The lyrics are actually about the girl asking the teacher why he can't teach her about those other topics that he says are "wrong". And how she wants to live this rebel love, and stuff like that.

I like the lyrics, "Is it a crime if I confess that I love you?"
Romance between a teacher and a student is against morals, but it can happen on rare occasions.

this song is one of my favorite.. all perfect.. music, lyrics, dance..
just check the lyric translation, this song is about a girl who is conflicted if she should confess her feeling to her teacher or not. on one side, there is social norm/moral. on other side, there is her strong feeling toward her teacher.

The meaning of Koi Geba (Love Rebel) is tricky. Some of the lyrics and the images of the video describe an unequal power dynamic in a secret and inappropriate relationship between a student and a teacher and the student's feelings and confusion. AG once again tackle a difficult subject.

Glad you keep trying AG. The first video you saw, Otona Blue, was not their best. If that was my first exposure, I would have never become a fan. Not to say Otona Blue isn't a great song, it's just that particular video that didn't really give you what AG are all about. Also AG sold out 2 months ago. I really think they should have added more dates or set up larger venues.
Koi Geba is one of their darker videos. Though if you want a palate cleanser, mayoeba toutoshi is an upbeat video about friendship through thick and thin.

I think AG's musical theme is 'youth', but with this song, AG is boldly trying to express its shadow side. The song is about a forbidden or unforgivable love between a male teacher and a girl student sung from the girl's point of view.
I am just a Japanese with no experiences of living outside of Japan, but what amazes me about the reactions to this song from the reactors outside Japan, is that many viewers comment on how unthinkable it is for a teacher and a student to fall in love, or that it is a sexual crime.
I really think that these are exactly the cultural differences between Japan and other countries. Japan is also sensitive to sexual crimes, but on the other hand, there might be some kind of a tendency to be tolerant of romantic relationships between men and women even though that is a teacher and a student historically. I guess that foreign countries are more strict about sex crimes than Japan. However, it is probably a reflection of the intensity of sex crimes in other countries.
However I think that at least as far as artist representation is concerned, without the sensitivity to be flexible about these things, it would be difficult to understand music and various other arts, or to create them yourself.
Even this song by no means approving such a love, and although the love never implies a bright future, I think it expresses something like that we sometimes deviate from the norms of society, or sometimes dare to choose a thorny path. That is art, I guess...

I think I read somewhere that it was about how teachers tend to abuse students in inappropriate ways, and gaslight them into making them be a bad person if they speak about the relationship, like it's their fault. And that AG are dancing and singing the emotions of the abused student, which is why no one seems to notice them in the video.

@@roberthradek7100 Hmmm, but thanks for the information. Maybe I'm old-fashioned in my sensibilities..., but I think it has always been a classic pattern in Japanese TV youth dramas that female students long for a cool teacher. Of course, from there onwards, it doesn't become a harsh, or nasty expression, but I look at this aspect of the song with such nostalgia, you know... Even 'The Police' sang about it in 'Don't Stand So Close to Me', didn't it?...

@@minamihideki7123 You do what you do. Yes, there have been a few songs about teacher love, even Van Halen did "Hot for Teacher". Though the student in the video did look a bit distressed, IMHO.

The reaction of people believing it to be a sexual crime because it, objectively, is and that such a power dynamic where a teacher dates a student is inherently skewed to the ADULT and is an insanely toxic situation for a child (because yes that is what a teenager is). Grooming is not another path for romance or a 'taboo' romance its abuse, which is exactly what they wanted to highlight in their music and especially music video.
