Great video I didn't know there was anything like this to make your truck a possie Now it's hammertime You remind me so much of my son that passed away your hair looks the same you're both tall it's truly amazing I love watching your videos
I like what youve done. Ive had two mini spools on different cars and now a full spool currently and have driven anywhere without issues. Makes me giggle with screaching tire around drive thru under no load.
I've ran a bunch of mini spools and it's a really good idea to tack the corners of the blocks, especially if it's street driven. Turning and driving on uneven surfaces rounds the corners off and you get a lot of slack then it breaks.
Hey 2020 Dan! Greetings from the future. 😂 I was hunting for something else for my 69 1 ton and stumbled across this gem. Didn’t realize you’d done a series on C10s before! Tell future 2023 (or maybe 24-25 Dan depending when this comment finds you) he should totally get another old pickup into the mix! Whelp, back to the future!
Hey Dan, I live way down in the south and don't have to drive in snow but I can tell you from experience that normal even conservative driving can get tricky on a wet road with a locked differential. It can also be loads of fun. Keep doing what you're doing!
I had to modify the C-clips and the little square blocks as well. They were to wide to fit between the round splined pieces so I had to grind them down On 2 sides
I had a '72 Vega with a built 388 sbc stroker and it had Ford 9 inch rear end with spools, you'll be OK as long as you make wide turns, if you don't then you'll be bouncing all over the place on tight turns, you'll dig it though!
Never knew you had to grind the c-clips and I've looked into mini spools a few times, even bought one for another project that I haven't got to yet. Good to know for when I install one in my project truck next spring.
It did surprise me that the c clip didn't slide in end of axle but no mater its together and now fun times. Get a small amount of wheel hop on hard corners and kind of a learning curve for some when tires break loose on highway. I like it personally and more traction in the snow. You should never look back. Put spare pieces in a gallon zip lock bag and put under seat for next guy. Good gears for mileage. Power braking can cause some issues with trans after a while if that is the only way to break loose as mine is just touch fuel and say goodby to tires on back/LOL good job for a "nubee"
Burn Out Time!!! That would be a replacement axle i'm pretty sure Cleveland Axle the factory building the sub assemblies in the axle plant would have thousands lined up assemble. I think these rear ends were produced there as were many others (correct me if i'm wrong). Can't wait for the burn outs we are all going stir crazy at home........!!!!!!!
Put one in my Chevelle years ago, towards the end of the racecar version/build when I was tired of spending money on it. If I could do it again I'd have spent the money on a posi unit, but what can you do. I wish I'd have saved the spider gears since I'mtrying to make it more of a driver now! Anyways, if you are interested, paint a line along the length of the axles, you can later look at the axles to see if you are twisting them in the process of driving.
Looking at you working under the truck drew my eye to the bed. Use the old gear oil and or motor oil to rub down the plywood to help shed water from it. Just an idea. WAY back, we used to rub down the underside of our fire apparatus with kerosene. Same sort of idea. Just a thought. LAY SOME STRIPES AND KILL THOSE TIRES!!
Hope you have lots of spare axles available ! SNAP ! Also, 3:08 gears !!! holy mother of god you need 4: 11 to 4:88s Nobody uses spools except in straight line drag racing.
Smart idea on adding oil immediately. I’ve wanted to do a lunch box locker in my Jeep, anyone use that style... I won’t be able to do sweet burnouts, but it will help on the trail
@@DDSpeedShop burn outs to the future! Need Doc Brown sitting shotgun lol Good old wpg winters...atleast the streets aren't terrible....sandy as shit tho.
Hey Danny, Fun Fun Fun till daddy takes the spooler away. If you don't like it or get tired of doing burn out (yeah right) you can always go back which is a nice option. This will help you mess with Peg. Good luck with that! Later
The rear end is the only part of my 83 d150 I haven't touched and when you have a big block pushing over 500 horsepower it's embarrassing only one wheel spinning
Thats much better than welded spider gears i know since your going to seller buyimg a series 3 posi unit and3:73 ring and pinion and c clip alimenaters would pretty dang costly but if you dont like tje way ot is you can do it later or someone can. Anyway didnt mean to preach excellent job eh!
Hey Dan. You really make me jealous. You are so not afraid to do shit. I am so afraid to screw up so my build is going really slow. I would really like if you could follow me on my build and help me out. I want my truck on the road this summer and I really don't know what I am doing, but I am willing to learn. You are NOT an idiot for putting a spool in your street truck. You will burn it up at the GREEN light. Thanks for sharing.👍👍🍁
Tell me I'm an idiot for putting a spool in a street truck haha
Should be fun on ice!
We run them in our race car work just fine. However not a daily street driver lol.
I'm with you Dan!!! I would do it too!!! All tires must die!!!!!
You’ll need it driving in snow if it can’t even pull up the driveway.
I'm an idiot for putting a spool in a street truck.
I learned a bunch in this video, was never clear on the way a spool worked...Thx!.....Now she’ll wear both tires evenly!
sweet! glad to help man
Great video I didn't know there was anything like this to make your truck a possie Now it's hammertime You remind me so much of my son that passed away your hair looks the same you're both tall it's truly amazing I love watching your videos
sorry to hear that my friend. But glad you enjoy the videos
I like what youve done. Ive had two mini spools on different cars and now a full spool currently and have driven anywhere without issues. Makes me giggle with screaching tire around drive thru under no load.
haha
Wow, that’s actually easier to install than I thought. Thanks!
couple of spyder lockers next? haha
Its almost too easy haha I can't afford a locker carrier so im going the broke man route and getting a spool
It'll be fine i drove a v6 5 speed s10 with a spool one of most fun trucks ever
Hell yes that rocks. You ain't carrying fire wood or scrap iron. Gosh we used to weld the spyders. Well done.
yeah thats how i see it haha
I've ran a bunch of mini spools and it's a really good idea to tack the corners of the blocks, especially if it's street driven. Turning and driving on uneven surfaces rounds the corners off and you get a lot of slack then it breaks.
good to know. thanks buddy
Had welded diffs in my 510's for years. Used to daily drive them, you wont go back. Rad job on the paint fyi!

oya i hear ya my friend haha thanks for watching
I’ve never done either. I have welded a couple. And done a few positive units. A spool looks like good cheap fun.
super cheap haha right up my alley

I had a mini spool in a 10 bolt in a Malibu I had years ago, made that car super fun with what little power it had. 😄👍🏻
gutless cars are always the best haha
Absolutely, I think I’ve had more fun beating on the gutless cars I’ve had than the 11 second Nova I have. 😄
Great work again. You're always an inspiration. That Exxon Valdez spill I've seen in last couple of videos makes my OCD go off the scale. 🤪
haha i have fixed it though.....
Sam Denluck I’ll be the first to admit I’m a slob when I work on stuff but big oil spills Gots ta go!!
Love how you just go for it and do it! Thats a cheap easy way to do burnouts!!!
haha is there any other way>

The good part about this is you can always put the spider gears back in if you want and that's a really nice rearend to be welding on!
yup, i dunno if ill like street driving with a spool or not haha
Thanks for the video look forward all the time makes my day
thanks so much buddy!
For a minute I thought I missed this video.Well done Dan.
yeah i forgot to upload it
Hey you re primed your door, cool!
haha i like to re-do work every now and again
Nice! I'm planning on doing a mini spool in my 66 as a temporary solution to the "one wheel peel" While I build the 9"... Great videos!!
Go for it!

I had a welded diff in a street car
Just boot it when you turn corners you go sideways it always fun
Not a idiot my friend.Teacher Dan's "Spool School" now in session . Have fun with while you can!
Great informative video.
Nice video. Wish i seen how you installed the blocks though. How did it hold up over time? Just found your video looking up spools.
Great job!! That was a cool project.
Thank you!
Looks like the pass side shock is shot. Good work. 👍
haha yup
my lunch box locker is very similar. can’t wait to see some real tire smoke 💨
nice!
Where did you get the mini spool at ? I want one for my 70 model.
Yeah, I've never seen one of these, I wonder if it's difficult to order, you know, if you need the often missing aluminum tag...
ordered it off rock auto 90 bucks
Careful with the stock axles they like to break turning corners. Usually you get hardened aftermarket axles with spools.
ill fix it when it breaks haha
so how was it street driving it for a year? about to do it tomorrow on my 5.3 silverado single cab
Hey Dan, what's wrong with a Limited Slip Differential.
nothing at all

yeah a posi would for sure be better but kinda pricey for mehaha
Looks like it works awesome
As always great content that the average Joe can use!!!
Glad you think so!
Awesome vid
1st time I've actually seen a Locker setup. Pretty easy. Instructions should have "C Clip" work to fit. Or kit comes with C Clips already narrowed
yeah sure simple set up. thanks for watching!
Spool is the way to go like u said that way if u want u can always go back to open diff
absolutely!
Tomorrow, tomorrow, there's always tomorrow...
Didn't know I could sing, did ya....
Great job Brother from another Mother. High 5
Much appreciated
❤❤❤ love your videos awesome content😊
Great job and Another great video 👍👍🇨🇱
Thank you! Cheers!
Cool looks easy enough makes me want to do that too my 72 Chevy
yeah went pretty smooth
You make it all look so easy. Your very talented
Thank you! Cheers!

i dont sit still very well.... haha

not a bad idea!
Did you ever figure out what the intermittent miss was? How much was the mini spool?
i did not i ordered a new crank sensor though. the spool was 98 bucks
Hope you have lots of spare axles available ! SNAP ! Also, 3:08 gears !!! holy mother of god you need 4: 11 to 4:88s Nobody uses spools except in straight line drag racing.
Well that saves lots of money. I never seen those before.
yeah not as good as a proper posi unit though
@@DDSpeedShop But your selling so you can let the people who buy it do the posi it they want to. You can play with it for now that is important .
I plan on installing one in by daily driven 83 c10, how’s street ability?

Go for it!
A spool in a street truck time for Boost
I didn't realize a spool went in that easy, but I do know they're not bad to turn with if you just stop the gas.
haha yeah they kill drivability
Nicely done ! Should be fun
haha oya
Last video the door was painted?
time traveller haha
I'm kinda confused Dan. Did you unpaint the door? Or did we just go back in time somehow?
forgot to upload it haha
@@DDSpeedShop LOL!
Did someone do a five lug swap on the truck?
nope 71 and 72 were 5 lug, disc brake
Cant Wait to see it on the road. So need to do a drag race with the 57 :)
haha yeah the weather just isnt cooperating right now
"I'm happy with it" 😊
Did you say dd speed shop
Good teacher!
Link for Spool please? Thanks
Thanks dude
Nice video man 👍✌
Thanks ✌
Nice work Dan! You're gonna have the second burnout video up before Peg even gets his uploaded! Cheers!

i like to fix problems haha
Good show thanks for the video
thanks for watching!

haha i know right?
Fun times! Looks like you need new shocks :-)
haha eventually

haha i know the exact feeling man
@@DDSpeedShop how bad did it really effect your ride on the truck?
The American Racing tire plant is not far from me. Its in Indiana Pennsylvania
nice!
I’ve been playing with the idea of putting a mini spool in my f150, it’s a pavement princess cruiser, haven’t made the jump yet though
yeah im not to sure how im gunna like this
Yep a note on the steering wheel. You can guess the rest .dad whats that funny noise lol (long time ago )
I ran a mini spool on my turbo C10 for years drove it daily in the summer no problems, till I broke an axle and the tire exited stage left in a hurry.
haha thats awesome!
Liked, shared and commented 🍻🤴🏻🗽 13:22
No more 1 tire fire , next burn out ya better autograph it lol . Cheers
haha

Yea, not for me.
I swear I can smell diff fluid while I'm watching this.

That will be great for your burn outs. But not so good going around a turn. Back end will be hopping an a very good chance of braking a axle !!!
