I don't understand why Jon tore the man in the audience a new one, just because the man mentioned Bruce Springsteen. He could have just said, Tom Waits wrote it, without calling the man a moron. As I understand it, Bruce did rewrite a couple of lines, changing "whores on Eighth Avenue" to "the girls out on the avenue" and added the line about the "little Brat"

he is right to be annoyed....if your gonna yell shit out at a bon jovi show at least know what you are talking about.....he gets annoyed b/c too many people think its a bruce song....waits never gets the credit he should get for his song writing

yeah, it was kind of harsh but if someone didn't know who wrote something, I'd be annoyed too. I was not even aware of this song until I heard his cover on RUclips and Jon mentioning that Tom Waits wrote it. Not really familiar with his music but I think I've heard of Bruce's version. I also don't know why I found that funny, "this is what we're teaching you on Storytellers is who wrote these things."

Yes, but this is more the Bruce Springsteen's way to play and sing it than the Tom Waits'.

At least he sings it the way Waits wrote it. Springsteen always Bowdlerises "whores" to "girls" on 8th avenue in the third line
