"I could use his help right now"
he never meant it as in helping him with the separatists...Dooku wanted his former padawan to help him save himself, it was always clear, especially in Tales of the Jedi that Qui Gon was Dooku's conscience and that his death was what pushed Dooku to the dark side.

I like that Dooku had already left the Jedi, but he was still allowed to visit the temple and was basically treated with so much respect whenever he did so. Qui-Gon jinn is basically Dooku’s Son when he died at the hands of Darth Maul that was the last straw and he left the Jedi order and never came back and he became a Dark Jedi but with a Jedi’s approach to things. Training under Sidious for 10 years being a pawn of him from the very beginning and commanded the CIS and General Grievous met his Grandson Obi-Wan in Episode 2 and Fought him Multiple times during the 3 year long War and never wanted to Truly kill him. Then in Revenge of the Sith he finally realized that he was just a Pawn in PALPATINE’S grand plan just before he was decapitated by Anakin Skywalker.

Dooku is very similar to that but a bit more extreme. More importantly, Dooku intended on overthrowing Palpatine but he knew he couldn't do it alone and that's where Qui-gon comes in or would have if not for his death. Obi-wan was a fool to reject Dooku without even properly considering his words.
