I also hiked the beach path from Rivercess into Sinoe county and stayed out in the bush in villages along the way. Absolutely Loved my time in that part of the country. Your parents sound like amazing people and I bet many people are very thankful for their work.
@@JoeyBriggs My parents started nursing classes up in the bush for those Liberians that were already at that hospital. My dad, a surgeon, said the man giving anesthesia did it perfectly but couldn't read or write. Amazing experiences. We always gave peace corp free medical care and a place to stay when needed. It's nice to know the friendliness of the people is still there and the civil war didn't ruin them They were most part really good people. I still call Liberia home. My regret is that as a teen ager i didn't think about bringing back items with me and would love to have me some lapas now.. Lol thank you for your work and all you do.

Hello Joey and Momma Briggs. I just want to say thank you for sharing your experience in Liberia. I left Lib about 30 years ago as a young lad. So, am very appreciative of any news or history from Liberia. Thank you immensely for sharing!
Everything said is absolutely true..better process can be experienced in the city. Interior life can be a little difficult. The greatest aspect of the peace is that you visited liberia's interior as a humanitarian..Thank you..
Yes! You are very correct I have had a few comments about this. I am talking for most villages. I visited 11 different counties across Liberia and this was the case in most places. Of course the bigger cities, places like Monrovia, Kakata, Buchanan, Gbarnga are different.
Thank you so much. Never been to Liberia but I work with many Liberian people in the US. Best folks in the world!! It can a struggle to understand Liberian English, but we can do it if try. Nice video Joey, did you learn to speak a little Bassa? I am from Lower Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. You are so right Liberians are the nicest people!
Yes I did! only very basic conversational bassa but enough to impress some on the people in my community haha. I had a few friends living in Buchanan teaching at the schools there
I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jene Wonde, Cape Mount County from 1978-1980. The Coup d' Etat occurred in April 1980. Joey Briggs that’s wonderful, I have been sending money for food and upkeep because of the Coronavirus, I assumed you are back here in the USA because of the pandemic?
Georgia Miller-Kamara yes I did have to return home because of the virus. Now I am just staying safe at home with my family. Hope you are doing well through these times
Hi! Great question I think it kinda depends on the country you're in but I think across the board you can't have visitors in your first 6 months (3 months of training and 3 months at site) Because in this time you're not allowed to do any travel or anything because integrating in you community is top priority. The rest of the time visitors are free to come with prior approval of your supervisors.
Hey Joey ill be coming to Monrovia June 27th 2020. I fly out thanksgiving day. Yes ill be staying in Monrovia at palm springs resort. Im so looking forward to this trip. My first one got canceled. But im ready to get on the plane. I know you will think im joking, ive already got one bag packed lol
You were really living in the village. You do know a lot about the 16 tribes. However; each tribe has it own special dish that is prepare by that tribe. . We Liberian do eat healthy food it depends where you were.
Thanks a million Joey for the video and the love and support of mama LIB 🙌🏽🙌🏽🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🙏🏽🙏🏽😍😍😍FYI your African clothing looks amazing on, you looking like a true African man 😉😉😉
J.B; as we say in Liberia, I thank you plenty yaa. I was a student of the earliest Peace Corps Volunteers. That's long before your days as a volunteer in Liberia. It pitys me when I see Liberia's deplorable conditions today. Had our[Liberian] leadership not taken Liberia off course with the U.S. A, Liberia did be far better off today. How regrettable! I'm very much looking forward; for a Liberian President and Administration that will be pro U.S.A.
I am a proud African Liberian that is disgusted with most European descendants attitude and behavior in the U.S toward liberian and people of African descendants although I was born here I can never claim the United States and I'll be moving back to be with my beautiful liberian people.
I keep telling my people they will be shock to know that they can never fit in if they go outside with our accent of English, it took me years to speak proper English no one could understand when I speak even fellow Africans, congratulations to your mom and your friends we appreciate your help
ford hanson It is definitely interesting that it is very similar but the different accent and phrases makes it almost impossible to understand to an untrained ear. Good for you for putting in the effort my brother. Thank you ❤️🇱🇷
@@perlinpewu9828 it takes time. Being that u already speak English you should be able to pick up the pronunciations fast so that people can understand you. Until you get more acclimated just don't speak too fast to non Liberians. It's a unique accent and most people will not understand it.
@@perlinpewu9828 okay I see. People will understand you better speaking slow. Just work on the American pronunciations and you shouldn't have a problem communicating.
Thanks Oldman, sorry that your mom saw you in that situation which is the reality. I'm a product of the Peace Corps and it has always been like that. Please bear with us and ask your government or other NGOS to help. I'm also happy that you guys have seen the impact of what the white boys have done to Africa.
Gabelyn Nyenp haha I know I felt like I should give examples of a real Liberia speaking instead of my own since it as been many years and I have since lost the accent I used to teach and in my community.
Yes I spent about 2 weeks inn Tanzania and absolutely loved my time there. So much so I put it very high on my list of my favorite travel experiences. Check it out! ruclips.net/video/P8JzL9KUNZc/видео.html
I have always loved the U.S. Peace Corps program in Liberia, because of the positive values they bring through quality education and culture exchange to the ordinary people. Their ability to adapt in a totally different environment is magnificent and admirable. Thanks.
Thanks for your visit and contributions to Liberia. I think it was the first video you talked about the food. Not all Liberians eat lots of pepper. You lived in the countryside and those people are poor and limited to food and housing isn't as good but comfortable for them. If you visited a middle class or rich family than you will know other food and real desserts you wanted. We do have cakes, doughnuts and other desserts. I know you enjoyed my country but you only hung around people that was less fortunate. This is why the peace corps goes to the rural parts of the world to teach them. Please do another visit one day into the city and hang with the middle class or the rich. Yes all the food you talked about you will eat them in a different way and whole different cuisines you never tasted. Elegant homes and beautiful furnitures. You will ride nice cars and enjoy going to see nice schools and churches.

Roland Volawuo thank you I loved my time in your country so much and miss it everyday. I cannot wait until the day this virus is over and I can return.
Mostly in Africa people makes you feel like part of the family.
They definitely do! loved my time in each of the African countries I was able to visit
Hey my Liberian Brother, I haven’t been home for about 3 years how is home ?
Georgia Miller-Kamara home is fine-o. I loved my time in you country ❤️🇱🇷
Joey Briggs I am, other the civil unrest in my city, Minneapolis, I am doing wonderful. Thanks
Is there a certain amount of time guests can stay with you in country? And does Peace Corps have to approve having visitors?
I hope you have an amazing time in this country. Good luck and safe travels!
I found your channel by watching someone else's Liberian experience you commented on
Glad you found it! Hope you enjoyed 🤩
You were really living in the village. You do know a lot about the 16 tribes. However; each tribe has it own special dish that is prepare by that tribe. . We Liberian do eat healthy food it depends where you were.
Really? What are some of the special dishes? I have never heard of this before in any of the counties I visited in Liberia
Hi Joey, I hope you are doing okay. I'm concerned since you left Africa- Liberia, have you gone back for a visit. It has been like over 4 years now
Thanks a million Joey for the video and the love and support of mama LIB 🙌🏽🙌🏽🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🙏🏽🙏🏽😍😍😍FYI your African clothing looks amazing on, you looking like a true African man 😉😉😉
Haha thank you glad you think they look good! I love them!
Thank you! Yes I am always hoping for the continual improvement of Liberia and the best for its people ❤️🇱🇷
Agreed
Thank you ❤️🇱🇷
Ikr I’m from Liberia and new in the USA and it’s so hard for people to understand and it’s embarrassing
@@perlinpewu9828 it takes time. Being that u already speak English you should be able to pick up the pronunciations fast so that people can understand you. Until you get more acclimated just don't speak too fast to non Liberians. It's a unique accent and most people will not understand it.
@@gemjewelle2687 Thank you but I also have a problem with speaking fast I have a speech delay I talk really slow
@@perlinpewu9828 okay I see. People will understand you better speaking slow. Just work on the American pronunciations and you shouldn't have a problem communicating.
Yo I miss Liberia 😭😭🇱🇷💔🇱🇷
Brooo someone get them an online store!! I'd buy legit a couple dozen of those sweet shirts
Like the video ...am from lib.
Respect 👍🏽🇱🇷
Jd Donzo thank you brother ❤️🇱🇷

Overall you are on point, but few correction, water, stove and lappa is what women wear, it's the same cloth you can make what you want.
Is it not called lappa when men where it? I have not heard that before. My community still referred to men wearing the cloth as lappa
So tell me how far you were from Jallah Town?
What’s your Grebo Name 😂😉
Nice video :)
Thank you! Really enjoyed having my mom on the channel haha
Your mom came to visit, where is your dad?
He was working haha couldn't get that time off
GR8 video 🇱🇷🇱🇷
Thank you! ❤️🇱🇷
Thanks Oldman, sorry that your mom saw you in that situation which is the reality. I'm a product of the Peace Corps and it has always been like that. Please bear with us and ask your government or other NGOS to help. I'm also happy that you guys have seen the impact of what the white boys have done to Africa.
Haha Noooo I am very happy my mom got to come and experience Liberia for herself. We both love the country so much ❤️🇱🇷
After being away so long, did you feel like you had to get used to living in the U.S. again? Anything you really miss from your time in Liberia?
Yes I felt it was harder to get used to living in the US again than it was getting used to living in Liberia
Would’ve loved to hear you speak Liberian English
Gabelyn Nyenp haha I know I felt like I should give examples of a real Liberia speaking instead of my own since it as been many years and I have since lost the accent I used to teach and in my community.
😭😢
Maybe one day! 😂
Joey Briggs 🙏🏾🙏🏾 Waiting for it
😁😁😁
Nice video
Thanks 🤩
Welcome to East Africa, a little more developed in most of it's infrastructures like roads, railways, electricity and technology.
Yes I spent about 2 weeks inn Tanzania and absolutely loved my time there. So much so I put it very high on my list of my favorite travel experiences. Check it out! ruclips.net/video/P8JzL9KUNZc/видео.html
🥰🥰🥰
I have always loved the U.S. Peace Corps program in Liberia, because of the positive values they bring through quality education and culture exchange to the ordinary people. Their ability to adapt in a totally different environment is magnificent and admirable. Thanks.
Thank you!
I Love your story Joey and Mama Briggs.
Thank you Fannie!
Who speak mano?🥰♥️
Haha only Bassa for me 😂
