away from the ciri and geralt time. It could have been just made two episodes in season 2 where we will have more than 8 episodes anyway
Let us toss a coin to Lauren Schmidt, because without her enthusiasm, tenacity, and connection with Henry the show wouldn't be* as incredible as it is. 💰
The part with Lauren Schmidt makes me feel better about being a new fan of the franchise. I didnt know anything about The Whitcher before and I cant play video games for the life of me. BUT I LOVE THE WHITCHER NOW
He's not only a pretty face. He's so passionate with his career, he's so smart and capable. I really enjoyed the season. He was born to be Geralt de Rivia!
over 20 years ago i got my first "witcher" (wiedzmin - in polish), wasn't sure about Cavill playing this role but now I'm so happy it's him. I can't see anyone else doing it.
All the respect to the casts and the crew behind the scene, but Henry's performance and his passion as a fan of the games and books just gave the show a great advantage in my opinion!
It’s cool seeing Cavil in a new project that he’s amped about. He was a good Kryptonian and this clip announced a second season. Happy for all those involved. Great cast!
I loved how they handled the timelines! The parallel stories and cross cutting between times instead of places was fantastic. And slowly introducing the concept that there are years or decades between the characters' stories was an awesome twist. There were a few hints early on, but the Striga episode really drove it home!
The story telling timelines switch is brilliant! It accomplishes two things imo: - 1st is goes few times over some important characters and events (from different angles of course) so that you remember and understand in depth not just who is who, but also their motivation and see their own character development. Imho that was missing in Game of Thrones for example. In GoT sooo many things happened and characters entered and exited (usually dead) the story that you could hardly keep track of everyone, and eventually you had to discover that someone you watched for couple of minutes two seasons ago is actually important now (probably for couple of minutes again until he/she dies). - 2nd is really gives power to that magical world and especially to that feeling of destiny that the story revolves around (that could otherwise be boring)
Yeah the time switch made perfect sense. For example the law of surprise episode would not have had the same impact without this. Also there were many scenes that drew visual parallels between Geralt and Yen an Ciri in different timelines, to put even more emphasis of them being linked together even if they don't realize it yet (good example being Geralt's fight with the striga while Yennefer got her transformation)
@Hauke Holst The show wasn't just made for witcher fans it was made for the public as much as some might disagree. The writing on this show was awful and belongs to a teen show. that's why it made everyone confused with the timelines
While I dont disagree with your opinion about the time jumps, it would have been better if it was made more clear when in the timeline the jumps were occuring, especially for people only vaguely familiar or not at all with the series.
Never played the games, never read the books. Went into this series on just a recommendation by a friend......The timeline jump(s) were a little confusing at first BUT tied together just as I told myself, wtf is happening? Can't wait for season 2!
@@xxcxpl I definitely plan on getting the books. As much as I appreciated the show itself, I know damned well they are forced to cut corners on more detailed storylines and sub plots due to time constraints.
I feel like she was talking about the bath tub scene as in ohhhh look at him in the bath. Whereas he was talking about the bath scene being iconic in the games
To The Witcher's whole team and Netflix: PLEASE listen to your audience and their comments rather than the critics. What is extremely frustrating is not necessarily that the critics did not like the show. It is that in most cases, by reading their reviews, you can tell they have probably not watched it/given it a chance. It feels like they're just trying to go against the grain, as if liking the show would be too "mainstream" and therefore "diminishing" ... As an example, I see a lot of comparison with GoT in the critics reviews which was a show telling the story of the political agendas of all characters and the political conflicts they have in a world in which magic is also present. Very different from the Witcher in which the fantasy and magic are the core focus of the story. Comparing them is even more irrelevant than comparing Breaking Bad and Narcos. Giving a negative opinion on a show is totally fine, but I expect real professionalism from these critics that are paid for it and when I read "I couldn't go through the first episode OMG terrible wig Henry lol" from such said professionals, I genuinely struggle to see why I would use their inputs on other shows to decide if it's worth watching or not. (PS: Only decent professional review I've found so far was from Erik Kain from Forbes. The rest I've managed to read was total garbage)
This is the best interview about the show! She’s such a great interviewer asking the right questions. I just watched a bunch of awkward ones and the interviewers had no idea of what they were talking about
Every single person in the cast has been so passionate during each interview. You can tell they all really love the story and are ecstatic to be a part of it.
Season 1 is just a introduction and foundation to the series. Of course season 2 should be much better. They don't have to worry about introducing characters anymore, which is all season 1 was about. So, brace yourself.
@Dalle & Mr Bare..ok heheh @Galaxis..Eeeemm i think Season 2 they introduce more character, maybe 2-3 char hehehe @Jebu..Wooaa i never played Gwent, it blind for me :D xiixixxi
Personally I liked the split timelines thing. It was only slightly confusing at first. Once they showed the painting of young Foltest and his sister, and then showed the actual children in the same episode, I understood what was going on.
@@zer0bre But that's not their job, they look at the movies/show and have an opinion on them. If you can't appreciate the show without previous knowledge, the show did something wrong
If you rate a show pretty low because you have an opinion on the story you have no idea about, or the characters or anything, why even bother reviewing it? It's like calling an electrician to build you a rocket. One of the requirements for the job would be: "HAVE YOU EVER BUILT A ROCKET?". Same goes here. When they say that Geralt is a mutant, the first thing that comes to a critics mind is X Men. And they probably kept waiting for him to show his special powers. Which he didn't - per se. There are a lot of things in the show that weren't said. For example: here's Geralt and that's about it. There's no origin story, he's just there. Stuff like that. People nowadays love to be held by hand while the story unfolds, directed even if you will. And it doesn't do that here. What's more, the timelines skip from one to another to the third. A lot of material that would raise an eyebrow of a critic not familiar with the subject. While on the other hand, pretty much everyone that has a console or a PC has tried the game at some point in their life, young or old. In all honesty, I don't see the need for critics at all. They rate movies and shows. And do so pretty poorly. The general sense of audience is more often than not quite a bit different than an opinion of the critic(s). Which brings is to another question, are they, perhaps, paid to give a good/bad review? I mean, we live in a world where everything and everyone can be bought. Could we seriously believe that they could be unbiased towards a movie someone slipped them an envelope to give a good/bad review for? In all seriousness, I doubt it.
@@zer0bre Not really, I haven't played the games or read the books, so I'm viewing the show like a critic would. And honestly, it's not doing a good job it's character definition. I had to look up some more background online and then it made more sense/made me appreciate them more. I don't think the show is that bad, but it is definitely flawed. It does not work that well on it's own, and that's what the critics see. That people like to be directed thing isn't really true, they are tons of critically acclaimed movies with non linear timelines. Finally, it's litterally impossible for a critic to go read the books and play the games and do whatever you have done for each movies when you have to review several movies a week.
I was not into Geralt's casting at first, but after seeing it.... No one would have been better to me. He pulled just enough from the games to make that connection.

"The fights are epic, the love scenes are well executed and the bathtub scene went viral" So this interpretation of "The Witcher" is pretty great, give it at least 80% or more maybe? RT critics: "Well yes, but no - 50% it is" xD
Henry’s performance was epic and this show is fantastic, I’ve read the books and am impressed by how faithful it is to the source material while also aligning wonderfully with the games. The story ties together neatly at the end and the performances were wonderful. Can’t wait for season 2!
The Striga storyline was so important. Geralt saving that little girl is what convinced her father, the king, to join the mages to fight against the Nilfgardean.
I ended up binging all eps last night in an all nighter... this show was really well done, i watched it with my friend who had very little exposure to the Witcher before watching and we both couldn’t stop praising the things the aces. Hats off to all involved with this awesome series!
Now that she mentioned Dunkirk the whole timeline idea became a lot clearer to me! And that she wanted to have Yen and Ciri. Seriously! freeAEgraphics not as many times as he’s had to “reload” his arms
Poor guy lol
@Gore4ever FulciLives. Well earned millions... let's be honest.
I will never take critics ratings seriously from now on, First Joker and now this. What a joke!
@Juggled Lotus Try IMDb! It is mostly fan reviews and I find it to be much more accurate than Rotten Tomatoes :)
They nailed it. Henry was born for this role! The only recommendation: get better CGI for dragons!
or better fire CGI at least lol. doesn't take away from the rest of the show, but you'd think they could shill out some more for a one and done scene with their massive budget.
i think CGI wasn't bad, the design was.
i didn't like the desing of the dragons too haha
austin is people games what’s the budget?
Sura they did say that there are Green, Red and Black ones. Maybe the Red and Black ones would be more realistic
I am simply aware of the vast sources that inspired (DnD, GoT, Witcher, Lotr Etc.)
to begin with.
@@legendaryoutcast4440 i actually think LotR is the true masterpiece of the fantasy genre
Am I the only one who liked how unique the dragons looked? They didn't need to be like GoT.
Vasil Sotirov You are not the only one, but come on: the legendary golden dragon cannot look like a lizard
There is no lesser evil. He really taking his Gerelt role seriously lol.
Rules to live by. If critics like it = It's hot garbage. If the critics hate it = it's worth looking into.
Kruut Von Trendkilla That's so true
That's a pretty silly rule to live by. There's great shows that critics like. You might be over reacting.
That's when critics become Armond White
Simplistic, but that's jarringly becoming more true.
Then again, the critics don't seem to like Rise of the Skywalker. And you know that movie is hot garbage. Lol
His voice is definetely inspired by the video games so maybe after all the Games helped him get the job
From what I've heard, Cavill bvased his looks and voice on the games while storycoems from the novels. a very good combination I'd say.
"Evil is Evil, there is no lesser evil"
I'm looking at you, Rotten Tomatoes
"Evil is Evil" 1:17 the smug look on his face when he says that kills me
Lauren Schmidt seems really great to me from this interview.
The actor who plays yennefer has some crazy social anxiety. Didn't expect that makes her performance more impressive to me
Yup, as someone who suffers from social anxiety, I can see it in her a lot. Makes me like her even more .
Sign of a very sweet, self-protective soul. You can tell that she's an introvert
Critic are NOT fans, they suck
Witcher is badass!
You don't know because you're a redditor fanboy ince.
Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have critics... It's a review-aggregation website that shows the percentage of positive versus negative reviews.
Henry played Witcher 3 TWICE! Let the man inspire you!
This show is amazing and I don't even know the story! Happy I am seeing it for the first time and the cast is perfect!
Lernen.Ohne. Angst.official you should play the games
Loved this show, they did not hold the audiences hand with the storytelling. You could see Cavill's passion for the character in every scene. Respect
"Henry Cavill On Why He HAD to Play Monster Hunter Geralt." 3 minutes of Cavill talking about sword fighting choreography and 11 minutes of other characters. Your title-making department is as skilled as your rating department, Rotten Tomatoes.
Thanks dude, saved me some time lol
Why did you rate this show so low RT? That is just injustice
It's the critics that are iffy (increasingly irrelevant as well). The audience score is at 90% - and more reflective of us people in the real world, without agenda and pay masters.
some of the critics seem to be confused about the timelines, when it's so easy to tell if they actually pay attention to the show.
@@UtaNngkrngDpanKompi those critics really shouldn't be critics if they can't comprehend timelines that are clear to any viewer
@@UtaNngkrngDpanKompi Its honestly so simple youd wouldve have had to fail out of middle school to not get it.
They ask questions like: "so theres a difference between sorceress and witches??"
thats just another example why RT critic scores are bullshit. if you want to know if a movie or show is good, dont look at the opinion of others.
Toss a coin to your showrunner? :)

Massive respect to Cavill for absolutely killing it!!
Thanks God we getting a season 2.
He's not only a pretty face. He's so passionate with his career, he's so smart and capable. I really enjoyed the season. He was born to be Geralt de Rivia!
Im on eps 6 this show is awsome and so is the cast
@Слава Перун and the milfgaard armor...
I love how badly he wanted to play Geralt. That's the kind of passion I love to see in adaptations.
over 20 years ago i got my first "witcher" (wiedzmin - in polish), wasn't sure about Cavill playing this role but now I'm so happy it's him. I can't see anyone else doing it.
All the actors seem very in tune with their characters, awesome.
Calanthe? O_o
Great cast!
Just finished binge watching it! Henry Cavil did an amazing job!
Tissaia de vries is just beautiful.
She’s my favourite! Amazing actress
You should check out Ripper Street she is in that too
I KNOW!

@@QazRiyami ye good acting. My personal take on it: Queen or Ciri > Tessaia > Geralt > Yen > Jaskier
I loved how they handled the timelines! The parallel stories and cross cutting between times instead of places was fantastic. And slowly introducing the concept that there are years or decades between the characters' stories was an awesome twist. There were a few hints early on, but the Striga episode really drove it home!
Henry Cavill was amazing as Geralt. When they announced that Cavill was going to play the role, I wasn't sure he could pull it off. Boy was I wrong.
The story telling timelines switch is brilliant!
It accomplishes two things imo:
- 1st is goes few times over some important characters and events (from different angles of course) so that you remember and understand in depth not just who is who, but also their motivation and see their own character development.
It was the weakest link of the show.
@@GuillRickard I agree, that was the best juxtaposition between Striga and Yennefer's transformation.
Henry Cavill really is the perfect Witcher
Never played the games, never read the books. Went into this series on just a recommendation by a friend......The timeline jump(s) were a little confusing at first BUT tied together just as I told myself, wtf is happening? Can't wait for season 2!
Read the books if u can bro - honestly - well worth it - truth is in the roots
@@xxcxpl I definitely plan on getting the books. As much as I appreciated the show itself, I know damned well they are forced to cut corners on more detailed storylines and sub plots due to time constraints.
Just remember the witcher is overrated
I feel like she was talking about the bath tub scene as in ohhhh look at him in the bath. Whereas he was talking about the bath scene being iconic in the games
It is interviews like this that make me love Cavill and his portrayal of Geralt.
I just watched a bunch of awkward ones and the interviewers had no idea of what they were talking about
There's so many talented actors on this show and Henry really takes over who I imagine as Geralt, but the writing is just so slick too
Every single person in the cast has been so passionate during each interview. You can tell they all really love the story and are ecstatic to be a part of it.
"Evil is Evil, if i had to choose between one evil and another, then i prefer not to choose at all"
Am sure he was gonna say these lines 😂😏♥️
The timeline thing on the first season made a big impact on the scene that reveals everything
Henry’s passion for the franchise really shows in the Netflix series because he is objectively the best part of the show
The Geralt v Renfri fight was the best sword fight in cinema I've seen in years . Kudos to the entire team.
I really want to watch the audition tape of Henry Cavill playing Geralt
I hope it was the Djinn scene where he said "I CAN'T F**KING SLEEP!!!"
It's really cool hearing Lauren Schmidt talk about the show.
Thanks for interviewing her as well.
What a Series..
I'm satisfied with Season 1, i played Witcher 1 2 3 hehhe..hopes Season 2 is more epic :D
@Delle Smalhals yeah true, it would be much more epic to see Geralt slay some shrubbery. Who needs badass Monster fights.
Season 1 is just a introduction and foundation to the series. Of course season 2 should be much better. They don't have to worry about introducing characters anymore, which is all season 1 was about. So, brace yourself.
Season 2 needs at least one episode where ciri is in danger but geralt goes to play gwent for hours.
@Dalle & Mr Bare..ok heheh
@Galaxis..Eeeemm i think Season 2 they introduce more character, maybe 2-3 char hehehe
@Jebu..Wooaa i never played Gwent, it blind for me :D xiixixxi
Personally I liked the split timelines thing. It was only slightly confusing at first. Once they showed the painting of young Foltest and his sister, and then showed the actual children in the same episode, I understood what was going on.
Critics are the laughting stock at this point. Their score should rather be called a woke meter.
Never read a book or played a game most probably. That's their reason.
@@Kousseau so you basically just jumped on the show because of the hype?

I was not into Geralt's casting at first, but after seeing it.... No one would have been better to me. He pulled just enough from the games to make that connection.
“Geralt is like pest control” thats one way to put that haha
Had my misgivings beforehand but Cavill really nailed playing Geralt. Great show.
Can't wait for season 2!! Henry is such an amazing person and actor. He was born to be Geralt that for sure!!! His passion and devotion for the character you could see it in every scene...i loved it!
The second Cavill, as Geralt, said, "But, these views", in that sarcastic deadpan voice, I was like: Yep, that's a man who knows Geralt of Rivia. Born to play, as they say.

Henry’s performance was epic and this show is fantastic, I’ve read the books and am impressed by how faithful it is to the source material while also aligning wonderfully with the games. The story ties together neatly at the end and the performances were wonderful. Can’t wait for season 2!
Dwayne the rock Johnson as letho from the Witcher 2 would be so badass
The Striga storyline was so important. Geralt saving that little girl is what convinced her father, the king, to join the mages to fight against the Nilfgardean.
he's so perfect as Geralt. My only complaint with the show is it spends a lot of time on other characters, and not enough on him
That cursed girl episode was one of my favourites. It was insane to see that story brought to life.

I ended up binging all eps last night in an all nighter... this show was really well done, i watched it with my friend who had very little exposure to the Witcher before watching and we both couldn’t stop praising the things the aces. Hats off to all involved with this awesome series!
Now I know why this show is so good. Cavill is Personally invested in it! HUZZAH! what a great show! 10/10 would watch again!
Now that she mentioned Dunkirk the whole timeline idea became a lot clearer to me! And that she wanted to have Yen and Ciri. Seriously! It was a bit confusing at the beginning, but ultimately I had fun deciphering the timeline while watching the series. Wish only it was 2 episodes longer to elaborate more on all the characters and their relations.
I hope Geralt saying "I CAN'T F**KING SLEEP!!!" Becomes a meme...
