@@shadowpowahful It plays at a pivotal moment in the anime that gives it added weight to scene. Also the ep cover changes at certain point that conveys a shift in the story.

@@MoonspiderHugs Galaxy the company who make this have to sell out the license before they actually broke and all thanks to the crazy genius Hideaki always over budget on everything.
The license was originally held by ADV Films, but they're mostly defunct now and had to sell off most of their licenses. For a while, the license was technically in the hands of Aesir Holdings, which is a subsidiary of Section23 Films, the same company that Sentai Filmworks is part of, but because the series was so old by that point, it wasn't work renewing the license since it probably wouldn't sell as well as a seasonal anime with a lot of current discussion happening around it.

Just finished watching this anime and man was it good. This anime was definitely ahead of its time. Even now i don't think many will be able to comprehend all of it. I can see why people are saying to brace yourself for existential crisis, but honestly that's only if you haven't expanded your mind or are have it open.
So the Plantium DVD Edition is still the best version to get..

@@EpicMinecraftFail I think EVA is just as relatable as Bojack. Sure, you're not piloting a giant mech in real life, but you do absurd things you hate just to get the approval of your father, struggle with your purpose, etc. The way Shinji screams in End Of Evangelion when he asks Rei if it's okay for him to exist (Japanese version of course, english brutally messes this scene up) is probably the most emotion packed bit of voice acting I've ever heard. What makes this show more depressing in my eyes is the cinematography, the style of the animation and basically the whole visual aspect of the show. The colors, the enviroments, and the way each shot is placed really convey how depressed and alone many of these characters feel. I think it caters way better to it's depressing themes than Bojack's. I understand that Bojack's visuals serve it's own narrative purpose also, but I don't think it works as well as NGE. That might just be my taste though.

Anything Netflix did with the adaptation of Evangelion was done under the approval/demands of the Japanese creators. Blame Studio Khara if you don't like the changes.

Pretty sure Anno somehow got full rights to the franchise at some point.
Bard from what I understand, Gainax still holds most of the rights for the original series and the End of Evangelion movie. Anno only has full control of the rebuilds with Studio Khara.
Gainax doesn't have the rights to eva, Anno took them when he left and formed studio Khara, also Blu-rays of the orginal series have been out in Japan for years, Lastly the eva franchise is currently worth Billions largely due to pachniko so eva coming to netflix has nothing to due with the finacle state of Gainax.
Maybe that tomato business was not successful for Gainax. Perhaps they should try moving into the watermelon market.
I'm pretty sure Gainax officially doesn't exist anymore, since Anno owns the rights, and most of the remaining staff now work at Trigger.

Edit: Partially I wrote this in reference to the Eva not being robots but clones of Adam but mainly I wrote this because the point of the anime is not to tell a story about giant robots fighting angels to save the world. That’s just there as a way of exploring the true purpose of the series which are character studies about human connection and a warning against escapism
